Warren B. (Barney) LaBolt
Warren B. (Barney) LaBolt, 85, of the Hopewell community near
Holton, passed away Monday, November 21, 2005 at the Decatur
Memorial Hospital in Greensburg. He was born in the Hopewell
community on October 3, 1920 the son of James and Hazel Pickett
LaBolt. He was married to Opal Hughes on March 28, 1954 and
she survives.
Other survivors include two daughters, Mona LaBolt of Holton
and Melinda Braley and her husband John of Versailles; grandchildren
Chad and Jennifer Zapfe, Sheena and Spencer Braley; one brother
David LaBolt of Findlay, Ohio and, half-brother Harold Hull.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Marsha, sister Mary Nineff,
and his brothers James LaBolt and Jack LaBolt.
Mr. LaBolt was a 1938 graduate of Holton High School and was an Army veteran
of WWII. He served in the Aleutian Islands and was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific
Theater Ribbon with one bronze star, the Good Conduct Ribbon and the Victory
Medal. Mr. LaBolt was a farmer and had spent his entire life in the Hopewell
community. He was a member of the Hopewell Baptist Church, the Holton Masonic
Lodge, and the Osgood American Legion. He had formerly served as Otter Creek
Township Trustee, was a former agent and director of Patrons Mutual Insurance
Company, and had served as sexton of the Hopewell Cemetery for several years.
In 2001 Mr. LaBolt was awarded the Tom Wallace Farm Forestry Award, the District
4 Charles Deam Forestry Stewardship Award, and was named Historic Hoosier Hills
Outstanding Woodland Owner of the year. He was also named Conservation Farmer
of the Year in 2002 and Master Farm Conservationist in 2004.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 26 at 11:00 a.m. at the Hopewell
Baptist Church with Rev. David Shivers officiating. Burial will be in the Hopewell
Cemetery with military graveside rites by the Osgood American Legion. Visitation
will be Friday, November 25 from 4-8:00 p.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral
Home in Versailles with Masonic services by the Holton Masonic Lodge at 7:30
p.m.

Evelyn M. Marshall
Evelyn M. Marshall, 91, of Madison, passed away Sunday, November
13, 2005 at her residence. She was born January 15, 1914
in Cross Plains, the daughter of Clyde and Alice Vestal Matthews
both deceased. She married Leonard G. Marshall and he preceded
her in death on July 30, 1988.
Survivors include niece Kathy Yauger of Versailles; nephew
William Mathews of Cross Plains; caregivers Roger and Myrtle
Smith of Madison; three great-nieces; one great-nephew and
several cousins.
She was preceded in death by brothers Vestal Buck Mathews,
Gale Ted Mathews, and William Bill Mathews, and niece Mary
Jane Mathews Brewer.
Mrs. Marshall was a homemaker. She was a member of North Madison
Christian Church. She volunteered at the Salvation Army Store,
Retired Senior Volunteer Program and Hickory Creek Nursing
Center.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, November 18 at 2:00 p.m. at Cross
Plains Methodist Church Cemetery with Pastor Roger Smith officiating.

Jerome E. “Shorty” Worland
Jerome E. “Shorty” Worland, 79, of Westport, passed
away Tuesday, November 15, 2005 at the Community East Hospital,
Indianapolis. He was born November 13, 1926 in Decatur County,
the son of Luther “Cap” and Florence (Woods) Worland
both deceased. He married Frances C. Stuehrenberg on April
1, 1967 and she preceded him in death on April 20, 2002.
Survivors include stepsons James Zapfe of Mosspoint, MS, Raymond and Bernard
Zapfe of Westport, and, Donald Zapfe of Holton; stepdaughter Mary Ann Wamsley
of Greensburg; brothers Edward and Bobby Worland; sister Ruth A. Heltzel of Cambridge
City; special friend Martha Stuhrenberg of Greensburg; 15 step-grandchildren
and 17 step-great-grandchildren.
Mr. Worland was a farmer and a self-employed truck driver. He was a member of
the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the Eagles Lodge. He was a past
member of the Millhousen Fire Department.
Visitation will be Thursday, November 17 from 4-8:00 p.m. at the Porter-Oliger-Pearson
Funeral Home, 302 N. Franklin St., Greensburg. Funeral services will be Friday,
November 18 at 10:00 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Millhousen
with Rev. Robert Hankee officiating. Burial will be in the Immaculate Conception
Cemetery.

