Grace Maurice Carter-Sanders
Grace Maurice Carter-Sanders, 91, Greenwood passed away peacefully December 21, 2008 at the Madera, CA home of her daughter Janice (Mike) Lawson with her loving family members at her bedside.
She was born June 5, 1917 in Wolf County, KY to the late Hiram L. and Lizzie B. Chambers Whisman. Other survivors include sons Carl Edward Trader, Cape Coral, FL, James (Anita) Carter, Richmond, VA and John S. Carter, Greenwood; daughter Anna Kay (William) Swinney, Holton, IN; sisters Bertie Campbell, Frankfort and Ruth (Jim) Overton, Milton, KY as well as numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. Grace was also preceded in death by a daughter Clara Emogene Coulter and fifteen brothers and sisters. She was a member of Greenwood Christian Church and enjoyed hobbies of sewing and creating crafts. Her employment for several years included various local retail stores.
Services were held Monday, December 29 at Singleton Community Mortuary and Memorial Center. A committal service was held on Monday, December 29 at Shelby Christian Church Cemetery, Versailles.

Martha Elizabeth Block
Martha Elizabeth Block, age 72, of Dillsboro, passed away Saturday, December 27, 2008 at the Waters of Dillsboro, Ross Manor, following a long illness. She was born April 5, 1936 in Dillsboro, the fourth child of Frank E. Meyer and Agatha (Johnston) Meyer. In 1954 she married Charles E. Block and he survives.
Other survivors include one daughter, Melissa (Dale) LaFollette, and one grandson, Jason Charles LaFollette; two brothers, Norman Meyer of Lawrenceburg, and Melvin Meyer, of Guilford. She was preceded in death by her parents and one daughter, Melody Dawn Block.
Mrs. Block was a long time member of the Hopewell Presbyterian Church in Dillsboro.
Funeral services are being held today, Tuesday, at 11 a.m. at Filter-DeVries Funeral Home in Dillsboro. Burial will be in the Oakdale Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Lung Association or the Diabetes Association. Filter-DeVries Funeral Home in Dillsboro is in charge of arrangements.

Berneda Ruth Miles, 85, passed away on Wednesday, December 24, 2008 at Jennings Healthcare Center in North Vernon. Janet L. Heidorn
Janet L. Heidorn, 67, of Merrillville, passed away on Saturday, December 27, 2008. She is the daughter of Wayne and Virginia Kelso. She married Robert L. Heidorn and he preceded her in death.
Surviving is her mother, Virginia, of Osgood; children: Robert W. Heidorn (Vickie Lawrence) of Crown Point, Tracey (Thomas)Sears of San Antonio, TX and Michael L. Heidorn of Madison; two grandchildren, Matthew (Kaleah) Sears of Columbia, SC and Erin Sears of San Antonio, TX; siblings, Jack (Joann) Kelso of Crossville, TN, Sandra (William) Gloyd of Osgood, and Sara (Steve) Hatton of Indianapolis. She was preceded in death by her father and husband.
Mrs. Heidorn was a lifetime member of the Ladies Auxiliary of V.F.W. Post 9982 in Griffith, and also served as president.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 31 at 10 a.m. at Burns Funeral Home in Crown Point. Burial will be in the Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens in Schererville. Visitation is being held today, Tuesday, from 2-8 p.m. at the funeral home in Crown Point.

Marjorie L. Giltner Wooley, 81, of North Vernon, formerly of Brooksburg, Cross Plains and New Marion, passed away on Wednesday, December 24, 2008. Funeral services were held on Monday, Dec. 29 at the Vail-Holt Funeral Home, Downtown Chapel. Burial was in Salem Cemetery near Cross Plains. Memorials may be given to the Marjorie L. Ruth M. Kinnett
Ruth M. (Marty) Kinnett, 87, of Cincinnati, died Tuesday, December 23, 2008 at University Hospital, Cincinnati. She was born February 9, 1921 at Milan, the daughter of Henry and Elise (Oswald) Jordan. She married Forrest (Frosty) Kinnett in 1946 and he preceded her in death in 1997.
Survivors include one brother, Walter Jordan of Milan, one sister, Mildred "Millie" Schutte of Cincinnati and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Kinnett was a homemaker and a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church at Stumpke’s Corner.
Funeral services were held Saturday, December 27 at 11 a.m. at the St. Paul Lutheran Church at Milan with Pastor Fred Cook officiating. Burial was in the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery.

