Michael M. Powers
Michael M. Powers, 79, Greensburg, passed away
on Friday, February 22, 2008 at Hickory Creek Nursing Home
in Greensburg. He was born, November 19, 1928 in Ripley Co.,
Indiana the son of Mike and Hattie (Beatty) Powers. He married
Edna Mae Forwalt on August 6, 1966 and she preceded him in
death on March 6, 1992.
Survivors include one son, Clarence M. Powers, Greensburg,
one daughter; Patricia Stuehrenberg, Greensburg; one brother;
Melvin Powers, Napoleon, one sister; Margaret Benz, Greensburg;
4 grandchildren; Nicholas Powers, Michelle Powers, Angela
Scudder, Garrett Kieffer; 6 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, five brothers,
Glen, Thomas, Phillip, Willard and Paul Powers; four sisters;
Gladys Owens, Ruth Benham, Dorothy Powers Miers and Helena
Miers.
He was retired as a veneer timber buyer. He was a member of
the Trinity Baptist Church and the American Legion Post 129.
He was a veteran of the Navy serving in the Korean War.
Funeral services are being held at 10 a.m. today, Tuesday,
at the Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home in Greensburg with
Rev. Dan Selby officiating. Interment will be held at the
Union Flat Rock Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American
Cancer Society. Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home in Greensburg
is in charge of arrangements.
John E. Lohrum
John E. Lohrum, 76, of Versailles, passed away
Wednesday, February 20, 2008 at the Good Samaritan Hospital
in Cincinnati. He was born near Elrod on January 16, 1932
the son of Albert and Eunice Rogers Lohrum. He married Frances
M. Hankins on June 22, 1951 and she survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Johnnie (Helen) Lohrum and
Ronnie (Linda) Lohrum both of Osgood; two daughters, Nina
May (Ron) McGill of Montgomery, Indiana and Rebecca (Doug)
Hisel of Lexington, Kentucky; two brothers, Vic Lohrum and
Carroll (Judy) Lohrum both of Elrod; two sisters, Linda (Merrill)
Bruce of Versailles and Alice (Donny) Mathias of Dillsboro;
14 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Albert
(Red) Lohrum.
Mr. Lohrum was a 1950 graduate of Versailles High School.
He was a 36 year employee of Texas Gas where he worked and
an A operator and also a clerk. He was a member of the Versailles
First Southern Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held Saturday, February 23 at 11:00
a.m. at Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home, Versailles with Rev.
Carter Corbey officiating. Burial followed in the Grandview
Memorial Garden near Madison.
Memorials may be given to the food pantry of the Hopewell
Baptist church in care of the funeral home.

Raymond Robert Bergman
Raymond Robert Bergman, 76, of Batesville,
passed away Wednesday, February 20, 2008 at Margaret Mary
Hospital in Batesville. He was born on January 9, 1932 near
Milan, the son of the late Edward & Dorothy (Behlmer)Bergman.
He married Elaine Berg on April 23, 1955 at Batesville United
Methodist Church.
Mr. Bergman is survived by his wife, daughters Renee (Michael)
Ramig of Milan, and Raynell (David) Smith of Sunman; grandchildren
Joshua Ludeker, Daniel Raymond Smith, Nicole, Eric and Ashley
Ramig; great grandchildren Olivia & Aiden Ludeker; brothers
Donald Bergman of Muncie, and Kenneth Bergman of Milan; sisters
Mildred Huneke of Osgood, Phyllis Rhodes of Noblesville, and
Joan Hehe of Saltilo, TN. In addition to his parents, he was
preceded in death by his grandson Jeremiah Ludeker.
He was former owner-operator of Bergman Store in Pierceville,
and also farmed on his own farm. He was a 1950 graduate of
Milan High School & a US Army Veteran of Korea. He was
a member of St. Peter United Church of Christ "Finks"
and he was former Sunday school superintendent.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Feb. 23. Burial was
in St. Peter Church Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the
St. Peter Building Fund. Meyers Funeral Home in Batesville

