Driver injured in two vehicle crash

Tuesday, June 5, at approximately 1:48 p.m., James Drew, Dillsboro, was operating a fertilizer truck which was northbound on US 421 when he tried to brake for a stopped vehicle which was turning onto Old Michigan Road. Drew was having difficulty stopping and his brakes locked up which caused the truck to go sideways into the southbound lane where it collided with a 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier driven by Steven Riley of Elsmere, KY. The vehicle, which was turning onto Old Michigan Road, was able to escape the collision. Riley was trapped in his car for a short time, he was then airlifted by PHI. The extent of his injuries were not available at press time. Drew was not injured. Those responding to the scene were Deputy Rob Bradley, New Marion and Versailles Fire Dept., Ripley County Medic, Rescue 69, Indiana State Police and officers from the Ripley County Sheriff’s Office. The investigation is ongoing.
