2007 Pumpkin Show cheerleader competition
lively and well attended


Entertaining to say the least, the cheer squads of six high schools participated in the Annual Pumpkin Show event on Saturday afternoon, on the square of Versailles.

Represented were the New Washington High School Squad, the South Dearborn Squad, the Switzerland County Squad, the East Central Squad, the Milan High School Squad and the hometown South Ripley Squad. Judges came from Hanover College to call the event.

Winning first place were the Lady Trojan Cheer Squad of East Central.
Second place trophy was won by the Milan Lady Indian cheer squad and the South Ripley Lady Raiders captured the third place trophy.

All teams put on strong routines and kept the crowds' eyes glued to them as they performed.

Pictured above, the Lady Raider Jr. High cheerleader squad finishes up their Pumpkin Show performance. The girls performed to excellence before the crowd of Pumpkin Show spectators on the Versailles Square on Saturday, September 29. They had no competition to cheer against them, but that didn't hinder their performance. The girls performed expertly and were deserving of the first place trophy presented to them.


Jac-Cen-Del Eagle soccer team avoids defeat

Only able to play to a 1-1 tie at the end of the first half of soccer action at Waldron High School, the Eagles sprang to life in the second period. The game was played on Friday, September 21.
By games end, the Eagles had gained a commanding 5-1 score to earn themselves an overall season record of 10-3. Their ORVC record advanced to 7-2.
Key plays for the Eagles were two goals and an assist by David Busch, A goal and an assist by Jeremy Wagner, A goal and an assist by Brandon Wilhoit, a goal and an assist by Steven Douglas and an assist apiece to Brock Billman and Trevor Arnett.
Eagles vs Hilltoppers results
On Monday, September 24, the Eagles defended the home turf with a 1-0 victory over the Madison Shawe Hilltoppers, to move their overall season record to 11-3 and 8-2 in ORVC standing.
Steven Douglas scored the winning goal for the Eagles and David Busch was credited with the assist. Shane Adams recorded his sixth shutout as goalkeeper for the Eagles which tied the schools record.
Credited with positive defensive contributions for an Eagle victory were Joe Rangel, Gerald Hardesty, Eric Horan and Jeremy Wagner. Coach Mark Jones acknowledged the extra effort given by these players in his comments about the game.
Eagles vs Rebels win for a tie
On Wednesday, September 26, the Eagles were slated to defend their home field against the ORVC first place standing team, Southwestern Hanover Rebels. The game was postponed because of rain, and moved to Thursday, September 27. Senior night for the Eagles, though played on the practice field, resulted in an Eagle victory. The Eagles and Rebels were tied 1-1 at the half, with the Eagles winning in a shoot out where all five of their shooters scored. Shooting for the Eagles were Steven Douglas, David Busch, Jeremy Wagner, Brock Billman and Kellen Stolze.
Steven Douglas scored the first half goal, assisted by Josh Forbes, to force the shootout finale. Kellen Stolze, Eric Horan, Gerald Hardesty, Joe Rangel and Jeremy were praised by Coach Jones for their defensive efforts.
Coed Eagles vs Raider Boys
On Friday, September 28, the Eagles and Raiders were aligned for a rival match. The Raider boys' season has had much success and the coed Eagles were only defeated by the Raiders by one point earlier in the year A Raider penalty required many of their senior players to miss the game with others only eligible to play half of it.
The game had its normal tension and determination from each teams members to win, regardless of all other circumstances surrounding the game. The regulation period of the game ended in a 2-2 tie requiring a shootout finale to establish a winner.
In regular game play, Kile Huss defended the SR goal and Shane Adams handled the job for the Eagles. However, in the shootout, Raider Coach Matt Obendorf selected Kyle Taylor to go in to defend as the Raider goal keeper, and the Eagles continued with Adams for their defense.
Steven Douglas scored the first goal for the Eagles with Gerald Hardesty heading a shot in to get their second point during regulation play.
Raider goals came from Jake Waldron and Dylan Underwood. with an assist by Waldron and Daniel Fix. Shootout scoring by SR was from Abel Everage and Jake Waldron.