Linnie Jobst
Linnie Jobst, 70, of Sunman, passed away on
Saturday, February 23, 2008 at Margaret Mary Hospital in Batesville.
She was born on April 21, 1937, in Kentucky, the daughter
of John and Rosie (Parnell) Watts. She married Franklin Delano
Jobst on Feb. 5, 1960 and he preceded her in death on Nov.
1, 1981.
Survivors include three daughters: Peggy (David) Matson of
New Palestine, Katherine (Dennis) Ortt of Sunman and Rosemary
Jobst Duvall of Sunman; three sisters: Julie Grossman of Batesville,
Della Mae Smith of Friendship and Orpha Clagg of Florida;
and five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents,
husband and three brothers.
Mrs. Jobst was a farmer and a member of the St. Paul Lutheran
Church at Stumpkes Corner. She enjoyed farming and working
with flowers, watching birds, and caring for animals.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Feb. 28 at 11 a.m.
at the St. Paul Lutheran Church at Stumpkes Corner with
Pastor Richard Mackey officiating. Burial will be in the St.
Paul Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on
Wednesday at Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home in Milan. Memorials
may be given to the Ripley County Humane Society or St. Paul
Lutheran Church.

Eli Stover, Jr.
Eli Stover, Jr., 58, of Holton, passed away
on Thursday, February 21, 2008. He was born on August 10,
1949 on the Pine Ridge Reservation, SD. He is the son of Eli
H. and Martha Wilcox Stover.
Survivors include partner in life, Marilyn; one son, Eli (Junior)
Stover; family members: Carrie Tackett, Bob Tackett, Brooke,
Brittany, Brandon and Brett; sisters: Betty Marks, Beverly
Hendrix and Janis Jones; brother: Dave Stover and numerous
other family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Thomas
Stover.
Mr. Stover was a member of the Oglala Sioux Indian tribe and
was loved by all.
Traditional burial services were provided by his tribe in
the Black Hills National Cemetery on his mothers reservation,
Rosebud, in South Dakota.

John B. Whisman, 70, of Columbus, passed away
on Thursday, February 21, 2008. Funeral services were held
on Sunday, Feb. 24. Keeping with Mr. Whismans wishes,

O. Dale Steele
Orval Dale Steele, 78, of Fountaintown
died Sunday, February 17, 2008, at St. Francis Hospital and
Health Centers in Indianapolis.
He was born January 30, 1930, in Benham, the son of Basil
Lewis Steele and Eva Fern Welch-Steele. He married Emma Neace
on Nov. 12, 1955, and she preceded him in death on July 14,
2000.
Survivors include one son, Randie Wayde Steele of Shelbyville;
daughter, Tina (Matthew) Huesman of Fairland; brother, Arthur
Steele of Lawrenceburg; sisters, Glady Hayes of Benham and
Joann Brinson of Versailles; grandchildren, Misty Dawn Steele,
Randie Dale Steele, Crystal Huesman and Alisha Huesman; and
great-grandchildren, Lacie Allen and Emalee Allen.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Albert
Steele and Russell Steele; and sister, Reta Demaree.
Mr. Steele had been employed at Naval Avionics for 33 years,
retiring in 1985 as a fire control engineer.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and a member
of Pleasant View Baptist Church.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Murphy-Parks
Funeral Service, 703 S. Harrison St., Shelbyville.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral
home with burial in the New Palestine Cemetery.

George Edward Heffelmire
George Edward Heffelmire, 85, of Boxley, passed
away on Wednesday, February 13, 2008 at Riverview Hospital
in Noblesville. He was born on December 3, 1922 in Tipton
County, the son of Elmer A. and Ruth (Hinkle) Heffelmire.
He married Norma "Jean" Conaway on March 3, 1947
and she preceded him in death on March 28, 2003.
Survivors include six sons: Ed (Janice) Heffelmire of Cicero,
Brad (Peggy) Heffelmire of Hudson, OH, Joe (Ann) Heffelmire
of Noblesville, Tim (Michelle) Heffelmire of Seminole, FL,
James Heffelmire of Cicero and Phil (Melissa) Heffelmire of
Sheridan; one brother: Clifford Dale Heffelmire of Sheridan;
one sister Clara Ann Minzey of Chattanooga, TN; 13 grandchildren;
three great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and two brothers:
James Frank Heffelmire and Robert Lester Heffelmire.
Mr. Heffelmire graduated from Tipton High School in 1940.
He was a veteran of WWII serving in the US Navy. He was a
farmer and a self employed construction contractor. He was
a member of Boxley United Methodist Church and was a lay pastor
for the church for many years and was an active member of
the Boxley Mens Group.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Feb. 16 at Boxley
United Methodist Church in Boxley. Rev. Joby Carmody and Rev.
Michael Bullick officiated. Burial was in the Boxley Cemetery.