Paul Richard
Reynolds, Sr.
Paul Richard Reynolds, Sr., 76, of Milan, passed away Monday,
November 14, 2005 at his residence. He was born June 27, 1929
in Muncie, the son of Morton and Ora Kelly Reynolds both deceased.
He married Marilyn Howell on January 12, 1968 in Scottsburg,
and she survives.
Survivors also include son Paul Reynolds, Jr. of Milan; daughters Pauline and
husband Lewis Pate of North Vernon, Rose and husband Larry Ashpaugh of North
Vernon, Dee Ellis of Scipio; and, Lisa and husband Lonnie Clymer of North Vernon,
brothers Lee of North Vernon; and, Clarence of Seymour, sister Alice Amis of
North Vernon, half-sister Lula Mae Wilder of Seymour, sisters-in-law Bertie Wilbur
of Muncie, and Imogene Reynolds of Dallas, TX, nine grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by brothers Ray, William and Kenneth, and, one great-grandchild.
Mr. Reynolds retired from True Temper in 1988. He also worked construction with
Orville Day.
Funeral services are today, Thursday, November 17 at 1:30 p.m. at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel
Funeral Home, 420 South State Street, North Vernon with Rev. Donald Buck officiating.
Burial will be at the Vernon Cemetery in Vernon.

Ruby E. Ellison
Ruby E. Ellison, 88, of Chipley, FL, passed away Tuesday, November 15, 2005 at
the Washington County Convalescent Center in Chipley. She was born near Pleasant
in Switzerland County on June 24, 1917 the daughter of Elmer and Gladys Forwood
Konkle. She was married to Russell Ellison in 1935 and he preceded her in death
in 2000.
Survivors include one son Elvan Ellison and his wife Jean of Chipley, FL; one
daughter Martha Ellison of St. Joseph, MO; grandchildren Mark Ellison and his
wife Leslie of Fayetteville, NC; and Amy Weeks and her husband Joe of Chipley,
FL; three great-grandchildren, Ashley and Nathan Dunn and Alex Ellison.
Mrs. Ellison was a homemaker and a member of the Sparta Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 19 at 10:30 a.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter
Funeral Home in Versailles with Rev. M. Alice Crawford of the Rising Sun United
Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in the Marble Corner Cemetery in
Versailles. Visitation will be Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until time of services.

William Morris Nickell
William Morris Nickell, 84, of Osgood, passed away Monday,
November 14, 2005 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Hospital, Carmel.
He was born April 24, 1921 in Ripley County, the son of Marvin
and Dorothy Wells Nickell both deceased. He married Edna
Ellen Kress on January 16, 1946 in Pendleton and she preceded
him in death on October 14, 2000.
Survivors include son Marvin J.H. Nickell of Osgood; daughter Kaye L. Wolverton
of Pendleton; sister Juanita Mahaffey of Katy, TX; five grandchildren and five
great-grandchildren.
Mr. Nickell was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII. He was an accountant for 24 years
for Tibbetts Mechanical of Anderson. Mr. Nickell raised and sold registered polled
hereford cattle and breeding stock. He was a 50-year member of the Lions Club.
Mr. Nickell was a past member of Pendleton Methodist Church, the Masonic Lodge
of Anderson and the Dolphin Country Club of Anderson. He attended St. Peter’s
UN Church of Christ in Osgood.
Visitation will be Friday, November 18 from 9-11:00 a.m. at Neal’s Funeral
Home, 306 S. Walnut St., Osgood. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. at
the funeral home. Burial will be at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery, Napoleon.

Garry Robert Shelp
Garry Robert Shelp, 55, passed away on Thursday, October 27,
2005 at the Hospice Center in Denver, CO. He was the son
of Henry and Florence Shelp of Greensburg and they survive.
He married Sylvia Theisen and she survives.
Survivors also include son Tanner; brother Larry and wife Evelyn
of Seymour; sister Cheryl Ann and husband Bill Shelp-Slagle
of Versailles; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Mr. Shelp was preceded in death by grandparents Earl and Esther
Bruner; and Henry and Nettie Shelp.
A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at the
First Presbyterian Church in Greensburg on Sunday, November
13 at 4:00 p.m. with a reception meal following. Friends and
family are invited.

