Eagles torment Hilltoppers

Jac-Cen-Del High School ball fields were the sites for both
varsity baseball and varsity softball games against the
Madison Shawe Memorial Hilltoppers on Monday, April 9.
Lady Eagle Softball
The Lady Eagle varsity captured the 4-3 win over the Lady
Hilltoppers in the bottom of the 7th inning. Pinch base
runner Samantha White was on third base as the Lady Eagles
collected two outs. White scored from third off the base
hit single by senior Abby Lauber, ending the game with the
Lady Eagle win.
No other stats were available for the softball game.
Eagle Baseball
The Eagle varsity baseball team was also in contention against
the Hilltoppers on the baseball field. JCD took the early
lead over the Hilltoppers at 1-0 in the first inning.
Eagle David Busch drew a walk to get their lead off batter
on first base. He was picked off by the Shawe pitcher for
out #1. Eagle senior Justin Huff singled to again put a
runner on first. JCD senior Daniel Leonetti hit into a 6-3
FC, moving Huff to second. With 2 outs, Eagle senior Tucker
Brown singled to drive Huff home for the score. Eagle Brandon
Gehl hit into a FC for the third out to end the first inning,
JCD 1-0 Shawe.
Eagle Tucker Brown at the mound with strong defense only
gave up 1 hit through the first 2 innings for the Hilltoppers.
The Eagles, however, added another run in their second inning
at bat. Blake Sutton led off with a walk to start the inning
and later scored from third for 2-0 JCD off a single by
teammate Matt Gehl.
The Hilltoppers rallied to tie the game at 2 in the top
of the third after a Brown strike out on the lead off batter
and a 6-3 put out for 2 outs. The Eagles, however, shut
the door on Topper scoring through the fourth, fifth and
sixth innings.
In the bottom of the third, Eagles Leonetti, Brandon Gehl
and Sutton each scored to regain the lead at 5-2. Again
in the fourth inning the Eagles added 3 for an 8-2 score.
Scoring in the fourth were Eagles David Busch, Justin Huff
and Daniel Leonetti. JCD added 2 runs in their half of the
fifth as Eric Horan and Matt Gehl crossed the plate for
10-2, going to the top of the sixth.
Shawe sent four batters to the plate in the sixth, unable
to score. The Eagles were also held scoreless in their at
bat in the sixth. Hilltoppers scored a pair of runs in the
top of the seventh for a final score of JCD 10-4 Shawe.
Eagle Tucker Brown pitched to 18 batters over his 4 innings
on the mound giving up 2 runs off 4 hits, a walk, and registered
6 strike outs. Brandon Gehl, in relief pitched 2 innings,
facing 9 batters, and gave up a hit and a walk while collecting
2 strike outs. Blake Sutton closed the game, pitching the
last inning, where he faced 6 batters. The battery scored
2 runs off 2 hits and 2 errors, and Sutton recorded 1 strike
out.

Senior Lady Eagle Emily Einhaus to participate in Indiana
2007 Top 40 Girls' Basketball Drills

Named selections made by Hoosier Basketball Magazine's publisher,
Garry H. Donna, includes Jac-Cen-Del Lady Eagle senior, Emily
Einhaus.
Einhaus has been named one of approximately 1500 eligible
statewide girls' basketball senior players, to the Top 40
alternate teams of 2007.
As a result of being selected, she has been invited to participate
in the two sessions of Top 40 workouts hosted by Hoosier Basketball
Magazine in conjunction with the IHSAA and the IBCA on Sunday
April 15.
The games will be held at Ben Davis High School in Indianapolis
with the first session (primarily from northern & southern
Indiana) from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. and the second session (primarily
of central Indiana) set for 3:30 - 5:30 p.m. Lady Eagle Einhaus
is invited to be a part of both sessions.
Sessions are open to the public with an admission charge of
$5.00/session.
Other local ladies selected included North Decatur Lady Charger
Hillary Wenning who was also selected to the Top 40 alternate
team, with Switzerland County Lady Pacer Ashley Bright named
to the Hoosier Magazine Top 40 team.