Nicole Lynn Tunny, 23, of Osgood, passed away on Saturday,

Naomi Day, 82, of Milan, passed away on Saturday, February
16, 2008 at Dearborn County Hospital in Lawrenceburg, She
was born on March 20, 1925 at Fagan, Kentucky, the daughter
of Henry and Alta (Poynter) Gross. She married Harley E. Day,
Sr., who preceded her in death in 1987.
Survivors include three sons: Harley Glenn (Karen) Day of
Lawrenceburg, Jack (Marie) Day of Dillsboro and Michael Day
of Cincinnati, OH; three daughters: Patricia Day of Somerset,
KY, Kathy (Barry) Ryan of Milan, and Regina (Steve) McConnell
of Osgood; two sisters: Betty Williams of Mt. Sterling, KY
and Treva Shawnfellow of Seymour; 15 grandchildren, 26 great
grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one grandaughter:
Robin Ascherman, and great great granddaughter Hayden Marie
Day.
Mrs. Day was a homemaker, a member of the Washington Baptist
Church at Elrod, and a member of the Red Hat Society at Ripley
Crossing.
Funeral services are being held today, Tuesday, at 11 a.m.
at Washington Baptist Church in Elrod with Rev. Bruce Fitzsimmons
officiating. Burial will be in the Green Cemetery south of

Anita J. Abrams Hammond, 40, of Versailles, formerly of Madison,
died Friday, February 15, 2008.

Mildred Pearl Nocks
Mildred Pearl Nocks, 89, of Milan, passed away
on Monday, February 11, 2008, at Ripley Crossing in Milan.
She was born on April 21, 1918 in Milan, the daughter of Vernon
and Ruth Ann (Lowe) Daughters. She married Frederick (Jack)
Schuck, John Kelly, and Wilbur "Pete" Nocks, and
they all preceded her in death.
Survivors include two sons: John W. (Tim) Kelly of Milan and
Charles David Kelly of Milan; four daughters: Darlene (Dale)
Grace of Aurora, Susie (Ralph) Williamson of Milan, Nancy
(Bill) Hershman of Milan, and Brenda (Charles) Mowrer of Indianapolis;
one brother: Earl W. McKittrick of Ft. Worth, Texas; three
sisters: Irene Godsey of Lawrenceburg, Jean Conley of Portsmouth,
Ohio, and Polly Craig of Aurora; 13 grandchildren; 30 great
grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son: Paul Frederick (Tug)
Schuck; four brothers: Edward, Milford, Horace and Leroy;
and her three husbands.
Mrs. Nocks graduated from Milan High School in 1936 and was
a member of the Milan First Baptist Church, Milan Ladies Auxiliary,
past president of Schenley Retirees Club, Past pres. of Milan
Community Senior Citizens, past worthy Matron of Eastern Star
and president of Craven Cemetery Association for 35 years.
She was also a member of Moores Hill Senior Citizens, Internationally
Yours, Ripley County Historical Society, and a honorary member
of Helping Hands. She was a volunteer reader at Ripley Crossing,
a past member of Community Action. She wrote a lot of poetry
and helped compile information for the 1954 sesquicentennial.
Funeral services will be private at the convenience of the
family. Minister Rev. Harris Long will be officiating. Visitation
will be held on Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at Laws-Carr-Moore
Funeral Home in Milan. Memorials may be made to the Milan

W. Myrle Rodgers
W. Myrle Rodgers, 88, of Versailles, passed
away on Thursday, February 7, 2008 at Ripley Crossing in Milan.
She was born at Williamstown, Kentucky on March 25, 1919,
the daughter of Jesse and Alice Smith Jacobs. She married
Vincent Rodgers on September 1, 1936 and he preceded her in
death on November 7, 1980.
Survivors include two sons, Ted (Mary Ann) Rodgers of Dillsboro
and David (Faye) Rodgers of Madison; four daughters, Ruth
Ann (Phillip) Powell of Greensburg, June Skeen of Milan, Faye
(Danny) Creigmile of Versailles, and Linda (Ronald) Cunningham
of Aurora; 22 grandchildren; 41 great grandchildren; and 14
great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Andy;
daughter, Myrtle Sue; two grandchildren; five brothers; and
three sisters.
Mrs. Rodgers was a member of the Versailles Wesleyan Church.
She was a former employee of the Delaney Wood Heel Factory,
US Shoe, Aurora Casket Company, and had been a cook at the
Big Wheel Truck Stop near Elrod.
For several years, she and her husband operated the "Rocking
R" ranch at their home near Elrod where they hosted several
horse shows.
Funeral services were held on Monday, February 11, at the
Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Dale Day
and Rev. Garland Rudd officiating. Burial was in the Cliff
Hill Cemetery in Versailles. Memorials may be given to the

