Jac-Cen-Del's baseball
team had a rough weekend, playing
three games in less than 24 hours.
First they traveled to Switzerland
County to take on the Pacers on
Friday afternoon, then followed
that with a doubleheader against
Oldenburg at home on Saturday.
In their game against the Pacers
the Eagles fell 5-4 in seven innings.
Chip Schuler crossed home plate
on an Adam Peetz hit in the top
of the first to give JCD an early
1-0 lead
Switzerland County took over the
lead in the second inning when
they scored three runs to take
a 3-1 lead. They added another
run in the third to push their
lead to 4-1.
The Eagles cut into the lead in
the top of the fourth when Justin
Huff and Adam Vollmer scored to
make the score 4-3 in favor of
Switzerland County. The Pacers
also scored in the fourth inning
for the final time in the game
to make the score 5-3.
Jac-Cen-Del managed to score just
one more run in the contest, which
came in the fifth inning, but the
Pacers would prove to be too much
as they held off JCD to get the
5-4 win.
Bryan Schwanholt was the losing
pitcher in the contest, pitching
3 innings and giving up 5 runs
on 3 hits. He had 3 strike outs
and walked 8 batters. Adam Peetz
came in to close the game pitching
3 innings and giving up no runs
on just 2 hits, striking out 5
batters and
walking one.
Schwanholt finished the game batting
2 for 4 with a double and a run
scored. Justin Huff went 2 for
4 with one RBI and a run scored
and Peetz went 2 for 4 with an
RBI.
In their first game against Oldenburg
the Eagles pummeled the Twisters
by a score of 18-2 in just five
innings.
The Twisters scored their two
runs in the top of the first inning,
but unfortunately that was all
they would score. The Eagles quickly
tied the game when they came to
bat in the bottom of the first
with their first two batters, Kyle
Horan and Chip Schuler, scoring.
From that point the Eagles were
in complete control. They scored
five runs in the second inning,
seven in the third and four in
the fourth to beat Oldenburg 18-2.
Tyler Bradshaw was the winning
pitcher, pitching 4 innings and
giving up just 2 runs on 2 hits,
striking out 3 batters and walking
3. Adam Vollmer came in to pitch
the final inning, giving up no
runs on no hits, striking out one
batter and walking one.
Chip Schuler finished the game
batting 4 for 4 with 2 doubles,
3 RBI's and 4 runs scored. Tyler
Bradshaw went 2 for 3 with a double,
an RBI and 2 runs scored.
In the second game of the doubleheader
the Eagles fell to Oldenburg 15-14.
The Eagles got off to a slow start
falling behind 4-0 before putting
any runs on the scoreboard.
JCD finally got on the board in
the third inning when they scored 2 runs with Kyle Horan and Daniel Leonetti
scoring the runs,.
Oldenburg scored 4 more in the
fourth to push their lead to 8-2.
The Eagles cut into the lead when
they batted in the fourth adding
one more run to their total. Both
teams scored in the sixth and the
Twisters scored five more in the
seventh.
When JCD came to bat in the bottom
of the seventh inning the Twisters
were leading 15-5. The Eagles scored
9 runs in the inning, one shy of
forcing extra innings, as they
fell to the Twisters 15-14.
Justin Huff was the losing pitcher
in the contest, pitching 3 1/3
innings and giving up 5 runs on
4 hits, striking out 3 batters
and walking one. Adam Vollmer came
in to pitch next, going 1/3 inning
and giving up 4 runs on 3 hits,
