According to information from Lt. Stan Holt of the Batesville Police Department, three teens have been arrested in connection with recent burglaries in the Batesville area.

As Officer Jeff Davies and Corporal Steve Yorn made a stop for a traffic violation near the intersection of Park Avenue and Pohlman Street in Batesville last week, January 25, one of the passengers fled from the vehicle. He was later identified as Joshua Gutzwiller, 18. The two remaining occupants were Justin Harmon and Michael Abrams, both 18. Inside the vehicle officers found pry tools and pieces of vending machines.

Harmon and Abrams were taken to the Batesville Police Department for further questioning. Both of the men admitted to police they were involved in breaking into the American Legion, Java Hut and Coonhunters Lodge on two occasions. Both were arrested on preliminary charges of Burglary of a Structure, a class C felony, and were taken to the Ripley County Jail. The initial arrest was around 4:00 a.m. and Gutzwiller was located later the same morning and also taken into custody.

Later the same day of the arrests, officers from Batesville as well as the Ripley County Sheriff's Department and Indiana State Police, searched two Batesville residences and a vehicle. They found several items from the burglaries including four military rifles taken from the American Legion. The suspects will face charges in Franklin County for the burglary at the Java Hut.
