Agnes Smith
Agnes Smith, 88, of Osgood, passed away Sunday, August 19, 2007 at the Margaret Mary Community Hospital in Batesville. She was born in Cincinnati on October 23, 1918, the daughter of Fred and Agnes Niederhauser. She was married to Grant Smith and later to Reginald Adamcezenski who preceded her in death in 1996.
Survivors include three sons, Robert Smith, William G. Smith and his wife Shelley all of Friendship, and Douglas Smith and his wife Shelena of Flippin, Arkansas; three grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Mrs. Smith was a homemaker and a member of the St. John Catholic Church in Osgood.
A memorial service will be held today, Thursday, August 30, at 6 p.m. at the St. John’s Catholic Church in Osgood. Memorials may be given to the Activity Fund of the Manderley Health Care Center in care of the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles.

Barbara Jean Steele
Barbara Jean Steele, 56, of Sanford, North Carolina, formally of Versailles, passed away Monday, August 20, 2007 at her residence.
She was born August 25, 1950 to Vurlin E. and Marcella Shook McIntosh.
She is survived by her husband Norman D. Steele Sr.; one daughter, Bobbi Jo Demesme; one son, Norman D. Steele Jr. and wife Jennifer; four grandchildren, Michaela Demesme, Kendall Steele, Taylor Steele, and Conner Steele; all of North Carolina.
Also surviving are three brothers, Vurlin L. McIntosh of Crothersville, Jerry McIntosh of Brookville, and Thomas McIntosh of Versailles; two sisters, Joann Vanosdol of Holton and Marsha Wright of Versailles; as well as several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Anna L. Hawkins, brothers, Wm. "Taylor" McIntosh and Timothy "Chop" McIntosh; and grandson, Rion "Dale" Steele.
Services are pending at this time.

Nancy Michael
Nancy Michael, 63, of Batesville, formerly of Versailles, passed away Monday, August 20, 2007 at the Margaret Mary Community Hospital in Batesville. She was born at Evansville on January 7, 1944, the daughter of William Harlan and Eva June Hammon Michael.
Survivors include one sister, Virginia Holmgren of Lake Placid, Florida; three brothers, William Michael of Modesto, CA., John Michael of San Marino, CA., and Dr. Fred Michael of Mt. Pleasant, SC. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Tom Michael.
Ms. Michael was a published poet. She had worked for the Sherman House, McDonalds, and Wendys, all of Batesville. She attended the New Hope Day Program at Batesville.
Funeral services will be held Friday, August 24 at 11 a.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Rev. David Shivers of the Hopewell Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in the Holton Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of services.
Memorials may be given to the Holton Cemetery.

Lucy Mabel Pegee, 92, of Versailles, died Monday, August 13, 2007 at the Waters of Dillsboro. Services are private and at the convenience of the family.

Phyliss J. Hafft
Phyliss J. Hafft, 70, of Versailles, passed away Wednesday, August 8, 2007 at the King’s Daughters’ Hospital, Madison. She was born in the Tanglewood community near Versailles on September 28, 1936 the daughter of J. Clifford and Garnet Alley Horton. She was married to Gene Hafft on April 23, 1963 and he survives.
Other survivors include one son, Jeff Hafft and his wife Karen of Versailles; two daughters, Jackie McNeelan and her husband Martin of Whiteland, and Jennifer Alley and her husband Woodrow of Oaklandon; seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren; two brothers, Vincent Horton of Versailles and Ray Horton and his wife Phyllis Kay of Arcadia, Florida; one sister Wilma Clark of Jeffersonville.
Mrs. Hafft was a 1954 graduate of Versailles High School. She served as treasurer of the South Ripley School Corporation for 23 years retiring in 1995 and was also a homemaker. She also served as a volunteer for the South Ripley Elementary Library. She was a member of the Versailles Baptist Church and a member and past president of the Ripley County unit of the American Cancer Society. She was the Ripley County Volunteer for the American Cancer Society’s "Reach to Recovery" program and also had held this position on the state level as well as serving on several state committees.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 11 at 2 p.m. at the Versailles Baptist Church with Rev. Rick Burcham and Rev. Mark Walker officiating.
Burial will be in the Shelby Cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday from 4-8 p.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home, Versailles and from 1 p.m. Saturday until the time of services at the church.
Memorials may be given to the Versailles Baptist Church Music Fund, the Ripley County Cancer Society, or the South Ripley Elementary School Library in care of the funeral home.

