Roberta Fugate
Roberta Fugate, 67, of Holton, passed away on Sunday, October
26, 2008 at her home. She was born at DeKalb, Illinois on
February 9, 1941, the daughter of Robert and Marjorie Mae
Elliott Meredith. She was married to Kenneth Paul Long in
1961 and he preceded her in death in 1980. She was married
to William Edward Fugate on March 26, 1996 and he survives.
Other survivors include one daughter SuElla (Randy) Jordan
of Cincinnati, Ohio; her mother, Marjorie Meredith of Hanover;
step-daughter Carol Fugate of Osgood; and step-granddaughter
Abby Jordan of Cincinnati, Ohio. She was preceded in death
by her father and her sister June Kelly.
Mrs. Fugate was a 1958 graduate of Southwestern High School
at Hanover and had attended the Spenserian Business College
in Louisville. She worked for 15 years as a secretary in the
engineering division of the Jefferson Proving Ground.
Visitation will be on Friday, October 31 from 5-8 p.m. at
the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles. There will
be no services. Memorials may be given to the Ripley County
Humane Society in care of the funeral home.
Elizabeth Ann Posey
Elizabeth Ann Posey, 53, of Moores Hill, passed away on Saturday,
October 25, 2008. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Oct.
28 at Sibbett-Moore Funeral Home in Moores Hill. Burial was
in Union Cemetery in Moores Hill. Memorials may be given to

Martha Grace Wilson Vollmer
Martha Grace Wilson Vollmer, 86 of Osgood, passed away on
Wednesday, October 15, 2008 at 9:21 p.m. at the Decatur County
Memorial Hospital of Greensburg.
A funeral service was held on Monday, October 20, 2008 at
the Osgood First Baptist Church with Rev. Don Buck officiating.
Burial was at St. Johns Lutheran Cemetery in Napoleon.
Born July 30, 1922 in Batesville, she was the daughter of
the late Clint and Rebecca Bultman Wilson. She married George
Vollmer on May 20, 1944, he survives.
Mrs. Vollmer owned and operated Dairy Way with her husband
for nine years. She was a member of the Osgood First Baptist
Church where she served on the funeral committee. She enjoyed
gardening, flowers, cooking, and taking care of her family.
Martha is survived by her husband, two daughters, Rita Kay
and Steve Gookins of Osgood and Linda Jo and Myron Kanning
of Batesville, three sons, John G. and Pamela Vollmer, Robert
G. and Elaine Vollmer, and Jerry Joe and Anita Vollmer all
of Osgood, ten grandchildren, Stephenie Gookins, Ryan Gookins,
Angie Wall, Michelle Wheat, Tiffany Vollmer, Ashley Enneking,
Courtney Vollmer, Adam Vollmer, Reyna Dieckman, and Andrew
Vollmer, and seven great-grandchildren, Zachary and Danielle
Purtlebaugh, Roddick Gookins, Avery Wall, and Cole, Caden,
and Samantha Grace Wheat.
She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, Virgil,
Everett, Clifford, Kenneth, and Alfred Wilson, and a sister,
Opal Peetz.
Memorials may be made to the Osgood First Baptist Church through
Neal's Funeral Home, Osgood.
Grover Cleveland Copeland, Sr.
Grover Cleveland Copeland, Sr., 75, of Madison, passed away
on Friday, October 17, 2008. Funeral services were held on
Monday, October 20 at Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre in Madison.
Burial was in the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Madison.
Memorial contributions may be given to Hospice of Kings
Daughters Hospital. Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre,
Madison, was in charge of arrangements.
Omer Powers
Omer Powers, 71, of Holton, passed away on Sunday, October
19, 2008 at his home. He was born at Rodney in Decatur County
on May 14, 1937, the son of John and Marjorie Giddings Powers.
He was married to Judy Cole on October 5, 1979 and she survives.
Other survivors include three sons: Richard Powers and Melvin
(Brittany) Powers both of Lexington, Tennessee, and Thomas
(Penny) Powers of Westport; three daughters: Marjorie (Sug)
Reeves, Michelle Powers, and Sara (Armando) Martinez all of
Lexington, Tennessee; ten grandchildren; several step grandchildren
and great grandchildren; mother-in-law Mrs. Ruth Cole of Holton;
two sisters: Bertha (Donnie) Dean and Ruth Ann Moore both
of Greensburg. He was preceded in death by his parents, his
children Janie and Paul, and his brothers Lester and Russell
Powers.
Mr. Powers was employed with Ames True-Temper of North Vernon
for 37 years. Funeral services will be held Thursday, October
23 at 2 p.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles.
Burial will be in the Greendale Cemetery at Osgood. Visitation
will be held on Wednesday from 5 p.m. 8 p.m. Memorials may
be given to the donors choice.
James G. (Jim) Wysong
James G. (Jim) Wysong, 62, of Sunman, passed away on Wednesday,
October 15, 2008. Funeral services were held on Monday, October
20 at St. Charles Catholic Church in Milan with Father Frank
Eckstein officiating. Burial was in the St. Joseph Cemetery
in Cincinnati, Ohio. Memorials may be given to the American
Cancer Society. Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home in Milan was
in charge of arrangements.
Doris A. Brelage
Doris A. Brelage, 65, of Batesville, passed away on Sunday,
October 18, 2008. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October
22 from 4-8 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home in Batesville.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, at the St.
Louis Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Memorials
may be given to the Nursing Scholarship Fund of Margaret Mary
Hospital. Weigel Funeral Home in Batesville is in charge of

