Police say an alert citizens call has resulted
in three Crawfordsville men being arrested on various charges.
The incident occurred early last Saturday morning, December
16.
According to Sgt. Marvin Smith of the Ripley County Sheriffs
Department, the three men were arrested after someone saw two
of them run from a closed business and jump into a red Camaro.
The suspicious behavior alerted the citizen to get the license
plate number and notice the direction the car went.
Armed with that information, Batesville police officers Jeff
Davies and Steve Yorn located the vehicle and followed it. The
officers along with Sgt. Smith stopped the vehicle at the Sunman
exit. Two of the men in the vehicle were wanted out of Montgomery
County on Felony Burglary warrants.
Mathew D. Sheets, 20, and Michael R. Kinirsky, 18, were arrested
at the scene. Drugs and drug paraphernalia were found on them.
Sgt. Smith also noted that a large amount of electronics, tattoo
equipment, scales and other novelties were located in the vehicle.
Later police would discover that the items had been stolen from
a Crawfordsville shop in late November.
Sgt. Smith estimated the items found to be worth thousands of
dollars.
Brandon K. Sheets, 20, the driver of the vehicle was also arrested
at the scene and booked for possession of stolen property and
possession of controlled substance.
Sgt. Smith noted that the unidentified callers assistance
was a huge part of the apprehension of these suspects. Police
rely on tips from the public and through their assistance a
lot of crimes are solved and criminals are found, he concluded.
If you have any information involving crimes, you are urged
to call the Ripley County Sheriffs Department at 812-689-5555
or the Indiana State Police at 812-689-5000.