Robert D. Frey
Robert D. Frey, 71, of Dillsboro, formerly of Moores Hill, passed away Saturday, July 28, 2007, at The Waters of Dillsboro. He was born November 15, 1935 in Parkersburg, WV, the son of Harry and Ethel Gabbard Frey. On February 9, 1954 he was united in marriage to Sondra Moehring and she survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Robert (Natalie) Frey, Jr. of Wyoming and Darvin (Melissa) Frey of Beattyville, KY; one daughter, Brenda (Bruce) Roeder of Dillsboro; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; and one step brother, Curtis Rattlif. He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Tracy Brown.
Mr. Frey served his country in the US Army working as a cook from 1953-1956. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and loved the out doors. He was a member of the Faith Free Will Baptist Church in Moores Hill.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, August 1 at the Ulrich-Filter-DeVries Funeral Home in Dillsboro. Burial was in the South Sparta Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Charlie McKinley’s ministry. The Ulrich-Filter-DeVries Funeral Home in Dillsboro was in charge of arrangements.

Donald W. Stevens

Donald W. Stevens, age 56, of Yorkville, passed away Thursday, July 26, 2007 at his home following a long illness. He was born in Milan on October 20, 1950 to William Stevens and Eleanor Snyder Stevens. He graduated from Dillsboro High School in 1968 and Western Kentucky University in 1972. In 1972 he was united in marriage to Beverly Kieninger, who survives.
Mr. Stevens was employed for many years as an auditor for the US Dept. of Agriculture. He and his wife were active members of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Greendale. He loved to hunt and fish, and very much enjoyed keeping up with high school, college and neighborhood friends. He was big on NASCAR racing, and one of his most prized possessions is a #3 cap signed by Dale Earnhart. His most favorite mode of transportation was his 1954 Chevrolet pickup truck.
Besides his wife, Don is survived by one son, Christopher Stevens of Lawrenceburg, and one sister, Susan (Kenneth) Cowan of Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services were held Monday, July 30 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Dillsboro. Burial was in the Oakdale Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Oakdale Cemetery Trust, Hospice of S.E. Indiana, or to Dearborn County Cancer Fund.

Gerald Gene Powers
Gerald Gene Powers, 69, of Columbus, passed away Tuesday, July 17, 2007. He was born in Forest Hill on April 21, 1938, the son of Charles and Mary Olive Powers. He was married to Margaret Lauderdale Powers on July 27, 1981 and she survives.
Other survivors include four daughters, Terri M. Powers, of Versailles, Jean (Don) Duerstock, of Greensburg, Peggy (Patrick) Crawford, of Jacksonville, FL, and Rebecca (Wendell) Cole, of Versailles; grand-children, Cameron Powers, Carson Powers, Kristina Duerstock, Jeffrey Duerstock, Amanda (Lee) Scheel, Aimee (Roger) Cromer, Michael Cole, and Myranda Cole; great grandchildren, Brandon and Brooklyn Cromer; three brothers, Harold (Dorothy) Powers, of WI, Ronald (Gwen) Powers of CA, Jack (Brenda) Powers of Colum-bus; four sisters, Mary Louis Jayne of Southport, Maude Michael of Westport, Jessie Bowers of WV, and Doris (Charles) Parson of Colum-bus.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, John, Charles A., Jimmie, and David Powers; and one sister, Lenna Lenora Kirtman.
Mr. Powers was a member of American Legion Post #24, FOE Aerie 927, Moose Lodge 398, Scottish Rite, Murat Shrine, Order of the Eastern Star, Lois Chapter #147, Greensburg Lodge No. 36, F.&A.M. He was the Parts Pricing Manager for Cummins, Inc. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling and spending time with fam-ily and friends. He also de-voted time to the Bartholo-mew County Veterans Color Guard, serving as Com-mander of the Color Guard for many years.
Visitation will be today, Thursday, July 19, from 4-8 p.m. at the Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home in Columbus. James Leo Biddle
James Leo Biddle, 71, of Napoleon, passed away Wednesday, July 18, 2007, at the Columbus Regional Hospital. He was born on January 5, 1936, in Ripley County, the son of Clyde W. and Elsie Van Devender Biddle (both deceased). He married Sharon Linville on October 28, 1967 and she survives.
Other survivors include three sons, Jay Biddle of Osgood, James Biddle, Jr. of Scottsburg, and Glen Biddle of Greensburg; three daughters, Connie Hauser and Sandy Sizemore, both of Osgood and Penny McCullough of Georgia; one brother, Lester Biddle, of Indianapolis; one sister, Joyce Hall, of Scottsburg; eight grandchildren and one great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers and sisters.
Mr. Biddle owned and operated Biddle’s Texaco of Osgood from 1966-1968, Biddle’s Body Shop of Na-poleon from 1969-1979 and Biddle’s Trucking of Napoleon from 1979-1990. He was a past Napoleon Fire Chief.

