James Clifton Cochran
James Clifton Cochran, 69, of Plant City, Florida, formerly of Holton, passed away at his home on Friday, March 21, 2008. He was born on November 5, 1938 in Rushville, the son of George and Mildred (Brown) Cochran. He married Zella (Webb) Cochran on December 29, 1958 and she survives.
Other survivors include: daughter, Kimberly Singletary (Eric) and son, James Darryl Cochran, both of Plant City, Florida; granddaughters, Heather Smith of Brandon, Florida, Karen and Shandi Lowery, both of Plant City, Florida; grandson, Kyle Campbell of Plant City, Florida; two sisters, Georgia Jewell of Hanover and Jean Otter of Vevay and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Cochran was a former employee of 18 years for Hyatt Lumber Company of Holton and Lykes Brothers Corporation as a mechanic until retirement in 1996.
Graveside memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 5 at Washington Baptist Cemetery in Elrod with Rev. Garland Rudd officiating.

Madonna J. "Nana" Wright Mann Roberts
Madonna J. "Nana" Wright Mann Roberts, 85, of Madison, passed away on Tuesday, March 25, 2008. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre in Madison. Burial will be in Benham Cemetery in Benham. Visitation will be on Friday from 5-7 p.m. and Saturday from noon until time of service at the funeral home. Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre is in charge of arrangements.

Anna A. Elder

Memorial services for Anna A. Elder, of Chesterton, will be on Friday, March 28 at 4 p.m. at Oakdale Cemetery in Dillsboro. Mrs. Elder was the widow of Wilbur Elder, who passed away in 1990.
Survivors include one son, David (Barbara) Elder, of Marian, TX and one daughter, Jeri Sue Hughes, of Chesterton.
They formerly owned the 421 Motel in Versailles, and motels in Florida and Fortville.

Harold E. Thompson
Harold E. Thompson, 88, of Batesville, formerly of Milan, passed away on Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at St. Andrews in Batesville. He was born on April 20, 1919, in Milan, the son of Earl and Katherine (Plump) Thompson. He married Anna Grossman Thompson on January 8, 1944 and she preceded him in death on October 7, 2006.
Survivors include one brother, Donald Thompson of Plainfield and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Thompson was a former employee of the Aurora Casket Co. and Clark Oil Company. He was a member of the Adams Lutheran Church.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 21 at 11 a.m. at Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home in Milan with Rev. William Powlen officiating. Burial will be in the New Craven Cemetery in Milan. Visitation is from 9 a.m. until time of services on Friday. Memorials may be given to Adams Lutheran Church. Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home in Milan is in charge of arrangements.

Charles E. Lovins
Charles E. Lovins, 75, of New Marion, passed away on Thursday, March 6, 2008 at the Waters of Clifty Falls at Madison. He was born at Hazard, Kentucky on February 21, 1933, the son of Henry and Sallie Hadix Lovins. He married Melba Alford and she preceded him in death in 1970.
Survivors include four sons: Dean (Robin) Lovins of Lexington, Edward (Debbie) Lovins of Fairmount, Charles Lovins, Jr. of New Marion, and Robert Lovins of Osgood; three daughters: Shawna (Butch) Poynter of Madison, Anita (Richard) Hamilton of Bennington, and Pam Lovins of Vevay; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two brothers: Kenneth Lovins of Versailles and Jim Lovins of Milan; six sisters: Harriet Cleeter of Lawrenceburg, Jean Wilson of New Marion, Martha Smith of Pendleton, Geneva Napier of Madison, Dottie Woods of Cross Plains, and Juanita Yeomans of Versailles.
Mr. Lovins was preceded in death by his parents, his brother John, and two great grandchildren.
Mr. Lovins was an Army veteran of Korea and a recipient of the Purple Heart. He was a former truck driver for Berry Materials and a member of the Versailles American Legion, Ripley County Voiture 40&8, and the VFW.
Graveside services were held on Tuesday, March 11 at the Liberty Baptist Cemetery at East Enterprise with Rev. Clifton Hartley of the Milton Christian Church officiating. Memorials may be given to the Versailles American Legion in care of Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles.

