Lady Eagles deliver Coach Brian Samples his 100th career win

Gary Franklin - Sports Editor
Championship night for the Lady Eagles of Jac-Cen-Del High School held even more meaning as their coach, Brian Samples, would attain a 100th career victory milestone in his coaching career. Winning their championship game in the 2007 IHSAA Class 1A Sectional warranted it.
By a score of 3-2, the Lady Eagles came through in their home at bat of the 7th inning to put the winning run across the plate.
Lady Eagle junior, Kara Harlemert, paved the way with a lead off triple. She was replaced on the base by junior Abby Morehead, who was put in the game to possibly steal home.
Two batters later, the Lady Eagles' shining moment began to dim with two outs and a runner anxiously awaiting the opportunity to cross the plate for the victory.
Sophomore Valorie Wagner stepped into the batters box to blister the second delivered pitch, driving the winning run home.

Jac-Cen-Del Lady Eagle Varsity Softball Coach Brian Samples will easily ever remember his 100th career win as it also propelled his 2007 team into Class 1A Regional competition. The Lady Eagles defeated the Rising Sun Lady Shiners 3-2 in their bottom of the 7th inning at bat.

The Jac-Cen-Del Lady Eagles softball team pose with their newly earned sectional championship trophy following their 3-2 defeat of the Rising Sun Lady Shiners.

Pinch running for Kara Harlemert, Lady Eagle Abby Morehead scores from third, off the Valorie Wagner single that delivered the needed blow to send their team to Regional competition.

The Raiders Varsity Baseball Team were closing in on their second straight undefeated ORVC season with 10 of the 12 games of this season behind them. However, as the saying goes, "til the fat lady sings'. The Raiders fell victim to the Switzerland County Pacers on Monday, May 21, by a score of 5-4 at the SCHS baseball field.

Rebounding from the loss, the Raiders quickly got themselves back on track with a final ORVC season game win by defeating the Milan Indians 11-3.

The Raider regular season schedule will come to a close as they battle the Jennings County Panthers at Forest G. Waters Field at South Ripley.

The Raiders are slated to play Milan on Wednesday, May 30, at 7 PM, in Sectional #45 at Switzerland County.

New milestones set by the 2007
Milan Lady Indian Softball Team

Milan Indian Coach Milton Teer and his band of Lady Indian softball players fell short of the goal they were shooting for this season, but it was not from a lack of work, effort nor dedication to their cause.
As Teer puts it, "I couldn't be more proud of the Milan Lady Indian varsity team. I feel our kids made sacrifices to get better and they never quit. Our seniors are going to be missed. (Lacee Alloway and Kristy Teer) Both girls are hard working kids any coach would love to have on their team. I am also proud to say that our underclassmen are going to be fun to coach in the upcoming year. Our season had several bright spots as this team set school records for our best conference record at 10-2 and most wins in a season with 18."
The Lady Indians fell to a Southwestern Lady Rebel team at Switzerland County HS ball park on Monday, May 21, during the first game of Class 2A, Sectional #44. The final score was 4-0.