Betty F. Pettit, 77, passed away on Sunday, July 15, at Marion General Hospital, after a brief illness. She was born in Aurora, the daughter of the late Otis "Joe" and Marcella "Sally" (Lacherman) York. She married Donald C. Pettit,
Survivors include son, Dr. Donald (Ileana) Pettit of Pemborke Pines, FL and daughter, Jill (Keith) King of Marion, grandchildren, Chad (Ashley Rogers) Swanner, of Marion, Melissa (Israel Rodriguez) Swanner of Gas City, and Paula and Gaby Pettit of Pembroke Pines, FL and two great grandchildren, Caleb and Kiean Swanner and one step grandchild, Dillon Rodri-guez.
Mrs. Petit was raised in Milan, where she graduated from Milan High School. She was a full-time stay-at-home mom, grandma and great grandma. Raising her children and spoiling her grandchildren were her pas-sions. Once her children were in school she worked part-time at the Ann Shop and at the Indiana License Branch, both in Gas City. Betty was a member of Lak-eview Wesleyan Church and enjoyed doing volunteer work for her church. Kerry Curtis Murphy
Kerry Curtis Murphy, 62, of Kings Mountain, passed away Monday, July 2, 2007 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville, KY. Kerry was born Sunday, March 11, 1945 to the late Mike C. and Helene Mae Sears Murphy in Cincinnati, OH.
Kerry was united in marriage on January 30, 1964 to Beverly Reynolds. To this union were born three sons, Michael Kerry (Molly) Murphy of Zionsville, Patrick Curtis (Julie) Murphy of Aurora and Bryon Kelly (Jennifer) Murphy of Huntington. There are six grandchildren, Rachel, Allison, Delaney, Devin, Anna and Luke Murphy.
Kerry worked at Equitable Bag Company in Florence, KY for 21 years, Mashusita in Danville for 4 1/2 years, Oakwood Communities in Somerset for 5 years and lastly worked at Lincoln County Schools retiring June 1 of this year.
Kerry attended Memorial High School playing basketball and baseball and then passed his passion on to his sons. During his career he coached Little League and junior and senior baseball at Milan High School. Kerry was an avid outdoorsman, a UK fan and a member of Kings Mountain Methodist Church.
Funeral services were held Friday, July 6 at the Chapel of Barnett & Demrow Funeral Home in Waynesburg with Rev. Don Scilley officiating.
Burial was in the Pleasant Point Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to Lincoln County Athletic Fund, 60 Education Way, Stanford, KY 40484.

Margaret Delay Bultman
Margaret Delay Bultman passed away on Monday, July 9, 2007 at the Manderley Health Care Center in Osgood, where she had resided for eight years. She was born on September 12, 1912, in Ripley County, the daughter of William B. and Nell De-lay. She married S.L. "Boots" Bultman and he preceded her in death.
Survivors include her son, Jim and Marsha Bultman of Osgood; grandsons, Bradley and David Bultman of Osgood; nephew, William Aikins of Durham, NC; great niece, Melissa B. Paty of Nashville, TN; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
Mrs. Bultman lived in Os-good for over ninety years. She worked in the Post Of-fice and Farm Bureau as a young woman. She, along with her husband, were co-owners of the Dunbar and Bultman Dairy and the Dairy Barn Restaurant in Osgood and Bultman Blacktopping, Inc. She was a lifelong member of the Osgood United Methodist Church and served as treasurer. She was also a member of Eastern Star and Osgood Versailles Tri Kappa.
Funeral services are being held today, Thursday, July 12 at the Osgood United Methodist Church at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be at the Cliff Hill Cemetery in Versailles. Memorials may go to the Osgood United Methodist Church. Neal’s Funeral Home in Osgood was in charge of ar-rangements.

Sarah I. Moeller, 93, of Hamburg, passed away Sun-day, July 8, 2007. Funeral services are being held today, Thursday, July 12 at St. Anne’s Church in Hamburg. Weigel Funeral Home in Batesville was in charge of arrangements.

Betty J. Davies

Betty J. Davies, age 81, of Dillsboro, died Friday, July 6, 2007 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Edgewood, KY. She was born February 13, 1926 in Switzerland County the daughter of John Perkins and Jessie Leep Perkins.
Following high school she attended college for one year to become a nurse’s aide. In 1941 she married Denver F. Davies and he preceded her in death on August 1, 2000. Betty was employed for several years at the Franklin Masonic Home as a nurse’s aide. She was an active member of Bear Creek Baptist Church in Friendship. She was known as a caregiver and a helping person to anyone who asked for her help.
She is survived by one son, Denver (Carol) Lynn Davies of Dillsboro; seven grandchildren, John, Daren, Brett, Belinda, Terri, Bonnie and Sheana; and one brother, John Perkins. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Denver, and one son, John Franklin Davies.
Funeral services were held Monday, July 9, at Ulrich-Filter-DeVries Funeral Home for close friends and family only. Interment followed at St. Peter Lutheran Church Cemetery in Olean. Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society.

