Indians secure victory over Chargers before heading to the RCA Dome

Gary Franklin - Sports Editor
Of the first four regular season varsity football games this season, the Indians were unable to quite get over the hump, including a couple of close encounters. However, the Milan Indian varsity football team managed to "git 'r dun" at North Decatur against the Chargers last Friday night, September 14.
The Indians played on the road to a tune of a 28-15 win. The score by the end of the first quarter remained as it had began, game dead even at 0-0.
'Wham-Bam, Katie bar the door', the Indians came to life. By halftime break the Indians found themselves in the so called 'tall cotton', leading by the score of 28-7.
The Indians failed to add to their lead in the third quarter, but the Chargers managed to add 8, leaving a 13 point deficit going into the fourth and final quarter of regulation play at 15-28 Indians.
The fourth quarter of play remained scoreless for both teams, leaving the final at Milan 28-15 North Decatur, earning the Indians their first regular season victory.
The next Milan Indian varsity football encounter will take place at the Indianapolis RCA Dome, this Saturday afternoon, September 22, at 1:45 PM. The tribe will there engage battle against Indian Creek High School.
Tickets are available from MHS and will be available at the volleyball game this Thursday night, September 20, for $10.00. The price will be $12.00 at the gate.
The Indians stand at 1-4. Their earlier losses were to:
Northeastern Knights 14-13
Batesville Bulldogs 20-0
Lawrenceburg Tigers 20-11
Park Tudor Panthers 21-15
With any kind of luck, the Indians could very easily be 4-1 this season and have hopes of bettering their record as the season progresses.
Coach Langferman and his coaching staff find themselves right on the edge of making a positive season with this group of young men. A play or two in each game has made dramatic differences to the outcomes.
The Indians are scheduled to have a practice session in the Dome on Thursday evening. The band will be accompanying the Indians on Saturday for their afternoon game with Indian Creek.