Orlie L. Simpson
Orlie L. Simpson, 79, of Milan, passed away
on Thursday, February 7, 2008 at Ripley Crossing at Milan.
He was born on October 31, 1928, at Boydsville, AR, the son
of Charlie Lee and Dewey (Gibbs) Simpson. He married Jean
(Bradberry) Simpson on June 28, 1948 and she survives.
Other survivors include two sons: Larry Simpson of Piggott,
AR and Stephen Simpson of Greensburg; and one brother, Buford
Simpson of Kennett, MO. He was preceded in death by one granddaughter,
Lisa Simpson.
Mr. Simpson was a member of the Sunman Church of Christ and
was an avid coon hunter.
Funeral services were held on Monday, February 11, at Southpark
Cemetery in Greensburg with Carl Burns officiating. Burial
was in the Southpark Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the

Durward D. Warner
Durward D. Warner, 95, of Dillsboro, passed
away on Thursday, February 7, 2008 at Dearborn County Hospital
in Lawrenceburg. He was born on August 22, 1912 in Arrowsmith,
IL, the son of Michael Warner and Cornelia Wainscott. He married
Marjorie (Barnard) Warner and she survives.
Other survivors include one daughter, Barb Scott of Lawrenceburg;
three grandchildren, Kim, Todd and Troy Scott; three great
grandchildren, Ashley, Tyler and Alyssa Scott; and one great
great grandchild, Nathan. He was preceded in death by his
parents and his brother, Lauren Warner.
Mr. Warner was an electrician.
Funeral services were held on Monday, February 11 at Filter-DeVries
Funeral Home in Dillsboro. Burial was in the Oakdale Cemetery,
also in Dillsboro. Memorials may be given to the Dillsboro
Emergency Unit. Arrangements were made by Filter-DeVries Funeral
Home in Dillsboro.
Sylvia C. Fisher
Sylvia C. Fisher, 88, of Osgood and formerly
of Enochsburg, passed away on Tuesday, February 5, 2008 at
Manderley Health Care Center. She was born on August 16, 1919
in Covington, Kentucky, the daughter of Mary (Nee: Anthe)
and Harry Knapp. She married John Fisher on June 28, 1941,
at St. Xavier Church in Cincinnati, OH, and he preceded her
in death.
Survivors include two daughters: Judy Werner of Osgood and
Bonnie Harmeyer of Enochsburg; eight grandchildren and 23
great grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents,
she was preceded in death by her sisters Mildred Parlette
and Virginia Kinstle as well as six great grandchildren.
Mrs. Fisher cooked and helped with housekeeping at Hillenbrand
Industries Jawacdah Farm for many years before retiring.
She was a member of St. Johns Church in Enochsburg.
She enjoyed time with her family and especially having the
grandkids "vacation" with her for several days during
the summer and the tradition of them coming to help bake Christmas
cookies.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, February 9 at St.
Johns Church with Rev. Rob Hankee officiating. Burial
was in the church cemetery. Memorials may be given to the
Manderley Health Care Wish Fund or Hospice of Jennings County.

Ruth A. Shelp
Ruth A. Shelp, 64, of Milan, passed away on
Wednesday, February 6, 2008 at Margaret Mary Hospital in Batesville.
She was born on April 2, 1943 in Cincinnati, Ohio, the daughter
of Orville and Nancy (Alsop) Guard. She married Ronald M.
Shelp who survives.
Other survivors include five daughters: Kathy (David) Shaw
of Versailles, Vera (Jerry) Bearden of Franklin, Dora Price
of Milan, Raye Jean (Mark) Duncan of Holton, and Rhonda Levell
of Milan; one brother: Tom Green of Indianapolis; one step-sister:
Betty Chipman of Aurora; 14 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Mrs. Shelp was a homemaker and was a member and treasurer
for the Cornerstone Baptist Church in Milan. She was an Avon
representative and had been a member of the CB Helping Hands
with the handle of "Needle Nose".
Funeral services are being held today, Tuesday, at 11 a.m.
at Cornerstone Baptist Church in Milan with Pastor Rick Mosley
officiating. Burial will be in the New Craven Cemetery in
Milan. Memorials may be given to the Milan Fire Department

