Lady Indians bombarded by the Jets

Gary Franklin - Sports Writer

The Milan Varsity and JV Lady Indian Basketball teams opened their season's regular schedule of play against the Lady Jets of Hauser on Thursday evening, November 10, at Hauser High School.

Anxious to get the season in motion, the teams took to the hardwood for pregame warm ups. Following team members, coaches, and game officials introductions, all paid tribute to the flag for the singing of the National Anthem.

The opening tip was controlled by The Lady Jets that quickly led to a Laura Nading basket for a 2-0 Jets lead. The ensuing Lady Indian possession tied the game as Lacee Alloway answered with a field goal. The Jets through the scoring of Katie Finke for 2, Audrey Wilkerson with 2 made free throws, the opening basket by Nading, a bucket by Amie Pope and 1 for 2 on the line left Hauser at the end of 1 quarter with a lead of 11 to 5. Lady Indian scoring was by an early L. Alloway bucket and a basket and foul shot by Megan Lade.

Only seconds following the Milan possession to start the 2nd quarter, the Lady Indians shaved 4 points off the Hauser lead, bringing the score to 11-9. The Lady Jets scored taking the lead spread back to 4 points.

Scoring for the Lady Indians in the 2nd was as follows: Kady Alloway - 8, L. Alloway - 4, Kaity Barton - 2, Kelly Stutler -2, and Cassie Billingsley 3 from a one of two attempts at the line and a basket. Scoring for the Jets were: Nading - 3, Nicole Meyer - 5, Pope - 4, Samantha Deckard - 2, and Michelle Siebert - 4 from a basket and two of three foul shot attempts made. At the half time break the score was Hauser 29 to 24 for Milan.

Third quarter scoring for the Lady Indians came by way of Barton - 2, Stutler - 2, K. Alloway - 2, L. Alloway - 2, and Lade - 4, coming from a basket and two made free throws.

The Jets scoring was from Wilkerson - 4, Nading - 2, Meyer - 2, 1 of two from the line by Deckard and two 3's put in by Pope. The score at the end of three, Hauser 44 - Milan 36.

In the final quarter of the contest Lady Indian Kiley MacVey went to work adding 8 points with a field goal, a 3 point basket and 3 of 5 at the line. K. Alloway added a 3, L. Alloway scored a field goal for 2 and Megan Lade put in a basket for 2 before fouling out of the game with 4:36 remaining.

The fourth quarter scoring by the Lady Jets was from Meyer - 6, Pope - 6, Deckard - 2, Siebert - 3, and Tori Tucker - 2 for a final score of Hauser 63 to Milan 51,

The final score does not do the actual game justice as it had many tight moments. Many times in the contest the Lady Indians climbed the hill so to speak, but just could not quite break the peak.

The Lady Indian Reserve team also dropped their opener to the Jets by a final score of 49-15.

The next scheduled game for the Varsity and Reserve Milan Lady Indians is at Milan against the Jac-Cen-Del Lady Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 19.