Bennie Thomas, Jr., 79, of New Point, passed away on Monday, July 2, 2007, at Kindred Hospital in Greenwood. He was born in 1928 in Whitesburg, KY. Fu-neral services are being held on Friday, July 6, at 11 a.m. at the New Point Christian Church. Burial will be in the Rossburg Cemetery in New Point. Meyers Funeral Home in Batesville was in charge of arrangements.

Esther G. Benning
Esther G. Benning, 99, of Farmers Retreat, died Sunday, July 1, 2007, at the Waters of Dillsboro Manor. She was born on February 12, 1908 in Caesar Creek Township, the daughter of William and Anna Hueseman Grelle. She married Harland Benning in 1942 and he preceded her in death in 1998.
Survivors include two sons, Dean William Benning and Richard Allen (Vera) Benning, both of Farmers Retreat; 6 grandchildren, Heather Ann Benning Rump, Michael Lawhorn, Beth Weaver, Pamela Davies, Amy Fryman, and Kimberly Wesemann; 11 great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren.
Mrs. Benning was a retired secretary for Johnson Electric in Cincinnati and retired from IRS.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 6, at 11:00 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Farmers Retreat. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 5-8 p.m. at Ulrich-Filter-DeVries Funeral Home in Dillsboro. Memorials may be given to Alzheimer’s Foundation or to Friendship Fire Department.

Kash O. Lewis
Kash O. Lewis, 83, of Milan, passed away on Tuesday, June 26, 2007, at Dearborn County Hospital, in Lawrenceburg. He was born on November 1, 1923, near Milan, the son of Edward and Florence (Rose) Lewis. He was married to Katherine Julia Kissinger on November 18, 1944, and she preceded him in death on October 3, 1993.
Survivors include four sons, Edward L. (Darlene) Lewis, Kenneth C. (Anna) Lewis, Wayne P. (Leeann) Lewis, and Alan K. (Peggy) Lewis, all of Milan; one brother, John Arnold (Billie) Lewis of Milan; grandchildren, James, Scott, John, Jennifer, Katie, David Lewis, and Tonya Eddison; and five great grandchildren; special friends, Ruth Bischoff and son Roger of St. Leon. He was preceded in death by six brothers, Clarence, Floyd, Earl, Estile, Prentice, and Marvin Lewis and one sister.
Mr. Lewis drove school bus #7 for Milan Schools for 22 years; was a retired dairy farmer near Milan for many years. He also had worked as a foreman for the Indiana State Highway Department, Milan Feed and Grain, Milan Furniture Factory, Aluminum Industries, and picked up canned milk for dairy farmers in the area for many years.
Funeral services will be on Saturday, June 30, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. at the Osgood First Baptist Church, with Rev. Donald Buck, Lewis C. Garrett, and Robert Miller officiating. Burial will be at the Craven Cemetery in Milan. Visitation will be on Friday from 7-9 p.m. at Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home in Milan. There will also be a visitation service two hours prior to services on Saturday at the Church. Memorials may be given to the Kash Lewis Scholarship Fund through Milan High School for agriculture scholarhships.

Albert H. Harmeyer

Albert H. Harmeyer, 91, of St. Marys, passed away on Monday, June 25, 2007, at Hospitality Hall in Batesville. He was born on August 19, 1915.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, June 27. Burial was in the St. Marys Cemetery in St. Marys. Memorials may be given to the Building Fund of St. Marys Church and given for Masses. Cook Funeral Home of Sunman assisted the family with all arrangements.

Kathleen Hines
Kathleen Hines, 78, of Versailles, passed away on Monday, June 25, 2007, at the King’s Daughters’ Hospital in Madison. She was born at Hazard, KY, on July 14, 1928, the daughter of Henry and Millie Stacy. She married Edward Hines on December 2, 1969 and he survives.
Other survivors include five sons, Corbin Eversole and his wife Ernestine of Oxford, MI, Roger and Valerie Eversole of Clarkston, MI, Kenneth and Crystal Eversole of Canton, MI, Michael and Cindy Eversole of Highland, MI, and Jesse Eversole of Versailles; two daughters, Mary Lueck of White Lake, MI, and Kathy Eversole-Butcher and her husband Dan of Celebration, FL; step-sons Edward Hines III of Munising, MI, and Larry Hines of Texas; and step-daughter Cathy Hines of Grand Rapids, MI. She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Helen Eversole, sons William and Ernest Ray Eversole, and step-daughter Laura Hines.
Mrs. Hines was a homemaker.
Funeral services will be held today, Thursday, June 28, at 1 p.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Minister Randy Thieman of the Shelby Christian Church officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, from 11:00 a.m. until time of services. Burial will be in the Benham Cemetery.

