Anthony A. "Tony" Eisert
Anthony A. "Tony" Eisert, 78, of Milan passed away Saturday, January 27, 2007 at his residence in Milan. He was born at Fowler on March 18, 1928 the son of Philip and Sylvia Benson Eisert both deceased. He married Marie Grossman on August 7, 1948 and she survives.
Survivors also include sons Terry of Cincinnati and Michael and wife Lori of Milan; daughter Kimberly and husband Donald Barton of Milan; sister Ann Comisky of Ottawa, IL; and grandchildren Taylor and Paige Eisert; Kaitlyn Barton and Sean and Ryan York.
Mr. Eisert served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict. He was a retired farmer and bus driver for Route #5 for the Milan Community School System for 32 years. Mr. Eisert was a member of the Franklin Township Advisory Board and the Sunman American Legion Post. He was also a member of the St. Charles Catholic Church at Milan.
Visitation will be today, Tuesday, January 30 from 6-9:00 p.m. with rosary services at 8:30 at the Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home in Milan. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, January 31 at 10:00 a.m. at the St. Charles Catholic Church in Milan with Father Frank Eckstein officiating. Burial will be in the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery north of Milan with military gravesite services provided by the Sunman Legion Post.
Memorials may be given to the Milan High School Scholarship Fund.

Frank R. Cottingham, 89, of Lawrenceburg, died Sunday, January 28, 2007 in Lawrenceburg.
Visitation is today, Tuesday, January 30 from 6-8:00 p.m. at the Rullman Hunger Denney Funeral Home in Aurora. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 31 at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

William C. Zabriske
William C. Zabriske, 75, of Milan, died Friday, January 26, 2007 at the Waters of Batesville.

William "Bill" Hopkins
William "Bill" Hopkins, 89, of Osgood passed away Wednesday, January 24, 2007 at his residence. He was born at Mills, KY, on May 31, 1917 the son of McKinley and Rosa Taylor Hopkins both deceased. He married Roberta Jean Ake and she survives.
Survivors also include son Bill and wife Cathy of Palm Beach, FL; daughters Ginger and husband David Beasley of Torrington, CT; Debbie and husband George Patton of Moore Hill; and Judy and husband Kevin Schebler of Osgood; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; brothers Paul Hopkins of Lexington, KY; Ernest Jackson of Hamilton, OH; Carl Broughton of Sellersburg and Charles Jackson of Sellersburg; Virgil Jackson of Clarksville; Russell Hopkins of Louisville, KY; and Kelly Jackson of OH; sisters Dica Simpson of KY; Dorsel McManus and Jeannet Donovan of FL.
He was preceded in death by daughter Brenda Petro; brother Jewels Jackson and sister Hazel Petry.
Mr. Hopkins worked at the Thatcher Glass Company of Lawrenceburg for more than 32 years, retiring in 1980. He had attended Green Chapel Independent Baptist Church in Elrod.
Funeral services were held Saturday, January 27 at Neal’s Funeral Home in Osgood. Burial was at the New Cravens Cemetery in Milan.
Memorials may be given to the F.O.P. Children’s Christmas Fund.

