Eric McClure, 38, of Batesville, was taken into custody Sunday, January 28 without incident. He was arrested by the Indiana State Police in Jefferson County at the President’s Motel on Windridge Drive in Madison at 6:30 p.m. The ISP were assisted by the Madison Police Department.

McClure had been on the run since he was involved in an accident on January 20 that claimed the life of June Voegele, 48, of Madison. Two others were injured in the one-vehicle accident - Warren Voegele, 41, and Marie Clark, 18. All were passengers in the car police say McClure was driving that morning.

McClure fled the scene and was not located until Sunday, when he was arrested. On January 25 Ripley County Prosecutor Ric Hertel filed criminal charges against McClure for Leaving the Scene of An Accident Causing Death, a Class C Felony; two counts of Leaving the Scene causing injury, Class C Felonies; and Operating a Motor Vehicle as an Habitual Traffic Violator, Class C Felony.

On probation at the time of the accident for Operating a Vehicle as a Habitual Traffic Violator, McClure had lost his license for life, according to information on file at the Ripley County Sheriff’s Department. He had served his sentence and was released from Ripley County on probation on October 27, 2006. Less than three months from being released he was behind the wheel, with the results being tragic.

According to Ripley County Sheriff Tom Grills, as of Monday, January 29 McClure was being held at the Ripley County Jail and was awaiting his initial hearing in the Ripley Circuit Court.