Christine (Bessie) Sanders Weaver
Christine (Bessie) Sanders Weaver, 84, passed away Wednesday, May 16, 2007 at her daughter’s residence in Arizona. Her ashes are being returned for burial in Cliff Hill Cemetery in Versailles.
She was born on October 5, 1922, in Waynesburg, KY. She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Lula Sanders; son, Robert Weaver; and sister Mary Jewell Lay. She is survived by her daughter Geri and Donald Davis of Chandler, AZ; her sons David and Kenna Weaver and Raymond Weaver of Versailles; her daughter-in-law Maureen Weaver of Pheonix, AZ; 12 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Lillian Jacob, Lou Ellen Geabes, Dorothy Burris and brother, Raymond Sanders, Jr.
One June 30, 2007 our loving sister, mother and grandmother will have grave site visitation at 11:00 a.m. followed by burial services at 12:00 p.m. at Cliff Hill Cemetery in Versailles.

Helen E. Filter, 91, of Cincinnati, OH, passed away on Monday, June 18, 2007, at West Park Retirement Village in Cincinnati. She was born on Thursday, May 25, 1916 in Cincinnati the daughter of Elmer and Laura Lanvermeyer Henschen. She was married to Otto H. Filter and he passed away on June 11, 2000.

Ryan Alan Stevenson
Ryan Alan Stevenson, 30, of Indianapolis, passed away Tuesday, June 12, 2007 at his residence. He was born in Fresno, California on October 13, 1976 the son of Chuck and Barbara Stratton Stevenson. Survivors include his parents of Indianapolis; brothers Craig Stevenson and Michael Stevenson; sister Michele Countryman and her husband Mark; nieces Ruby Countryman, Eleanor Countryman, and Lauren Stevenson and nephew Wesley Countryman all of Indianapolis; paternal grandmother Martha Stevenson of Half Moon Valley, California; and maternal step-grandmother Carol Stratton of Holton.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather Chuck Stevenson, Sr. and his maternal grandparents Leslie and Ruby Stratton.
Mr. Stevenson was a 1995 graduate of Lawrence Central High School and was currently working on a nursing degree at IUPUI. He was employed with Moe and Johnny’s in Broad Ripple.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 16 at 1 p.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Rev. Charles Cole officiating. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time of services. There will also be visitation on Friday from 5-8 p.m. at Stevens Mortuary, 5520 W. 10th St. in Indianapolis.
Burial will be in the Dabney Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife (C.R.O.W.) at Sanibel Island, Florida or the Dabney Cemetery in care of the funeral home.

 

Jennings W. Draut
Jennings W. Draut, 88, of Versailles, formerly of Milan passed away Wednesday, June 13, 2007 at the Ripley Crossing Nursing Home in Milan. He was born at Manchester on September 9, 1918 the son of Frank W. and Lula Harves Draut. He was married to Truly Schmidt on June 9, 1945, at the St. John Lutheran Church in Napoleon, and she survives.
Mr. Draut was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Omar and Howard; sisters Leona Bohmer and Mildred Montgomery.
Mr. Draut was a former owner of the Jennings Station and Lunch Room in Penntown, a farmer and a truck driver for Versailles Dunbrik. He was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Olean.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 16 at 11am at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Olean with Rev. Marcus Felde officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00 am until the time of service at the church. Burial will be in the St. Peter’s Lutheran Cemetery.

Thomas J. Shade
Thomas J. Shade, 76, of Versailles passed away Monday, June 11, 2007, at Margaret Mary Community Hospital in Batesville after a lengthy illness. The son of Rudolph and Annemarie (Huneke) Shade, Tom was born on April 21, 1931, in Indianapolis. He married Lila Lostutter Halcomb on October 22, 1955, and she survives.
Other survivors include one daughter Jackie and her husband Lee Benham of Scottsburg and one son Steve and his wife Donna (Shook) of Trinity, NC; two grandsons, Adam and William Shade, and one granddaughter Elizabeth (Benham) Warren and husband Iven of New Albany; two sisters, Irene Squires of Rye, NH, and Emily Voss of Milan; one brother William (Bill) Shade of Gettysburg, PA; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Shade was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Dick Shade, his sister Marie Baker and her husband Daren Baker, and his brother in law Henry (Hank) Voss.
A graduate of Versailles High School in the Class of 1949, Tom served in the United States Army from August 1949 until January 1952, spending 16 months and participating in six battle campaigns in Korea. Following his service to his country, Tom began a 27 year career in Civil Service that took him to various locations in several states. Although much of his time was spent at the Jefferson Proving Ground, he also had a contract management position with NASA at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
After his retirement from government work in 1976, Mr. Shade began traveling for a foundry company, selling supplies in Indiana, Kentucky, Illinois, Ohio, and West Virginia. He retired for the final time on December 31, 1990.
For many years Tom and Lila spent their winters in Leesburg, FL, where among other activities he enjoyed singing in a barbershop chorus. He continued that activity in this area by becoming a member of the Tri-County Harmonizers until his health deteriorated several months ago.
A member of the Versailles Baptist Church, Mr. Shade participated in the adult choir and was an ordained deacon. He also belonged to the American Legion and was a 27-year member of the Versailles Lion Club.
Visitation will be at Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles today, June 14 from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the Versailles Baptist Church on Friday, June 15 at 11:00 a.m. Memorials may be given to the Versailles Baptist Church or the donor’s choice.