James Thomas “J.T.” Mathis
James Thomas “J.T.” Mathis, 34, passed away on
Saturday, November 5, 2005 in Greensburg. He was born February
5, 1971 in Batesville, the son of Donald H. and Norma Murphy
Mathis of Greensburg, and they survive.
Survivors also include daughter Dana Mathis of Aurora; son
Cody Mathis of Osgood; brothers Ron of Columbus; Don of Seymour;
Wade of Rushville; and, Wayne of Greensburg; sisters Carrie
Sawyer of Dillsboro and, Yolanda Mathis Heavern of North Vernon.
Mr. Mathis was preceded in death by sister Kelly Mathis and
his grandparents.
Mr. Mathis was a self-employed construction worker.
Funeral services were Wednesday, November 9, 2005 at Porter-Oliger-Pearson
Funeral Home in Greensburg with Rev. Mike Freichner officiating.
Burial will be at a later date.

Raymond Paul Doane
Raymond Paul Doane, 64, of Milan, passed away Monday, November
7, 2005 at his residence. Mr. Doane was born December 1,
1940, the son of George Raymond and Helen Elizabeth (Welton)
Doane, and they preceded him in death. He married Gerry E.
(Brandes) Doane on March 2, 1979, and she survives
Survivors also include sons Timothy Michael of Shelton, WA;
and, Christopher Lee of Wilkes-Barre, PA; sisters Sharen (Shari)
Kastning of Milan; Joan Doane of Norwich, NY; and, Billie Knapp
of S. New Berlin, NY; brother Charles of Pine Bush, NY; brothers
and sisters-in-law Gene and Juanita Taffe of Milan; Richard
and Mary Lee Brande s of Milan; Rodney and Roberta Brandes
of Batesville; and, Ronald and Betty Brandes of Milan; three
grandchildren Wesley Doane of Port Orchard, WA; Timothy Edward
Doane of Libby, MT; and, Felishia Raye Doane of Libby, MT.
He was preceded in death by daughter Laurie Doane and brother
Norman Doane.
Mr. Doane was a Special Deputy with the Ripley County Sheriff’s
Department. He was retired from law enforcement and had served
with the Ripley County Sheriff’s Department, the Sunman
Police Department and also was a security officer at Fluor
Fernald. Mr. Doane started the first Ripley County Shop-With-A-Cop
program. He was a past president of the William Rayner Fraternal
Order of Police Lodge #177, a member of the Osgood F&AM,
the Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis, past chaplain of
the Doane Family Association of America, and a member of the
Norwich Methodist Church. He also served as a military police
man in the U.S. Army. Mr. Doane also worked as a supervisor
for the Indiana State Highway Department. He served as a Pre-Trial
Diversion Director for the Ripley County Prosecutor’s
Office, was a past member of the Ripley County Council, and
was a former member of Milan Rescue 30.
Visitation is today, November 10, 2005 from 5-8:00 p.m. at
Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home, South Main Street, Milan. Masonic
Services by Osgood F&AM tonight, November 10, at 7:00 p.m.
at the funeral home. Funeral services will be on Friday, November
11, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Tom
Holt officiating. Burial will be at the St. Paul Methodist
Cemetery south of Sunman with military rites conducted by the
Milan Legion Post.