Harry E. Cunningham
Harry E. Cunningham, 87, of Milan, passed away
on Saturday, February 2, 2008, at Margaret Mary Hospital in
Batesville. He was born on September 27, 1920 in Jefferson
County, the son of Hugh and Lora (Rice) Cunningham. He married
Hazel Jackson Cunningham and she survives.
Other survivors include one son: Harry Allen Cunningham of
Casselberry, FL; four daughters: Debbie (Arthur) Thomas of
Cross Plains, Sheila (Jeff) Jackson of Lafayette, Barbara
J. Bowling of Harrison and Treva Cunningham of Shelbyville;
four grandchildren: Kevin (Sarah) Thomas, Amy (Scott) Linkel,
Jeffery Cunningham and Brett (Jill) Cunningham; two great
grandchildren: Brady and Brionna Linkel; brother: Evan (Georgia)
Cunningham of Jeffersonville; sister: Margaret (Ed) Zarger
of Greencastle, PA; sisters-in-law: Mrs. James (Aline) Cunningham,
Mrs. John (Betty) Cunningham, and Mrs. Roger (Marjorie) Cunningham.
He was preceded in death by three brothers: James, John and
Roger Cunningham and one granddaughter, Lisa Simpson.
Mr. Cunningham was a construction journeyman and a 55-year
member of Local 212. He served the country in WWII in the
Army Air Corps in the European Theatre. He was a member of
the Caledonia Presbyterian Church, Local 212 IBEN, Milan American
Legion Post 235, and Duwel Post 7570 VFW Post at Harrison,
Ohio.
Funeral services are being held today, Tuesday, at 11 a.m.

Norman L. Anthony, 64, of North Vernon, passed
away on Wednesday, January 30, 2008. Funeral services were

Herbert Holliday, 78, of Moores Hill, passed
away on Wednesday, January 30, 2008 at Dearborn County Hospital
in Lawrenceburg. He was born on July 21, 1929 in Stacy, Ky.,
the son of Silas and Scaettie (Ritchie) Holliday. He married
Olivette (Peyton) Holliday in April 1959 and she survives.
Other survivors include two sons: James Ernest Holliday and
David Wayne Holliday, both of Moores Hill; and one brother:
Vernon Holliday of Dillsboro. He was preceded in death by
one son, one brother and one sister.
Mr. Holliday was a retired employee of Schenley and a retired
farmer. He was a Korean Army Veteran and a member of the Moores
Hill American Legion Post 209 and was a life member of the
Aurora VFW. Mr. Holliday was a member of the Bee Keepers Association
of Indiana and the National Impala Association.
Funeral services were held at Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home
in Milan on Saturday, February 2 and Rev. Stormy Sherer-Berry
officiated. Burial was in the New Craven Cemetery in Milan
with military gravesite rites by Moores Hill American Legion.
Memorials may be given to the Moores Hill Life Squad. Laws-Carr-Moore
Funeral Home in Milan was in charge of arrangements.
Deborah A. Young
Deborah A. Young, 52, of Osgood, passed away
on Friday, February 1, 2008 at her home. She was born at Greensburg
on January 22, 1956 the daughter of Wallace and Betty Dugle
Shafer. She married Dale Young on September 18, 1976 and he
survives.
Other survivors include three daughters: Lisa (Steve) Ruble
of Connersville, Melissa (Barry) Pavy of Greensburg; and Teresa
Young of Osgood; grandchildren: Vincent and Elizabeth Pavy,
Devin, Ashley, Sara, and Carmen Ruble, and Stephanie Young;
one brother: David (Judy) Shafer of Greensburg; two sisters:
Pamela (Jerry) Keller and Penny (Harry) Clift both of Greensburg;
her father and mother-in-law: Alfred and Rita Young of Osgood.
Mrs. Young was a 32 year employee of Delta Faucet in Greensburg,
retiring in 2007. She was a member of St. Johns Catholic
Church in Osgood. Mass of Christian Burial is being held today,
Tuesday, Feb. 5 at 10 a.m. at St. Johns with Father
Shawn Whittington officiating. Burial will be in the St. Maurices
Cemetery in Napoleon. Memorials may be given to the St. Johns
Catholic Church or the Decatur County Hospice in care of Stratton-Karsteter

Edna L. Bedel, 87, of Batesville, passed away
on Wednesday, January 30, 2008. Funeral services were held
on Saturday, Feb. 2 with burial in the St. Louis Church cemetery.

John R. Unger, 61, of Batesville, passed away on Wednesday,
January 30, 2008. Funeral services were held on Saturday,
February 2, with burial in the Holy Family Cemetery in Oldenburg.