Olen Holbrook
Olen Holbrook, 61, of Westport, died Saturday, January 27, 2007 at the Inpatient Hospice Center at Columbus.
Visitation is today, Tuesday, January 30 from 4-8:00 p.m. at the Bass & Gasper Funeral Home in Westport. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 31 at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Maria Suzette Varble
Maria Suzette Varble, 44, of Moorefield passed away Wednesday, January 17, 2007 at the Community Hospital South, Indianapolis. She was born February 16, 1962 at Madison, the daughter of Fred and Margaret "Billie" Smock Varble.
Survivors include mother Billie Varble of Vevay; brothers Dale and wife Susan of Hanover; Vincent of Gulfport, MS; and, R.H. and wife Kris of New Richmond, OH; sisters Margaret and husband Kenny Riley, Lea Annette Varble, and Georgette and husband Barry O’Neal all of Moorefield; sister-in-law Cindy Varble of Moorefield; nephews Bobbie Varble, Zach O’Neal, Dustin Varble and Kyle Riley; nieces Katie Collier, Holly Varble and Shelly O’Neal; great-niece Macy Collier; aunt and uncle Betty and Jake Varble; and two great-aunts and uncles Eleanor and Doc LeClerc and Helen and Mike McClure.
She was preceded in death by her father Frederick A. Varble; brother Charles Brian Varble; and grandparents Bill and Peggy Smock and Charlie and Inez Varble.
Miss Varble was a 1980 graduate of Switzerland County High School and attended Ivy Tech for two years. She was employed at the Vevay Dairy Queen for ten years. Miss Varble was a volunteer fireman for the Moorefield Community Fire Department and was very active in the fire department’s auxiliary. She enjoyed cooking, walking with the girls at the YMCA, square dancing and her family, especially her nieces and nephews.
Graveside funeral services were held on Saturday, January 20 at the Caledonia Cemetery in Moorefield with Rev. Ronald Sandidge officiating.
Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home in Vevay was in charge of arrangements.

Irene M. Gross

Irene M. Gross, 92, of Hanover, died Saturday, January 20, 2007 at Thornton Terrace Health Campus in Hanover.
Visitation will be held today, Tuesday, January 23 from 11 a.m. to 12 noon at Vail-Holt Funeral Home Downtown Madison Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 12 noon. Burial will be in the Bayless Cemetery.

Myrtle S. Lainhart
Myrtle S. Lainhart, 88, of Holton passed away Thursday, January 18, 2007 at the Dearborn County Hospital in Lawrenceburg. She was born at Manchester, Kentucky on April 6, 1918 the daughter of Robert and Lizzie Keith Sizemore, both deceased. She was married to Edwin Tad Lainhart on February 3, 1940 and he preceded her in death on January 11, 2006.
Survivors include one son, Edwin Tad Lainhart, Jr. and his wife Sherrie of Erlanger, KY; one daughter, Patti Jo Hunyadi and her husband Mike of New Paris, OH; grandchildren Billy Lainhart of Falls of Rough, KY; Sharon Beth Schatzman and T.J. Lainhart both of Erlanger; Vanessa Deboo of Cuyahoga Falls, OH; and Amanda Hunyadi of Franklin; seven great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren; one brother Woodie Sizemore of Versailles; three sisters Mayme Renfro of Holton, Martha Scott of Virginia and Shirley Keeton of Versailles.
She was preceded in death by brothers Craft, Frank, Vernon and John Sizemore; sisters Vergie Baker, Esther Baker, Jeanette Druschel and Allie Hacker.
Mrs. Lainhart attended the Hiway Holiness Pentecostal Church at North Vernon. She was a retired beautician having operated a beauty shop in Holton for 30 years. She also operated Myrtle’s Antiques at Holton, which is now M&B Antiques. She enjoyed gardening, antiques and quilting.
Funeral services were held Monday, January 22 at the Hiway Holiness Pentecostal Church with Rev. Claude Fouts officiating. Burial was in the Holton Cemetery.

Dorothy Hawley Nichols Cooley of Batesville died Sunday, January 21, 2007.

Sr. Jean Gabriel Jones O.S.F., 84, of the Srs. of St. Francis Convent in Oldenburg, died Saturday, January 20, 2007 at the convent.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 24 at the Motherhouse Chapel in Oldenburg from 1-3 p.m. Funeral services will follow at 3 p.m. Weigel Funeral Home, Batesville, is in charge of the arrangements.

