Raider varsity baseball team yet in pursuit of perfect ORVC season
Gary Franklin, Sports Editor

In recent action by the South Ripley Raider varsity baseball team, they won a pair of games over the Jac-Cen-Del Eagles (one at home and the later at JCD) split a double header held at South Ripley on Saturday against the Austin Eagles and slammed the door shut on the South Decatur Cougars 20-0 in a Friday, May 4 game.

The Raiders latest game with JCD was played on Tuesday, May 8 at JCD. It was a rain out make up that found the Raiders trailing 2-0 after 3 innings.

Not to be shut out, the Raiders came to life in the top of the fourth inning to take a 4-2 lead. The Raiders added a pair of runs in the top of the sixth for a 6 -2 score.

The Eagles added one more run before games end as Daniel Leonetti rounded the bases in the bottom of the seventh for the final score of SR 6-3 JCD.

The regular season scheduled Raider match up between SR and JCD was held on Monday, May 7, at South Ripley.

The Raiders behind pitcher BJ Sieverding had a 8-0 shut out working until the Eagle at bat in the seventh inning. The Eagles managed to put 4 runs on the board by games end for a 8-4 final score.

Pitching in relief for the Raider/JCD close was Tim Burcham.

The Saturday, May 5 Raider vs Austin Eagles double header was played at South Ripley. The Raiders took a hard fall in the first game and were shot down by the Austin Eagles 18-2.

The second game, however, concluded with a more favorable result for Raider fans, ending in a 6-5 Raider victory.

Of concern to Raider staff, teammates and fans was the injury to senior Michael Fear during the days double header action. Reportedly Fear will be off for a short period and is expected to return reasonably soon to the lineup.

The Raiders made a run for the Semi-State last year and are invisioning nothing less for their team this year.

Their perfect ORVC run to date would appear to be developing for that to be a reasonable expectation.