Marie Angela Watson
Marie Angela Watson, 81, of Osgood, passed away Sunday, June 3, 2007 at Ripley Crossing in Milan. She was born February 27, 1926 in Poland, the daughter of Martinus and Teresa Jagra Zubiel. She married Clifton Watson on August 4, 1948 and he preceded her in death in May of 1977.
Other survivors include many friends. She was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters.
Mrs. Watson was a past employee of Delanie Heel factory in Versailles and of Jac-Cen-Del High School cafeteria as a part time cook. She was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Osgood.
Funeral services are being held today, June 7, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Osgood at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be in the Church Cemetery. Arrangements were made by Neal’s Funeral Home in Osgood. Memorials may go to the St. John’s Building Fund or Masses.

Frederick R. Meier
Frederick R. Meier, 83, of Cross Plains, passed away Sun-day, May 27, 2007 at the Health Central Hospital in Ocoee, Florida. He was born at Milton, Kentucky on October 24, 1923, the son of William and Edith Smith Meier. He was married to Glendora Burman on November 27, 1971 and she survives.
Other survivors include one stepson Rick Thomas and his wife Kathy of Windermere, FL; one stepdaughter Sandra Zaccagnini and her husband Phil of Orlando, FL; 8 grandchildren; two sisters, Kathryn Smith of Cross Plains and Jeannette Oatman of Hillsborough, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters Hildegard Herring and Wilma Meyer.
Mr. Meier was a 1942 gradu-ate of Cross Plains High School. He was an Army veteran of WWII where he served as a tank driver with the Third Armored Division in the European Theater. He was a farmer, had formerly driven a school bus for the Cross Plains Schools, and served as a mail carrier for 23 years for the Cross Plains post office.
Mr. Meier was a member of the Zion New Life Lutheran Church in Gotha, FL and a for-mer member of St. Paul’s Lu-theran Church in Dewberry. He also belonged to the Brown Township American Legion and the Florida Chapter of the Third Armored Division.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 2 at 10:30 am at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Dewberry with Pastor Paul Foust of the Zion New Life Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military graveside rites by the Brown Township American Legion. Visitation will be Friday from 5pm to 8pm at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles.
Memorials may be given to the Zion New Life Lutheran Church or St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in care of the funeral home.

Alfred A. Schmidt
Alfred A. Schmidt, 78, of Aurora, died Tuesday, May 29, 2007 at the Woodland Hills Care Center in Lawrenceburg. He was born December 29, 1928 in Aurora, the son of Andrew Schmidt and Martha Richards, both deceased.
Several nieces and nephews survive him.
Mr. Schmidt was a tax ac-countant for the IRS. He served four years in the Air Force during the Korean War.
Visitation will be held Fri-day, June 1, 10:30 to 12 noon at the Filter-DeVries Funeral home, Aurora. Funeral services will begin at 12 noon on Friday, June 1 with burial to follow in the Riverview Cemetery, Aurora.

Vivian Vanosdol
Vivian Vanosdol, 77, of Benham, passed away Monday, May 28, 2007 at the Margaret Mary Community Hospital in Batesville. She was born near Hick’s Ridge in southern Ripley County on November 30, 1929. She is the daughter of Roy and Mildred Jarvis Darringer. She was married to Raymond Vanosdol on March 26, 1949, and he preceded her in death on May 22, 1995.
Other survivors include two sons, Leroy Vanosdol and his wife Mary and Leland Vanosdol and his wife Jeannette all of Benham; one daughter Donna Wagner and her husband Kenneth of Osgood; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and one brother Donald Darringer of Plainfield. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Harvey, her sister Rosemary, and her great-grandson Keith Weise.
Mrs. Vanosdol was a 1947 graduate of Cross Plains High School and was a member of the Shelby Christian Church. She was a homemaker and had been employed with Berkel Scales in Versailles and also with the Versailles Senior Center.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 31 at 1:00 p.m. at the Shelby Christian Church with Brother Randy Thieman officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Memorials may be given to the Shelby Cemetery in care of the funeral home.

