Indians grab two straight victories in doubleheader over South Dearborn

The Milan Indians defeated South Dearborn in two straight games of a doubleheader on Saturday at South Dearborn . The Indians defeated the Knights 7-4 in the first game and 11-10 in the second.

Andy McIntosh scattered 5 hits while striking out 6 Knights for his first victory of the year against one loss.

Terrill Ash was the big hitter for the Indians in the first game with a solo home run in the third inning and a 2 out single that drove in 2 runs in the seventh inning.

Derek Pennington had a double and 2 singles with one RBI and Wes Edwards had a double and a single in the win. Other hitters for the Indians were Daniel Fleming, Bob Stanley, Ben Schafer, Andy McIn
tosh and Brandon Stanley.

In the Indians second game victory Brad Becker was the winning pitcher in relief for starting pitcher Wes Edwards. Andy McIntosh got the save when he shut the door on a South Dearborn rally in the seventh inning.

Bob Stanley and Terrill Ash had 2 hits and 2 RBI's each to lead the visitors at the plate. Ben Schafer's 2 RBI double in the Indians' come from behind (8-2) 9 run fifth inning. Daniel Fleming, Wes Edwards, Sean Wegman, Derek Pennington and Brad Becker each had one hit for the Indians in the contest.

Milan's next games are ORVC contest with the first coming at Switzerland County on Wednesday, followed by a home game against Rising Sun on Friday. Both games are scheduled to start at 4:30 pm.

Eagles have busy weekend playing three games in less than 24 hours

Jac-Cen-Del's baseball team had a rough weekend, playing three games in less than 24 hours. First they traveled to Switzerland County to take on the Pacers on Friday afternoon, then followed that with a doubleheader against Oldenburg at home on Saturday.

In their game against the Pacers the Eagles fell 5-4 in seven innings. Chip Schuler crossed home plate on an Adam Peetz hit in the top of the first to give JCD an early 1-0 lead

Switzerland County took over the lead in the second inning when they scored three runs to take a 3-1 lead. They added another run in the third to push their lead to 4-1.

The Eagles cut into the lead in the top of the fourth when Justin Huff and Adam Vollmer scored to make the score 4-3 in favor of Switzerland County. The Pacers also scored in the fourth inning for the final time in the game to make the score 5-3.

Jac-Cen-Del managed to score just one more run in the contest, which came in the fifth inning, but the Pacers would prove to be too much as they held off JCD to get the 5-4 win.

Bryan Schwanholt was the losing pitcher in the contest, pitching 3 innings and giving up 5 runs on 3 hits. He had 3 strike outs and walked 8 batters. Adam Peetz came in to close the game pitching 3 innings and giving up no runs on just 2 hits, striking out 5 batters and
walking one.

Schwanholt finished the game batting 2 for 4 with a double and a run scored. Justin Huff went 2 for 4 with one RBI and a run scored and Peetz went 2 for 4 with an RBI.

In their first game against Oldenburg the Eagles pummeled the Twisters by a score of 18-2 in just five innings.

The Twisters scored their two runs in the top of the first inning, but unfortunately that was all they would score. The Eagles quickly tied the game when they came to bat in the bottom of the first with their first two batters, Kyle Horan and Chip Schuler, scoring.

From that point the Eagles were in complete control. They scored five runs in the second inning, seven in the third and four in the fourth to beat Oldenburg 18-2.

Tyler Bradshaw was the winning pitcher, pitching 4 innings and giving up just 2 runs on 2 hits, striking out 3 batters and walking 3. Adam Vollmer came in to pitch the final inning, giving up no runs on no hits, striking out one batter and walking one.

Chip Schuler finished the game batting 4 for 4 with 2 doubles, 3 RBI's and 4 runs scored. Tyler Bradshaw went 2 for 3 with a double, an RBI and 2 runs scored.

In the second game of the doubleheader the Eagles fell to Oldenburg 15-14. The Eagles got off to a slow start falling behind 4-0 before putting any runs on the scoreboard.

JCD finally got on the board in
the third inning when they scored 2 runs with Kyle Horan and Daniel Leonetti scoring the runs,.

Oldenburg scored 4 more in the fourth to push their lead to 8-2. The Eagles cut into the lead when they batted in the fourth adding one more run to their total. Both teams scored in the sixth and the Twisters scored five more in the seventh.

When JCD came to bat in the bottom of the seventh inning the Twisters were leading 15-5. The Eagles scored 9 runs in the inning, one shy of forcing extra innings, as they fell to the Twisters 15-14.

Justin Huff was the losing pitcher in the contest, pitching 3 1/3 innings and giving up 5 runs on 4 hits, striking out 3 batters and walking one. Adam Vollmer came in to pitch next, going 1/3 inning and giving up 4 runs on 3 hits, striking out none and walking none. Brandon Gehl came in to pitch next, going 2 1/3 innings, giving up 2 runs on 2 hits, striking out 2 and walking none. Tucker Brown came in to close the game, pitching the final inning, giving up 5 runs on 2 hits, striking out 2 and walking none.

Adam Peetz finished the game batting 3 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored. Justin Huff went 2 for 4 with a double, an RBI and 2 runs scored and Tyler Bradshaw went 3 for 4 with a double an RBI and 3 runs scored.

The Eagles' next game is Wednesday night at home against South Ripley. That game is scheduled to start at 4:30 pm.
