Canaan festival set for this weekend


The Canaan Fall Festival will be held this weekend, September 8, 9, and 10. The festival is in its 42nd year.
Events include stage entertainment with various bands and dance groups performing.
The Annual Pony Express Mail Run will take place on Saturday, September 10. The mail will be taken on horseback in saddle bags, relayed as the original Pony Express. A special pictorial cancellation has been approved by the United States Postal Service for all mail on the 40th Mail Run. Contact Postmaster Carolyn Hankins at 812-839-4600.
Other activities for the weekend include a flea market, arts and crafts stands, children's games, Little Indian Papoose contest, and a parade at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday.

Memorial dedication planned for John Maxwell

The Ripley County Farm Bureau is planning a memorial dedication for John Maxwell, a former Farm Bureau member. Maxwell is described as a true gentleman dedicated to his family, his community, his country and his God. He was a 4-H youth educator for a number of years.
The memorial is planned for September 17 at 3:00 p.m. at the Washington Township Community Building in Elrod and the public is invited to attend.

Versailles Pumpkin Show dates set

The 104th Versailles Pumpkin Show will be held September 27, 28, 29, and 30, this year. It is always held with the parade being on the last Saturday of the month of September however that may fall.
The event is sponsored by the Versailles Lions Club who have been working hard to bring the best festival possible to Versailles. Watch this paper for upcoming information on events throughout the festival.