Emma Lue Michel
Emma Lue Michel, 88, of Osgood passed away Wednesday, October
15, 2008 at her home. She was born at Osgood on September
7, 1920 the daughter of Henry and Mercy Bilby Humphrey. She
was married to Melvin Michel on July 5, 1941 and he preceded
her in death on October 17, 1985.
Survivors include two daughters, Carole Michel of Osgood and
Jenny Lou (George) Schwipps of Milan; grandchildren Ben (Jessica)
Schwipps of Osgood and Andi (Terry) Allison of San Ramon,
California; great-grandchildren Ryan and Evan Schwipps; two
nieces, Jamie Stratton of Lafayette and Janine Stratton of
Holton. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother
James Humphrey.
Mrs. Michel was a 1938 graduate of Osgood High School. She
was a kindergarten teacher, having started a kindergarten
in Versailles and later teaching in Osgood. She was a member
of St. Johns Catholic Church in Osgood, Tri-Kappa, Red
Cross, and the Ripley County Democrat Womens club. She
was also past president of the Osgood Entre Nous and the Ripley
County chapter of the Indiana Federation of Clubs. Mrs. Michel
enjoyed reading, traveling, and music.
A memorial mass is being held today, Tuesday, at 10 a.m. at
St. Johns Catholic Church in Osgood with Father Frank
Eckstein officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will also be today at 9 a.m. at the church. Memorials
may be given to the Ripley County Humane Society in care of
the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles.

Roy Allen Dunaway
Roy Allen Dunaway, 72, of New Whiteland and formerly of Osgood,
passed away on Saturday, October 11, 2008 at the Community
Hospital South of Greenwood. He was born on December 18, 1935
in Carlisle, KY, the son of the late Leroy and Gladys Mae
Williams Dunaway. He married Joan Abplanalp on August 3, 1957
after returning home from serving in the United States Army.
She preceded him in death on January 27, 2008.
Survivors include a daughter, Donna and Brian Borer of Greenwood;
brother, Donald Dunaway of Shelbyville; two sisters, Barbara
Dilk of Osgood and Charlene Abrams of Napoleon; and two grandchildren,
Brittany and Noah. He was preceded in death by his parents,
wife, two brothers: Jake and Robert Dunaway, a sister: Mildred
Wonn, and a cousin, Curtis Dunaway.
Mr. Dunaway had been a truck driver with Southside Ready Mix
of Southport until he retired after 35 years of employment
in 1995. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans
and Union 716 of Indianapolis/South Meridian. He enjoyed fishing,
hunting, and bird hunting.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 15 at
10 a.m. at Neals Funeral Home in Osgood. Visitation
will be from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday and from 9 a.m. until the
time of service on Wednesday. Burial will be at the Cliff
Hill Cemetery in Versailles with military graveside honors
being provided by the Osgood American Legion post. Memorials
may be made through the funeral home to the Disabled American
Veterans. Neals Funeral Home in Osgood is in charge
of arrangements.
Betty Jean Gentry
Betty Jean Gentry, age 76, of Dillsboro, formerly of Aurora,
died Wednesday, October 8, 2008 at Dearborn County Hospital.
She was born January 21, 1932 in Owsley County, KY the daughter
of William Harvey and Lucy Becknell Harvey. On July 9, 1949
she was married to Clinton Gentry, and he passed away on No
30, 1978.
Survivors include two children, Todd Gentry and his fiancee,
Amanda Taylor, of Aurora, and Penny (Michael) Jones, of Minneolla,
FL; six grandchildren, Heather Kostin, Chelsea Beth Gentry,
Lukas Todd Gentry, Morgan Beth Gentry, Kennie Douglas Gentry,
and Brittni Jones; two great grandchildren; two brothers,
Bob Clem, of Lexington, KY and Ralph Clem, of Shelbyville,
IN; her sister, Francis Smith, of Latonia, KY. She was preceded
in death by her son, Kennie Gentry, in 2004; two brothers,
Lawrence and Bruce Harvey; and her sister, Mary Lee Harvey.
Mrs. Gentry was employed at Dillsboro Manor as a beautician
for many years. Her children and grandchildren were very important
to her. In her later years, Betty moved to The Waters of Dillsboro
Manor, where she had many friends and enjoyed the activities
there.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, Oct 12 at Filter-DeVries
Funeral Home, Dillsboro. Memorials may be made to the Dillsboro
Emergency Unit. Filter-DeVries Funeral Home in Dillsboro was
in charge of arrangements.
Ruth M. Maxwell
Ruth M. Maxwell, 83, of Elrod, passed away on Friday, October
10, 2008 at the Waters of Dillsboro. She was born on November
12, 1924 at Ft. Wayne, the daughter of Charles E. and Gail
J. (Hillman) Smith. She married John V. Maxwell on August
28, 1954 and he preceded her in death on February 4, 2005.
Survivors include son, Jon (Denise) Maxwell of Moorefield;
daughters, Janet (Craig) Roseland of Maryland and Mary (Gary)
Ortiz or Kansas; grandchildren, Katrina and Miranda Roseland,
Carmen, Thomas, Jonathan and Olivia Ortiz; Alissa, Eileen,
Kara, Desirae, Brian and Brooke Maxwell; and sister Janet
Markley of New Haven.
Mrs. Maxwell was a home economist for Purdue University Extension
at Versailles. She was a member and church organist for over
30 years at the Milan United Methodist Church; a member of
the Homemakers Club; the Farm Bureau and the Gideons Auxiliary.
Funeral services are being held today, Tuesday, at 11 a.m.
at the Milan United Methodist Church with Pastor Stormey Scherer-Berry
officiating. Burial will be in the Washington Baptist Cemetery
at Elrod. Memorials may be given to Gideons or Milan United

