Members for Milan Park Board needed

Cindy DiFazio - Staff Writer

All members were present at the regular meeting of the Milan Town Board, held on Monday, December 11.

Linda Baurley gave her final report as Milan Park Board president. Once again, the board expressed its gratitude for her service to the town. Town Board member, Matt Huffman, recommended that Jeff Byard be appointed as the third member of the park board. Two slots remain open. Anyone interested in volunteering for the Milan Park Board should call the town hall at 654-3407.

Town Manager, John Ingram, reported that another two of the older fire hydrants in town had been replaced - one by the former town hall and one on Warren Street.

Ingram also reported that he is meeting with Dana Riddle, ex-president of the Madison Main Street group. He reported that Riddle is willing to assist with Milan’s effort to revitalize downtown.

Reporting for Town Marshal Gary Skaggs who was not present, Ingram listed:
• 2 business burglaries
• 3 theft reports
• 2 domestic
• 2 traffic crashes involving property damage
• 1 arrest for invasion of privacy
• 1 arrest for failure to appear
• 3 arrests for OWI
• 1 arrest for driving while suspended/prior
• 2 arrests for public intoxication
• 2 arrest for minor consuming
• 1 arrest for disorderly conduct
• 3 arrests on warrants
• 1 resisting law enforcement
• 2 traffic arrests
• 15 traffic stop warnings
• 2 criminal mischief complaints
• 10 assists to other agencies
• 3 assists with fire and EMS
• 3 VIN checks
• 1 handgun permit
• 105 reserve hours

Jay Hall, representing Bestway Disposal, asked that the town consider using Bestway’s automated system. The company is offering to provide free containers to all of the town’s residents. Hall told board members that the automated system keeps costs down, is faster and makes the town cleaner. He said animals cannot get into trash and all the trash containers look uniform. Fewer employees are needed to pick up garbage and it is much safer for the garbage truck driver as he doesn’t have to get out of the truck to empty trash cans.

Trash will continue to be picked up as usual on Fridays throughout the holidays.

Town Hall will be closed on Monday, December 25 for Christmas and Monday, January 1 for New Year’s Day.
