Ripley County Tourism Director Katherine Taul presented the
Sunman Town Board with the Indiana Milestone Award from Lt.
Governor Becky Skillman for their 150th anniversary at their
April meeting. They also received Indiana Senate Concurrent
Resolution twenty-seven recognizing their sesquicentennial.
The celebration of their 150th anniversary will be held over
the Labor Day weekend.
The Town has completed their Comprehensive Plan. They had received
a Department of Commerce Grant for the project. A Certificate
of Completion was signed.
The Sunman Waterworks was given the 2004 Water Fluoridation
Quality Award from the Indiana Department of Health.
The Town contracted with R. J. Umbaugh and Associates to conduct
a rate study for the town costing $5,000 per utility. A rate
study has not been done since 1998.
The Sidewalk Project is going well according to Utility Superintendent
Carl Bruns. The town is adding handicapped ramps at the ends
of all the sidewalks. The corners of Taylor and 101 and West
Washington and 101 will have to be widened. Written permission
from the property owners needs to be on file before work can
continue.
All three board members attended the meeting: Wayne Jenner,
John Campbell and Mike Wolffe. Also present to advise the board
were town Attorney Jack Kellerman and Clerk-Treasurer Kris Schneider.
The next regular meeting of the Sunman Town Board will be May
18 at 6:30 p.m. at the Sunman Town Hall.
