Senior Lady Indian Lacee
Alloway earns prestigious Athletic Ring Award
Gary Franklin, Sports Editor
Milan Athletic Director, Marty Layden spoke of the privilege
to make the presentation of one of Milan athletics programs
highest honors bestowed on a Milan athlete, the awarding of
the Indian Athletic Ring Award. During the Milan senior awards
banquet held at the Milan HS cafeteria on Saturday, May 19,
Layden presented the award to senior Lady Indian athlete Lacee
Alloway.
The Athletic Ring is an award given by the Milan Athletic
Department and it symbolizes the highest level of athletic
success of Milan student athletes. In order to qualify for
the award, the athlete must have earned a minimum of 12 varsity
letters in his or her high school career. They must also be
nominated by a varsity coach to be considered and also must
receive 75% of the votes by the members of the Milan Athletic
Council. This award emphasizes the success of the multi-sport
athlete, which is a dying breed in today's world of an athlete
that specializes most often in one sport.
Layden stated, "I am proud to announce the recipient
of the Athletic Ring to an athlete that earned four varsity
letters in the sports of volleyball, basketball, softball
and cheerleading, giving her a total of 16 varsity letters.
In continuing, he stated, "She was a member of the 2003
Softball Sectional Champions and the 2006 Volleyball Sectional
Champions and has been named as an All Conference performer
multiple times.
These accomplishments in sports have all been acquired while
maintaining a 3.89 GPA which sets her as the 5th highest ranking
student academically in the Class of 2007.
Alloway was nominated for consideration by Coach Terry Wullenweber,
head coach of the Milan Lady Indian Varsity Volleyball Team.
Miss Alloway will be greatly missed in many Lady Indian sports
programs in the years to come.
May we at Ripley Publishing Co., Inc. also congratulate Alloway
on her dedication and earned special recognition.