Russell McGuire
Russell McGuire, 77, of Versailles passed away Thursday, Oct.
9, 2008 at his home. He was born at Caney in Morgan ., KY.,
on Feb. 10, 1931 the son of Green and Monnie Bailey McGuire.
He was married to Juanita Tinch on June 3, 1953 and she preceded
him in death on Oct. 31, 1999. He was married to Sheila Lee
on Dec. 27, 2001 and she survives.
Other survivors include one son, Von (Vickie) McGuire of Versailles;
two daughters, Guyeula (Olgust) Bowling of Middletown, OH,
and Rhonda (Tim) Taylor of Rexville; two stepsons, Rick Humphrey
of Indianapolis and Frank (Lisa) Humphrey of Greenwood; one
stepdaughter Kim (Rich) Woehler of Indianapolis; seven grandchildren,
nine great-grandchildren, nine stepgrandchildren, and two
step great-grandchildren; five sisters, Magdalene Robinson,
Janice (Dean) Turner, and Shirley Willis all of Franklin,
OH, Helen (Jim) Fletcher of North Vernon, and Ellarose (Gary)
Johnson of Springboro, OH; five brothers, Ray (Annabee) McGuire,
James (Cassie) McGuire, and Robert (Patricia) McGuire all
of Franklin, OH, Jackie (Janice) McGuire, and Forest McGuire
both of Rexville. He was also preceded in death by his parents,
his brothers Clyde and Michael, and his great-granddaughter
Savannah Woodham.
Mr. McGuire was a musician having recorded various albums
and CDs. He was also well known in the local area for
playing at many weddings and funerals. He attended the Cedar
Creek Community Church and was a supervisor for Milestone
Contractors. He was also an Army veteran of the Korean War.
Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 13 at the Cedar Creek
Community Church with Rev. Garland Rudd officiating. Graveside
services were held at the Wood Hill Cemetery in Franklin,
OH. with military graveside rites by the Franklin VFW Post
7596. Memorials may be given to the Hospice of South Central
Indiana or the American Cancer Society in care of Stratton-Karsteter
Funeral Home,Versailles.