Ernest Charles Smith
Ernest Charles Smith, 82, of Osgood passed away Monday, January 15, 2007 at the Decatur County Memorial Hospital in Greensburg. He was born July 8, 1924 at Holton, the son of Guy and Katherine Fletcher Smith, both deceased. He married Laura Duncan in 1949 and she survives.
Survivors also include sons Michael of Shelbyville; Timothy and wife Bonnie, and Thomas of Westport; and Ronald and wife Tracy of Osgood; daughters Nancy and husband Kenneth McAdams of Milan; Katherine Popp of Newpoint; Cynthia and Richard Byrd and Terri Sims of Osgood; sisters Mildred Newhart of Osgood; Ethel Anderson of Milan and Florence Mcallister of Bright; 21 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by son Kenneth Smith; brother Arthur Smith and sister Geneva Smith.
Mr. Smith was a past employee of Milan Furniture Factory in the 1960’s. He had also worked at Stedman’s Foundry in Aurora and was involved with farming.
Funeral services were held on Friday, January 19 at Neal’s Funeral Home in Osgood. Burial was at Cravens Cemetery in Milan.

Dale C. Lochard, Sr.
Dale C. Lochard, Sr., 67, of Milan passed away Thursday, January 18, 2007 at the Margaret Mary Community Hospital in Batesville. He was born December 20, 1939 at Greensburg, the son of Manuel and Hazel Brancamp Lochard, both deceased. He married Margaret Reynolds on September 23, 1961 and she survives.
Survivors also include sons Dale, Jr. and wife Shelia of Versailles and Stanley of Milan; daughters Teresa and husband Landon Lageman of Milan and Jennifer Bear of Mason, OH; and, six grandchildren Emmitte and Brent Beard; Calista and Ronnie Lageman; and, Lauren and Grant Lochard.
Mr. Lochard was retired from Seagram’s Distillery. He also retired as the Milan Utility Superintendent. Mr. Lochard was a member of the Mud Pike Baptist Church, the Milan F&AM #31 Masonic Lodge, The Scottish Rite of Indianapolis and the Sons of the American Legion.
Funeral services were held on Monday, January 22 at the Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home in Milan with Pastor Tom Holt officiating. Masonic services were held Sunday at the funeral home. Burial was in the Mud Pike Cemetery north of Delaware.
Memorials may be given to the family.

Robert Edward "Bobby" Collins
Robert Edward "Bobby" Collins, 48, of Versailles died Thursday, January 11, 2007 at Swiss Villa Health Care Center in Vevay. He was born May 3, 1958 the son of Paul and Edna Wininger Collins, both deceased.
Survivors include brothers Paul of Seattle, WA; David of Versailles and John of Holton; sisters Trudy Savage of Greendale, Margie Bleier of Erlanger, KY; Eileen Oliver of Tumwater, WA; Susan Walker of Versailles and Sally Brogan of Vevay; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by sister Judie Adams and brother Marvin Collins.
Funeral services were held Monday, January 15 at the Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home in Milan with Pastor Tom Holt officiating. Burial was in the New Craven Cemetery in Milan.
Memorials may be given to the donor’s choice.

Raymond Gray
Raymond Gray, 64, of Moores Hill died Thursday, January 11, 2007 at Dearborn County Hospital in Lawrenceburg. He was born May 9, 1942 the son of Eugene and Nellie Deaton Gray. He married Linda Wingate on May 21, 1963 and she survives.
Survivors also include son James "Robbi" Gray of Moores Hill; brother Kenneth of Milan; sisters Samantha Wolfe of Morrow, OH and Mary Baggewald of Elrod.
He was preceded in death by son David Allen Gray; brothers Johnny, Charlie and Lester Gray; and sisters Jean Turner and Gladys Beard.
Mr. Gray was a U.S. Army veteran having served in Vietnam. He was a member of the Milan American Legion and VFW posts. Mr. Gray was a former Dearborn County Deputy Sheriff and served as Moores Hill Town Marshal for 15 years. He also worked in construction and was a heavy equipment operator.
Funeral services were held Monday, January 15 at the Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home in Milan with David Fogle officiating. Burial was in the Forest Hill Cemetery, Moores Hill with graveside rites conducted by the Milan American Legion and VFW.
Memorials may be given to the Moores Hill Life Squad or the donor’s choice.

