Indians wrap up regular season with games against Shawe and South Decatur

Milan's girls varsity basketball team picked up their fifth win of the season with a decisive 58-32 victory over conference foe Shawe Monday night at Milan. After defeating the Lady Hilltoppers the Lady Indians looked for their second win of the week in their final regular season game of the year when South Decatur came to Milan on Tuesday night. Unfortunately the Indians weren't able to pull off the victory over South Decatur as they fell 53-45 in a hard fought battle. With the two games the Indians push their record to 5-14 on the season.

Against Shawe the Lady Indians all but put the game away in the first quarter when they scored 19 points while holding Shawe to no points. After the second quarter the Lady Indians had double the points the Lady Hilltoppers had at 30-15.

Milan sealed the deal by outscor
ing the Hilltoppers 28-20 in the second half to get their fifth win of the season.

The Indians shot 35 free-throws in the contest hitting 20 of them. Lacee Alloway led all scorers with 16 points followed by Katie Volz with 13, Megan Lade with 11 and Shayna Gerster with 10.

In their game against the Cougars the Lady Indians kept the game close the entire game but couldn't connect on a three-pointer late in the fourth quarter when they were down by six and South Decatur hit one more lay-up to push their advantage to 8.

Milan trailed after the first quarter but managed to battle back and tie the game up towards the end of the second quarter. The Cougars hit two-free throws at the end of the quarter to regain the lead going into halftime.

The Cougars pushed their advantage to four by the end of the third quarter and held Milan to just 6 points in the fourth to grab the eight point victory.

Just four Indians scored in the contest with Megan Lade leading the way with 17 followed by Shayna Gerster with 12, Katie Volz with 10 and Lacee Alloway with 6.

Milan opens up sectional play against Switzerland County in the bye game, which will be played on Friday night.

Record Breaker

Milan's Katie Volz broke Milan's career steals record with her first steal against Shawe on Monday night. Volz is a four-year varsity starter and broke the old record of 260 steals. Lady Eagles defeat North Decatur 46-38 on the road

After dropping a big loss to Southwestern the Jac-Cen-Del Lady Eagles traveled to Greensburg to take on the North Decatur Lady Chargers. The Eagles redeemed their loss to the Lady Rebels with a 46-38 victory over the Chargers. With the win they push their record to 12-7 on the season with one regular season game left to play.

Neither team shot very well in the contest with the Eagles' defense holding North Decatur to just 25% shooting from the field. JCD connected on 66.7% of their free-throws (12-18) while the Chargers shot just 35.7% from the charity stripe (5-14).

The Eagles jumped out to an early 7 point lead to start the game after they went on a 9-2 run. JCD didn't score again until the Chargers tied the game up at 9 apiece. From their North Decatur
outscored the Eagles 4-2 to take an early two point lead.

In the second quarter Jac-Cen-Del held the Chargers to just 2 points as they built up a four point lead going into halftime.

Janelle Hardesty pushed the Eagles' lead to seven early in the third quarter with a three point field goal, that was the closest the Chargers would get for the rest of the game as the Eagles held on to walk away with the 8 point victory.

Three Eagles finished the game scoring in double-digits with Hardesty leading the way with 13 points followed by Erika Simon with 12 and Emily Einhaus with 11. Hardesty also finished the game with at team high 9 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 blocks.

Jac-Cen-Del will wrap up their regular season tonight (Thurs.) at home against the South Ripley Lady Raiders. That game is scheduled to start at 6:00 pm with the JV playing first.