Bobbie C. Williams
Bobbie C. Williams, 74, of Aurora died Saturday, October 29, 2005 at his residence.
He was born October 23, 1931 in Berry, KY, the son of Walter and Odella Tinney
Williams and they preceded him in death. He married Norma Huddleston on November
10, 1951 in Lawrenceburg and she survives.
Survivors also include sons Rick Williams, Sr. of Clark Ridge, AR; and Walter
of Sunman; daughters Patricia Welch of Moores Hill; Carol Ashcraft of Rising
Sun; Cindy Lattire of Florence and Kim Murray of Aurora; 14 grandchildren and
two great-grandchildren. Mr. Williams was preceded in death by mother-in-law
and father-in-law James and Cleda Huddleston and brother-in-law Wymer C. Huddleston.
Mr. Williams was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He was retired from General
Electric of Evendale, OH. He was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church,
Sunman, and the American Legion.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, November 2 at the First Southern Baptist
Church, Sunman, with Hobert Brandenburg, Pastor, officiating. Burial was at Riverview
Cemetery with graveside military honors by the Korean War Veterans Association.
Memorials may be given to the Steeple Fund at the First Southern Baptist Church
or to Hospice of Dearborn County. Cook Funeral Home, Sunman, was in charge of
arrangements.
Bruce Alan Cain
Bruce Alan Cain, 41, of Bloomington, died Sunday, October 30, 2005 at the Bloomington
Hospital. He was born December 1, 1963 in Madison, the son of Lester H. and
Katharine V. (Eaton) Cain Francis, and she survives. His father preceded him
in death.
Survivors include life partner Kevin M. Richey and family of Bloomington; sister
Sue and husband Kenny Obendorf of Versailles; two nephews Rick Combs of Osgood
and Michael Obendorf of West Lafayette, several cousins and many friends.
Mr. Cain was preceded in death by step-father Hastel Francis.
Mr. Cain graduated from South Ripley High School and attended Indiana University
in Bloomington. He was in the restaurant and catering management business. In
1995 he was named Fourwinds Resorts Manager of the Year. Since 2002 he was co-owner
and operator of Peterson’s Restaurant & Catering.
Funeral services were held today, Thursday, November 3 at the Allen Funeral Home
in Bloomington with Rebecca Jiminez officiating. Graveside services followed
at Cliff Hills Cemetery in Versailles.

Clarence Ray Morton
Clarence Ray Morton, 71, formerly of Osgood died Monday, October 31, 2005 in
Sarasota, FL. He was born March 28, 1934 in Sunman, the son of Omer M., Sr.
and Alpha Marie Cline Morton and they preceded him in death. Survivors include
brothers Omer M. of Milan and Donald E. of Huntington, TX; sisters Helen Bolt
of Sarasota, FL; Barbara L. Huntington of Osgood; Dorothy M. Dickson of Greensburg
and Janice R. Carnes of Westport.
Mr. Morton was preceded in death by brother Charles H. Morton.
Mr. Morton was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a lifetime member
of Dillsboro VFW, a member of the Milan American Legion, and the Aurora Moose
Club. He worked at the Sportsman Tavern in Osgood approximately 15 years.
Visitation will be Friday, November 4 from 9-11:00 a.m. at Neal’s Funeral
Home, 306 S. Walnut Street, Osgood. Funeral services will be held Friday, November
4 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Perseverance Cemetery
in Osgood.

El Jean Bultman
Nelson
El Jean Bultman Nelson, 78, of Scottsdale, AZ, formerly of Napoleon, died Thursday,
October 20, 2005 in Scottsdale, AZ. She was born August 7, 1927 in Lawrenceburg,
the daughter of Richard and Hilda Hanks, and they preceded her in death. She
married Jerry Norman Bultman, and he preceded her in death. She then married
Jerry Nelson, who survives.
Survivors also include son Stevan Bultman of Columbus; daughter Karen (Bultman)
Works of Rising Sun; sisters Marilyn Meeks of Addyston, OH; Verna Ester of Greendale;
and Nancy Smith, Aurora; brother Richard Hanks of Scottsdale, AZ; five grandchildren
and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the Holy Cross Lutheran
Church, Scottsdale, AZ. Burial was at Green Acres Cemetery in Scottsdale. Messinger
Mortuaries, Scottsdale, was in charge or arrangements.
Herbert Grigsby
Herbert Grigsby, 77, of Versailles passed away Tuesday, November 1, 2005 at
the King’s Daughters’ Hospital in Madison. He was born at Hazard,
KY on December 27, 1927 the son of Monroe and Susan Noble Grigsby. He was
married
to Nettie Myers on February 27, 1951 and she survives.
Other survivors include three daughters, Onita Stephan and her husband Daniel
of Canaan; Valerie Miller and her husband Robby of Hanover; and Debbie Grigsby
and her fiancÈe Rev. Bob Harting of Versailles; grandchildren Tara McKay
of Madison; Damon Stephan of Canaan; Karrie Miller of Hanover; and Andrea, Amanda
and Ashli Harting; brother Lee Grigsby of Versailles and sister Nona Adams of
Fairview.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son Tommy Grigsby, grandson Danny
Joe Stephan, brothers Luke, Ned, Alonzo, and Will Grigsby and his sister Burley
Grigsby.
Mr. Grigsby was a retired farmer.
Visitation will be today, November 3 from 5-8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be
held Friday, November 4 at 11:00 a.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home
in Versailles with Rev. Bob Harting of the First Baptist Church in Osgood officiating.
Burial will be in the New Marion Cemetery.