Robert L. Hummel
Robert L. Hummel, 63, of Moores Hill, died Tuesday, May 29, 2007 at his residence. He was born October 14, 1943 in Cincinnati, the son of William Hummel and Rosella Schwab, both deceased. He married Charlotte Hummel and she survives.
Other survivors include one son, Andy and wife Beth Hummel of Moores Hill; two daughters, Kathy Seymour of Aurora and Christie and husband Todd Spaulding of Strongville, OH; three brothers, Bill, Joe and George Hummel and six grandchildren, Robby and Tara Tiettmeyer, Tyler and Hayden Hummel, Taylor and Zachary Spaulding.
Mr. Hummel was a facility engineer at Anchor Glass.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 2, 11 a.m. at the Oakdale Cemetery in Dillsboro.

Pearl Cox
Pearl Cox, 77, of Holton passed away Tuesday, May 22, 2007 at her home. She was born near Dillsboro on December 20, 1929 the daughter of Elmer and Goldie Quire Thompson. She was married to Delmar Cox on November 18, 1950 and he survives.
Other survivors include one son Doug Cox and his wife Myrna of Holton; grandson Chris Cox and friend Misty Haggard of Versailles; granddaughter Kassey Cox of Holton; great-grandson Gabriel Cox of Versailles; and brother Charles Thompson of North Vernon.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother George Thompson.
Mrs. Cox was a 1947 graduate of Holton High School and attended the Indianapolis School of Business. She was the longest living member of the Holton Christian Church and also was a 59-year member of the Holton and Versailles Eastern Star Chapters. She had also served as a District Deputy in the Eastern Star.
Funeral services will be held Friday, May 25 at 11:00 a.m. at the Holton Christian Church with Bro. Bob McCreary officiating. Burial will be in the Holton West Cemetery. Ruth A. Mathis, 75, of Versailles passed away Tuesday, May 22, 2007 at the Margaret Mary Community Hospital in Batesville. She was born at Manchester, Kentucky on February 2, 1932 the daughter of Robert and Della Sizemore Lovins. She was married to Raleigh Mathis and he survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Wayne Mathis of Versailles and Troy Mathis and his wife Karol of Cross Plains; three daughters Lattie Hon and her husband Danny of Holton, Geneva "Jill" Carr and Paul of Versailles, and Barbara and Don Disbro of Olean; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Ben Lovins, Charles Lovins, and Ferris Lovins all of Manchester, Kentucky; one sister Brenda Lovins also of Manchester.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her son Ernest Mathis.
Mrs. Mathis was a homemaker and enjoyed singing and playing the guitar.

Sharon A. Klusman, 53, of Seymour, passed away Wednesday, May 23, 2007 at the Hospice of South Central Indiana in Columbus. She was born at Milan on March 19, 1954 the daughter of Earl and Ima Jean Park Cox. She was married to Nick Klusman on March 29, 1980 and he survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Nicholas A. Klusman and Christopher Klusman both of Seymour; her mother Mrs. Ima Jean Cox of Osgood; one brother Anthony Cox of Osgood; three sisters, Cheryl White and Carolyn Rudolph both of Versailles and Pam Johnson of Osgood. She was preceded in death by her father.
Mrs. Klusman was a 1972 graduate of Jac-Cen-Del High School. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Columbus and had worked as an LPN for 31 years at Columbus Regional Hospital.

Marvin Jeral Gilpin, Sr.
Marvin Jeral "Marv" Gilpin, Sr., 71, of Kalamazoo, Michi-gan, formerly of Ripley County, died Sunday, May 13, 2007 at Margaret Mary Community Hospital, Batesville. He was born May 16, 1935 in Monrovia, the son of Choice and Izora Davis Gilpin, both deceased. He married Janice Peak Gilpin on September 10, 1954 at the Dab-ney Baptist Church and she sur-vives.
Other survivors include daughter, Marsha Bowker and husband Jim of Augusta, MI., sons Marvin Jeral "Jerry" Gilpin Jr., and wife Natalie of Versailles, Mike Gilpin and wife Michele of Three Rivers, MI., three sisters, Carol Frye and husband, Richard of Morrow, OH, Barb Souslin and husband Roger of Johnstown, OH, Patty Williams and husband Jim of St. Charles, MO., two brothers, Ray Gilpin and wife Connie of Pick-erington, OH, Ron Gilpin and wife Paula of Georgetown, KY, grandchildren, Bryan and Lisa Gilpin, Staci and Matt Trapp, John Gilpin, Olivia Gilpin, Jessie and Mike McClain, Alli-son Gilpin, Emily Gilpin, Marie Bowker, Scott Bowker, great grandson Drew McClain and several nieces and nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by stepfather Orville Goodwin.
Mr. Gilpin was raised in the Holton community and was a 1953 graduate of Holton High School. He moved to Toledo in 1959 and had attended the Toledo University. He was em-ployed with Consolidated Pack-aging as a sales manager for thirty years in Michigan and re-tired after 5 years of service as sales manager for Plymouth Packaging. He attended Dabney Baptist Church earlier in his life.
Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family with Mrs. Joyce Taylor and Pastor David Shivers officiating. Burial will be in the Cliff Hill Cemetery.