Roy Glenn Darnold, 60, of Madison, passed away on Monday, March 10, 2008. Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 14 at 11 a.m. at Vail-Holt Funeral Home Hilltop Chapel in Madison with Pastor Don Truesdell officiating. Sarah Ellen Gibson Miller Stiffler

Sarah Ellen Gibson Miller Stiffler, 86, passed away on Saturday, March 8, 2008, at the Lynd House in Muncie. She was born on November 19, 1921, in Eaton, the daughter of LeRoy and Bertha (Reiber) Gibson.
Survivors include a son, Richard Bart Stiffler (wife, Laura), Tell City; a sister-in-law, Betty Gibson, Arizona; her nephews, Robert Gibson, Dean Gibson and Duane Gibson, and her nieces, Emily Poropat and Gailyn Conser. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, Ray Miller and Nodas L. Stiffler, and her brothers, Robert Gibson and Delbert Gibson.
Mrs. Miller-Stiffler graduated from Eaton High School in 1939, and received her Bachelors and Masters Degrees from Ball State University. She taught Home Economics and was a 4-H Leader at Yorktown High School, and taught at Cross Plains High School in Cross Plains. She became a Cooperative Extension Educator and worked in Rushville, Lawrenceburg, Aurora and Rising Sun prior to retiring in 1984. She was active in the Extension Homemakers Clubs in Dearborn County, was a dedicated Red Cross volunteer, and had been Regent of the Colonel Archibald Lochry Chapter of the D.A.R.
She was a long time member of the St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, (Bear Branch), in Dillsboro. She regularly attended High Street United Methodist Church.
Memorial services will be held in Dillsboro at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 15, at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, (Bear Branch), with Rev. Pamela E. Thiede officiating. A private burial will be in Union Cemetery in Eaton. Memorials may be sent to High Street United Methodist Church, Samaritan Fund, 219 S. Marie H. LeGrand
Marie H. LeGrand, 90, of Lodi, California, formerly of Versailles, passed away on March 3, 2008. She was born April 20, 1917 on the family farm in Ripley County, to Charles and Anna Baylor. She married Joseph LeGrand on February 14, 1942 and had just celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary. They moved to Lodi in 1998.
Survivors include her husband, Joseph; children, Mary Ann (Jim) Jacobson of Woodbridge, CA; Philip (Karen) LeGrand of Mary Ester, FL; Teresa (Mike) Locke of Lodi, CA; and her grandchildren, Ann (Rich) Aliano of Chicago, IL and Sara Jacobson of Sacramento, CA. She is also survived by her sister, Ruth Gloyd and brother, Chester Baylor of Milan.
Mrs. LeGrand was a very active community member including service on Ripley County’s election board and as an adult leader with Girl Scouts of America and 4-H. She was associated with the following organizations: American Legion Auxiliary, Daughters of the American Revolution, St. John’s Parish Council of Catholic Women, St. Anne’s Daughters of Isabella, Chi Phi Gamma Sorority and Do-A-Lot Home Economics Club. She was a member of the St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Lodi and St. John’s Catholic Church in Osgood.
Rosary services will be held Thursday, March 6, 6 p.m. at Cherokee Memorial Funeral Home, 831 Industrial Way, with Deacon Karl Welsbacher officiating. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, March 7, 11:30 a.m. at St. Anne’s Catholic Church with Father Brandon Ware officiating. Committal will follow in The Garden of Holy Family at Cherokee Memorial Park in Lodi.

Mitchell Samuel Little
Mitchell Samuel Little, 97, of Holton, died Monday, March 3, 2008 at Heritage House Nursing Home, Greensburg. He was born November 27, 1910 the son of Logan and Lourana Short Little. He married Phenarah Spencer in 1932 and she preceded him in death on April 15, 1989.
Survivors include nieces and nephews and numerous cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by three sisters: Nannie Smoot, Mary Ann Crutchfield, Ida Mae Violes.
Mr. Little had been a school teacher in Kentucky and Milan and was a farmer who raised and sold cattle.
Visitation will be held today, Thursday, March 6 from 5-7 p.m. at Neal’s Funeral Home, Osgood with funeral services at 7 p.m. A second visitation and funeral service will be held in Jackson, Kentucky at the Watts Funeral Home on Friday, March 7, from 1-2 p.m. with burial to follow in the Jackson Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude or the Osgood Area Kiwanis.