Leonard J. Fry
Leonard J. Fry, 98, of Greensburg, passed away
on September 29, 2008 at the Decatur County Memorial Hospital
in Greensburg. He was born on April 1, 1910, in Decatur County,
the son of Leo and Emma (Kroger) Fry. He first married Stelma
Steuri of Napoleon and she preceded him in death in 1947.
He was then married to Edith Pugh and she preceded him in
death on March 30, 1998.
He is survived by one son, Norbert P. (Jane) Fry of New Cumberland,
PA; sisters-in-law, Velma Fry of Millhousen and Hazel Steuri
of Napoleon; one granddaughter, Angela (Fry) Mease of Maryland;
three great-grandchildren, Adam, James and Jennifer Mease;
and several step children. He was preceded in death by his
parents, and one brother, Robert E. Fry.
Mr. Fry was a self employed carpenter. He also had worked
part time at the September Place in Greensburg for several
years. He was a member of the St. Marys Catholic Church
in Greensburg.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, October 1 at the
St. Marys Catholic Church in Greensburg with Msgr. Harold
Knueven officiating. Interment was in the St. Marys
Catholic Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the St. Marys
Church Building Fund. Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home in
Greensburg was in charge of arrangements.
Lucinda Ritchie
Lucinda Ritchie, 94, of Milan, passed away on Saturday, October
4, 2008 at Ripley Crossing in Milan. She was born on December
30, 1913 at Sassafras, Kentucky, the daughter of Simon Kenton
and Katherine (Campbell) Cornett. She married Ishmael Ritchie
on April 7, 1934 and he preceded her in death on March 19,
2003.
Survivors include three sons: W. Roger Ritchie of Cincinnati,
OH, Philip (Pat) Ritchie of Blue Bell, PA, and Harold Ritchie
of Bellevue, WA; one daughter, Patricia (Bob) Cunningham of
Milan; ten grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren; several
nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Ritchie was a homemaker and a member of the Milan First
Baptist Church.
Funeral services are being held today, Tuesday, at 11 a.m.
at Hope Baptist Church, west of Dillsboro, with Rev. Tom Holt
and Rev. Harris Long officiating. Burial will be in the New
Craven Cemetery in Milan. Memorials may be given to the donors
choice. Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home in Milan is in charge

Mable Vesta Peace
Mable Vesta Peace, 84, of Osgood, passed away on Wednesday,
October 1, 2008 at Margaret Mary Community Hospital in Batesville.
She was born on February 14, 1924 at Garrard County, KY, the
daughter of James Robert and Martha Francis Hellard Hatfield.
She married Joseph William Peace on October 29, 1941 and he
preceded her in death on March 7, 1983.
Survivors include two sons: Walter Clay (Georgiann) Peace
of Columbus, and Joseph Wayne (Barbara) Peace of Osgood; three
daughters: Judy Mae (Richard Kappes, Patricia Carol (Larry)
Winters, and Vickie Maxine (Charles) Swinney, all of Osgood;
15 grandchildren; 45 great grandchildren; seven great-great
grandchildren; and one sister, Ethel (Russell) Peace of Osgood.
She was preceded in death by three brothers: Everett, Orville
"Jack", and Corbin Hatfield; one sister: Nora Ellen
Hatfield; and one grandson.
Mrs. Peace was a member of the Osgood First Baptist Church,
a past member of the church choir and missionary. She had
been very involved over the years fixing many funeral meals
and other church meals.
Funeral services were held on Monday, October 6, at Osgood
Baptist Church. Burial was in the Grandview Memorials Gardens
in Madison. Memorials may be given to the Osgood Baptist Church.

Elizabeth Danner
Elizabeth Danner, 92, of Alexandria, Kentucky, formerly of
Versailles, passed away on Sunday, October 5, 2008 at the
home of her niece. She was born at Alexandria on April 8,
1916, the daughter of Andy and Anna Hess Trapp. She was married
to Claude Maggard in 1943 and he preceded her in death in
1972. She married Robert Danner in 1974 and he preceded her
in death in 1987.
Survivors include one nephew, Tom Trapp and one niece Brenda
Trapp-Johnson, both of Alexandria along with several great
nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her
parents and her brother, Henry Trapp.
Mrs. Danner was a 1935 graduate of Campbell County High School
where she was valedictorian of her senior class and was a
1941 graduate of Eastern Kentucky University. She began her
school teaching career in Kentucky in 1937 and retired at
Versailles in 1980. She taught at Campbell County, Williamsburg,
Ohio, Jacksonburg, Ohio and locally at New Marion and Versailles.
She was a member of the Versailles Baptist Church, Ripley
County Retired Teachers Association, Campbell County Teachers
Association, and the Northern Kentucky Teachers Association.
Funeral services are being held today, Tuesday, at 12 p.m.
at the Versailles Baptist Church with Rev. Don Humphrey officiating.
Burial will be in the Cliff Hill Cemetery in Versailles. Visitation
will be from 11 a.m. until time of service on Tuesday at the
church. Memorials may be given to the Versailles Baptist Church
in care of the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles.