Lee R. Tucker

Lee R. Tucker, 79, of Holton passed away Wednesday, May 16, 2007 at his home. He was born in the Flat Rock community near Osgood on February 10, 1928 the son of Lester and Daisy Hull Tucker.
Survivors include one brother Ray Tucker and his wife Marian of Dabney; three sisters, Hertha Jones of Holton, Joan Krall and her husband Norris of Osgood, and Bonnie Smith and her husband Edwin of Salem, IL, along with several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister Beulah Adams.
Mr. Tucker was a 1947 graduate of Holton High School. He was a retired jeweler having operated a jewelry business in Brownsburg and with his uncle operated Tucker’s Jewelry Store in Osgood as well as a watch re-pair business from his home. He had also served as a retired rural mail carrier and assistant Postmaster at Holton. Mr. Tucker was a member of the Dabney Baptist Church where he served many years as church treasurer.
Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family with Rev. Charles Cole of the Dabney Baptist Church officiating.

Neva J. Snider

Neva J. Snider, 90, of Ander-son, passed away Tuesday, May 15, 2007 at St. John’s Medical Center. She was born September 14, 1916 in Holton, the daughter of William and Madge (Ensminger) McNeelan. She graduated in 1934 from Holton High School and moved to An-derson in 1938 after marrying William E. Baker. Mr. Baker preceded her in death in 1952 and she later married Walter "Bill" Snider and he survives.
She graduated from Central Normal College and Ball State University. She taught school in Chesterfield and in the Anderson Community School system, retiring in 1977. Locally she taught at Dabney.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Versailles Eastern Star. She enjoyed playing golf and was a member of the Women’s Golf League at both Grandview and Killbuck Golf Courses.
She is survived by sons, Gary and wife Sharon Baker and Dennis and wife Cheryl Baker all of Anderson; grandchildren, Cindy and husband Jeff Lamp of Osceola, Jennifer and husband Charley Williamson of Greenfield, William Baker of Anderson, Don and wife Carla Miller of Avon, Kristin and husband Sean Brady of Westfield and Ryan Baker of Anderson, 13 grandchildren, sister Genevieve and husband Robert Curry of North Vernon, brother William McNeelan, Jr. and wife Mary Jane of Holton and several nieces and nephews.
Her brother Martin McNee-lan preceded her in death.
Services will be conducted at noon on Saturday, May 19 at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Home with Dr. Derek Weber officiating. Burial will follow at the Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday, May 18, 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Winston E. Meyer, 64, of Dillsboro, passed away Monday, May 7, 2007 at University Hospital, Cincinnati, OH. He was born March 11, 1943 in Cincinnati the son of Winston and Wilhelmine Mayerhofer Meyer, both deceased. He married Janet Meyer and she preceded him in death.
Survivors include daughter Cindy Meyer of Cincinnati, OH; son Winston E. Meyer, III of Cincinnati, OH; daughter-in-law Kim Dring of Cincinnati, OH; grandchildren Nathan, Andrew, Mariah and Alayna.
Mr. Meyer was an electrician. He was a member of the Cedars of Lebanon Church in Dillsboro.
Visitation will be Friday, May 11 from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. at the Ulrich Filter DeVries Funeral Home in Dillsboro. Funeral services will immediately follow at 12:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Oakdale Cemetery, Dillsboro.

Arthur Wyatt Wells
Arthur Wyatt Wells, 17, of Hickory Valley, TN, died Monday, April 23, 2007 at Bolivar General Hospital. He was born August 19, 1989 in Memphis, TN, the son of Alan and Trina DeHaas Wells of Hickory Valley and they survive.
Survivors also include sisters Rebecca and Rachael Wells and brother Alex Wells all of Hickory Valley, TN; maternal grandparents William and Patricia DeHaas of Moores Hill and paternal grandfather, Fred Wells of Jackson, TN; cousins Stephanie Jacobs; Craig, Sarah and Zach Gorman; Kenny, Grant and Amy Eaton; aunts and uncles Kim and Chuck Jones, Steve and Cathy Gorman, and Bill and Julie Eaton.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Julia C. Wells.
Mr. Wells was a home school student in his third year of high school at Gateway Christian and was very active at Abundant Life Christian Fellowship. He was also a member of the 4-H Club where he was a state officer. Mr. Wells was an Eagle Scout, enjoyed hunting and sports, especially the New England Patriots, and was an avid reader. His family stated that he was very friendly and big-hearted.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, May 12 at Noon at the Shelby Christian Church Cemetery near Versailles. Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