Malcolm Roberts
Malcolm Roberts, 95, of Phoenix, Arizona passed away December 16, 2008 at the Hospice of Arizona in Peoria. He was born near Versailles on July 13, 1913 the son of Lester and Alma Roberts. He was married to Katherine Marie Doyle in 1938 and she preceded him in death on July 10, 2004.
Survivors include one son Donald (Wanda) Roberts of Napoleon; one daughter Sandy (Don) Smith of Phoenix; and five grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his parents, and his brothers Raymond and Russell Roberts.
Mr. Roberts was a retired carpenter and a member of the Versailles Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held Sunday, December 21 at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Rev. Rand Hooton officiating. Burial was in the Washington Cemetery at Elrod. Memorials may be given to the Versailles Baptist Church or the Washington Cemetery in care of the funeral home.

Pauline L. Smith
Pauline L. Smith, 86, of Benham, formerly of Cross Plains passed away Saturday, December 20, 2008 at her home. She was born in Switzerland County on June 2, 1922 the daughter of Henry and Mary Knollman Iceberg. She was married to Ervin Smith on June 6, 1942 and he preceded her in death on December 4, 1979.
Survivors include two daughters, Phyllis Demaree of Versailles and Marsha (Gordon) Jones of Ft. Mill, South Carolina; eight grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her son Gary, her sister Irene Iceberg, and her brothers Harold, Leslie, and Melvin Iceberg.
Mrs. Smith was a lifetime member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Dewberry. She was a homemaker and assisted her husband in farming.
Funeral services are being held today, Tuesday, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Dewberry with Pastor Ralph Campen officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles from 10 a.m. until time of services Tuesday at the church. Mary A. Goss

Mary A. Goss, 78, of Osgood, passed away on Sunday, December 21, 2008 at Ripley Crossing in Milan. She was born January 20, 1930 at New Marion, the daughter of George and Ann Miller Walters.
Survivors include two daughters, Vickie (Gregory) Tunny and Roxanne (Gary) Payne all of Osgood; one sister, Bernice Woods of Grenada, Mississippi; special companion, Farrell Monroe of Osgood; eight grandchildren and one great grandchild. She was preceded in death by one brother, Eddie Walters.
Ms. Goss was employed with US Shoe in Osgood.
Visitation will be from 9-10 a.m. at St. John’s Catholic Church in Osgood with funeral mass starting at 10 a.m. Burial will be in the church cemetery in Osgood. Neal’s Funeral Home in Osgood is in charge of arrangements.

Thomas "Paul" Miller
Thomas Paul Miller, 21, of Holton, passed away on Friday, December 19, 2008 at Children’s Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was born at Batesville on October 11, 1987, the son of James and Bonnie Culley Miller.
Survivors include his parents; his sister Lauren of Indianapolis; his brother Chris Miller of Holton; paternal grandparents, Ralph and Joyce Miller of Osgood; maternal grandfather, William Culley of Indianapolis; several aunts, uncles, cousins, greataunts, and uncles, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Bonnie Culley.
Paul was a 2007 graduate of South Ripley High School where he participated as a student manager for the baseball and basketball teams. He was proud to have been associated with the Raider teams that won the 2004 boys basketball sectional and the 2006 and 2007 teams that won baseball sectionals. He was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Osgood.
A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, January 3 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John’s with Father Frank Eckstein and Father Shaun Whittington officiating. Rosary services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Following mass, Paul’s family would like to have all their friends and family join them for a meal and a time of fellowship to celebrate Paul’s life at the South Ripley Elementary School at Versailles. Paul had fought a rare form of muscular dystrophy for many years so his body was donated to further the study of the disease.
Memorials may be given to the Muscular Dystrophy Association or for a scholarship in Paul’s name through the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles.

Raymond House
Raymond House, 78, of Osgood, was born March 17, 1930 in Hamilton, Ohio to the parents of Edward Franklin and China Catherine Stewart House. He married Delores Grace Luckey on March 7, 1951 and she still survives at home in Osgood.
Other survivors include three sons: Edward Hayden House of Hamilton, Ohio, Michael Ray House of Osgood, and Wm. Lee House of Hamilton, Ohio; three daughters: Kathy L. Brewer and husband Tim of Osgood, Deborah Lynn and husband Doug Ogden of Osgood and Deirdre Joyce and husband Steve Merz of Holton; 19 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and one great great grandchildren; one brother, Jerry House of Florida and two sisters: Emma Gabbard of New Miami, Ohio and Joann Maupin of California. He was preceded in death by one son, Raymond Wayne House and seven brothers and one sisters.
Mr. House had worked 32 years at Champion Paper of Hamilton, Ohio.