John Horan
John Horan, 67, of Osgood, died Saturday, October 15, 2005. He was born July
3, 1938, the son of John R. and Delores Horan and they preceded him in death.
Survivors include sons John R. and Brian E. Horan, six grandsons, two great-grandsons
and two great-granddaughters.
Mr. Horan was preceded in death by daughter Kathy Horan Norman, four brothers
and two sisters.
Burial will be Saturday, November 5 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Johns Cemetery, Highway
350, Osgood with Rev. David Shivers of Hopewell Baptist church officiating.
Lester Wayne King
Lester Wayne King, 58, of Seymour, died Monday, October 31, 2005 at Schneck Medical
Center in Seymour. He was born March 12, 1947 in Madison, the son of Orlester
and Pauline Marcella DeBurger King. He married Linda Lee Rose on June 26, 1965
in Versailles, and she survives.
Survivors also include mother, Pauline (King) Turner of Versailles; sons Christopher
Wayne and wife Vicki and Michael Todd both of Seymour; brothers Danny Joe, Larry
Lee and wife Beverly, both of Versailles; and George “Billy” of Bloomington;
sisters Cheri and husband Rev. Rick Burcham of Versailles; Tera and husband Ken
Benefiel; two grandsons, one aunt, one uncle, and several cousins, nieces and
nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Orlester King in 1968 and stepfather
George Turner in 1981, and nephew Jeffrey King in 1996.
Mr. King was a 1965 graduate of Versailles High School. He founded King’s
Trucking and Excavation in 1995 where he served as president until present time.
He had previously retired after 30 years service from Cummins Engine Co. of Columbus
where he was an International Special Project Manager. He was a member of the
Shelby Christian Church, Columbus American Legion #24, Seymour Fraternal Order
of Eagles, Seymour Loyal Order of Moose and the Seymour Chamber of Commerce.
Visitation is today, November 3, 2005, from 4-8:00 p.m. at the Burkholder Funeral
Chapel, 419 N. Chestnut Street, Seymour. Funeral services will be held on Friday,
November 4, 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Van Breeding
officiating. Burial will take place following the service in the Shelby Christian
Church Cemetery in Versailles with the Rev. Rick Burcham officiating.

Russell Fuernstein
Russell Fuernstein, 59, of St. Leon, died Monday, October 31, 2005 at Margaret
Mary Community Hospital in Batesville. He was born October 16, 1946, the son
of Lester and Georgiana Fuernstein.
Survivors include father, Lester Fuernstein; sons Rusty of Indianapolis; Randy
and wife Kelly of St. Peters and Ron of Sunman; sister Darlene Mudd of Ninevah;
and brothers Jerome and Jim, both of St. Leon.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Georgiana and sister Mary Fuernstein.
Visitation is today, November 3, 2005, from 11-2:00 p.m. at Andres-Wuestefeld
Funeral Home, Highway 1, Dover. Funeral services with military graveside service
will follow visitation at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery,

Zeda Marie Bladen Meadows
Zeda Marie Bladen Meadows, 72, of Madison, died Saturday, October 29, 2005 at
The Waters of Clifty Falls, Madison. She was born June 12, 1933 in Clark County,
the daughter of Thomas and Irene Goins Bladen and they preceded her in death.
She married Frank J. Meadows on September 7, 1950.
Survivors include daughters Deborah and husband George Singer of Cataula, GA;
and Melodye and husband Earl Clark of Fairhope, AL; sons William “Tom” and
wife Dixie of Butlerville; Mark of Madison; Scott of Cincinnati, OH; sisters
Dorothy Dean of Madison; Ruby Dean of Nabb; Martha Barton of New Washington;
Thelma Youngblood of Madison; brothers Robert Bladen of Milton, KY; Aubrey Bladen
of Cloverdale; Floyd Bladen of Madison; 13 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren;
and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Mrs. Meadows attended New Washington High School. She retired after working 32
years for Grote Industries.
Funeral services were Wednesday, November 2 at Grandview Memorial Gardens Mausoleum
Chapel, North Madison with Rev. Roger Dean officiating. Burial was at the Grandview
Memorial Gardens.