Donna E. Ricketts
Donna E. Ricketts, 89, of Osgood died Saturday, January 13, 2007 at Manderley Health Care Center in Osgood. She was born April 13, 1917 the daughter of Harry and Viola Rimstidt Henneke, both deceased. She married Lovelle Ricketts and he preceded her in death in 1977.
Her sister, Patricia A. Griffin of Tuscaloosa, AL survives.
She was preceded in death by brothers Charles and Dallas Henneke and sisters Georgia Gatlin, Virginia Kirch and Beverly Straber.
Mrs. Ricketts was a past member of the Ripley County Republican Women’s Organization and the Osgood Town Board. She had attended the Napoleon Lutheran Church.
Visitation will be on Thursday, January 18 from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. at Neal’s Funeral Home in Osgood. Funeral services will be held immediately following at 1:00 p.m. Burial will be in the Greendale Cemetery in Osgood.
Memorials may be given to the Alzheimers Association or Rescue 69.

Andrew J. Heath
Andrew J. Heath, 85, died on Friday, January 12, 2007 at the Odd Fellows Home in Greensburg. He was born in Switzerland County near Cross Plains on November 1, 1921 the son of Harold and Elsie Haskell Heath, both deceased.
He married Mary Marsh on June 25, 1943. They had four children: Patricia Mae, Jerry Wayne, Michael Andrew and Donna Sue.
On August 27, 1977 he married Phyllis Henderson, and she preceded him in death on March 30, 2002.
Survivors include son Jerry and wife Beverly Heath of Versailles; daughter Donna "Susi" and husband Larry Dean of Batesville; sisters Robena Searcy of Lee, FL; Marjorie Cunningham of Middleburg, FL; brother Gene and wife Alice Heath; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by daughter Patricia Mae and son Michael Andrew.
Mr. Heath was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII. He was a member of the Salem Christian Church, Cross Plains and attended Cross Plains Baptist Church for more than 20 years. He was also a member of the American Legion Post in Versailles. He farmed most of his life and worked at Rexnord in Madison, the Ripley County Highway Department and for the Town of Versailles.
Funeral services will be held today, Tuesday, January 16 at 10:30 a.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles. Burial will be in the Grandview Memorial Gardens in Madison.
Memorials may be given to Hospice of Decatur (or county of donor’s choice) or the Cross Plains Baptist Church.

Sue Bessler, 61, of Milan passed away Thursday, January 11, 2007 at King’s Daughters’ Hospital in Madison.
Visitation is today, Tuesday, January 16 from 5-8:00 p.m. at the Hope Baptist Church in Dillsboro. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 17 at 11:00 p.m. at Hope Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Riverview Cemtery, Aurora.

Sharon L. Gwin Sininger, 62, of Fayetteville, NC passed away Monday, January 8, 2007 at the Cape Fear Memorial Hospital in Fayetteville.

Willard Herman Louis Hunger
Willard Herman Louis Hunger, 96, of Benham died January 15, 2007 at Batesville. He was born Wednesday, August 17, 1910 in Ripley County, the son of Herman and Katherine Brinkman Hunger, both deceased. He married Roberta Steel and she preceded him in death.
Survivors include sons Donald and wife Polly Hunger, Keith and Ruth Hunger, Ernest and Kaye Hunger and Larry and Esther Hunger all of Versailles; daughters Anita and husband David Giltner of Middlebury; Karen and Ramon Sauley of Hanover; Becky Hunger of Louisville, KY and Eileen LaGreca of Dillsboro; 24 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by son Paul Hunger; brother Arnold Hunger; two grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Mr. Hunger owned and operated Hunger Trucking & Sons. He was a life member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church Olean and held several office on Church Council. Mr. Hunger served on the school board and was Trustee for Brown Township for several years.
Visitation will be Wednesday, January 17 from 5-8:00 p.m. at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Olean. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 18 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church with Pastor Marcus Felde officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Paul’s Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to the St. Paul Lutheran Church building or cemetery fund.