Margaret R. Palmer

Margaret R. Palmer, 83, of West Harrison passed away Thursday, December 11, 2008 at her home. She was born near New Marion on December 11, 1925 the daughter of Clarence and Flora Walter Kieffer. She was married to Glen Palmer on October 5, 1943 and he preceded her in death on January 25, 2005.
Survivors include two sons Jimmy (Diana) Palmer of West Harrison and Darrel (Susan) Palmer of Harrison, Ohio; three grandchildren, Lori (Patrick) Trimble of Sunman, Jeni (Jeff) Christofferson of Indianapolis, and Dennis (Sarah) Palmer of Cincinnati; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers James and Raymond Kieffer, her sister Elnora Skeen, and her grandson Philip Palmer.
Mrs. Palmer was a homemaker. She enjoyed gardening and fishing.

Donald E. Bergman
Donald E. Berman, 82, passed away Wednesday, afternoon, December 10, 2008 at The Woodlands. He was born July 30, 1926, near Sunman, the son of Dorothy Behlmer Bergman and Edward Bergman. He married Ruth (Pohle) Bergman on June 2, 1951 and she survives.
Other survivors include two daughters: Cindy Bergman and Laurie Rowe (Mark McDaniel); one son-in-law, Michael Dial; three sisters, Mildred Huneke (Cliff); Phyllis Rhodes (Phil) and Joan Hehe (Joe); one brother, Ken Bergman (Ginny); three sisters-in-law, Elaine Bergman, Marge Mayhaus and Phyllis Rueter; four grandchildren; Miccah Hoffman (Steve); Meagan Dial; Marcus Dial (Carol) and Dylan Rowe and one great-grand daughter, Goldie Lynn Hoffman. He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Roberta Lynn Dial and one brother, Ray Bergman.
Mr. Bergman graduated from Milan High School in 1944. He was a US Navy WWII veteran and served on the air craft carrier, USS Monterey. He worked at Warner Gear for 31 years and retired in 1975. After retirement he enjoyed painting, working in his yard and garden, golfing, square dancing and especially his grandchildren. His memberships include Grace Lutheran Church, the American Legion and he was a charter member of the Grand Spinners Square Dance Club.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, December 13 at Adams Lutheran Church in Batesville with burial in the church cemetery. Dora Ann Ernst
Dora Ann Ernst, age 76, of Dillsboro, passed away Tuesday, November 25, 2008 at Deaconess Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio. She was born October 21, 1932 in Irondale, Ohio the daughter of Elmer Golden and Margaret Dallas Golden. She married Richard Ernst in 1954, and he survives.

Jack A. Moreland

Jack A. Moreland, 78, of Dillsboro, passed away Saturday, Dec 6, 2008 at Dearborn County Hospital. He was born May 6, 1930 in Hooven, Ohio the son of John Wesley Moreland and Margarette Arnold Moreland. On Sept 30, 1950 he was married to Rose Mary Guard and she survives.
Other survivors include one son, Daniel A. Moreland, of Dillsboro; two daughters, Leeanne (Mrs. Thom) Maltbie, of Dillsboro, and Jane Moreland, of Yorktown, VA; two grandchildren, Emily Bennett and Tanner Maltbie; and a cousin, Betty Clark, of Dillsboro.
Mr. Moreland graduated from Taylor High School in North Bend in 1948. From 1952-54 He served his country in the US Marines, during the Korean Conflict. He was employed for 25 years as a machinist at Seagrams. He was an animal lover, especially his 2 dogs, Pepper and Tassey.
A memorial service will be Wednesday, Dec. 10, at 6 p.m. at Dillsboro United Methodist Church, with Pastors Dennis Alstott and Richard Wilson officiating. Friends may meet the family Wednesday from 4-6 p.m. at the church. Memorials may be given to P.A.W.S or to Dillsboro Community Food Pantry. Arrangements by Filter-DeVries Funeral Home, in Dillsboro.

Dorothy E. "Dottie" Heppner
Dorothy E. "Dottie" Heppner, 84, of Oldenburg and Ripley Crossing, passed away on Saturday, December 6, 2008 at Margaret Mary Hospital in Batesville. She was born on March 19, 1924, in Buchanan, Michigan, the daughter of Margaret (nee:Smith) and Michael Buckhave. She married Virgil "Bud" Heppner on July 20, 1946 at Holy Family Church in Oldenburg and he preceded her in death on August 6, 1997.
Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Connie and John Moody of Batesville; and granddaughters, Lisa Honkomp of WA, and Traci Graham of KY; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brothers Harold and Donald Buckhave.
Mrs. Heppner was active in the Ripley County V.F.W. Post #3183 Ladies Auxiliary, Holy Family Church and its’ ladies society, the Surviving Spouses Ministry and was a founding member of the Oldenburg Park Board, where she helped organize the redevelopment of the Gilbert Munchel Park. She was an avid bowler and was involved with the Oldenburg Girl Scouts where she served as Troop Leader and held several terms as Director of the Girl Scout Camp in Batesville.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 10 at 10 a.m. at the Holy Family Church in Oldenburg with Rev. David Kobak O.F.M. officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation is being held today, Tuesday, from 4-7 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home with prayer service at 6 p.m. Memorials may be given to the Gilbert Munchel Park Fund or the Holy Family Religious Education Fund. James "Pickle" Ellerman

James "Pickle" Ellerman, 62, of Versailles passed away Thursday, December 4, 2008 at the Margaret Mary Hospital in Batesville. He was born at Milan on March 17, 1946 the son of Estol and Dortha Chance Ellerman. He was married to Beverly Andrew on August 9, 1969 and she survives.
Other survivors include his nieces Summer (Doug) Acra of Milan, Autumn Cameron of Hanover, Jennifer Mann of Bloomington, Susannah Mann of Versailles, and Jocelyn Eden of Milan; nephews Ricky (Mandy) Andrew of Dillsboro and Derick Cameron of Milan; two great nieces and one great nephew; friends Bill, Bobby, and Janie Browning. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Marie Mann.
Mr. Ellerman was a 1964 graduate of Versailles High School and was a member of the Tyson United Methodist Church. He was a 35 year employee of Seagrams and was also a farmer. He was also an accomplished guitarist having played music in the entire tri-state area. He was a custodian at South Ripley schools for a number of years.
Funeral services were held Monday, December 8 at Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles. Burial was in the Ellerman-Blair Cemetery near Friendship. Memorials may be given to the Diabetes Foundation of America or the South Ripley Classroom Teachers Scholarship Fund in care of the funeral home.

Belva D. Andrew
Belva D. Andrew, 80, of Elrod passed away Sunday, December 7, 2008 at her home. She was born near Vevay on June 15, 1928, the daughter of Clyde and Nora Phillips Hysell. She was married to George Andrew on June 11, 1948.
Survivors include one son Rick (Sandy) Andrew of Elrod; two daughters Beverly Ellerman of Versailles and Darla (Joe) Eden of Milan; five grandchildren and three great grandchildren; one sister Elma Jean Rayls of Vevay; and one brother, Lyonel Hysell of Madison.
She was preceded in death by her parents, son-in-law James Ellerman, sisters, Armeda Drake, Elaine Lock and Saundra Hysell and her brothers, Meredith, Delmont, Lowell, Dorman, Dewayne and Adrian Hysell.
Mrs. Andrew was a 1946 graduate of Vevay High School and was a member of the Washington Baptist Church and the Ripley County Farm Bureau. She had been employed in housekeeping at the Waters of Dillsboro Manor for 27 years and had also worked at US Shoe in Vevay. She was a homemaker and a former 4-H leader for the Elrod Stars. She had also served as a custodian for the Washington Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 11 at 11 a.m. at the Washington Baptist Church in Elrod with Rev. Bruce Fitzsimmons officiating. Burial will be in the Washington Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. at Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home, Versailles and from 10 a.m. until the time of services Thursday at the church.
Memorials may be given to a fund for the family at the US Bank in Dillsboro or through the funeral home.

George E. Andrew

George E. Andrew, 85, of Elrod passed away Sunday, December 7, 2008 at his home. He was born near Vevay on November 6, 1923, the son of Ethol and Mabel Rogers Andrew. He was married to Belva Hysell on June 11, 1948.
Survivors include one son Rick (Sandy) Andrew of Elrod; two daughters, Beverly Ellerman of Versailles and Darla (Joe) Eden of Milan; five grandchildren and three great grandchildren; and one sister, Nell Jaynes of Anderson and brother-in-law, John Lucas of Vevay.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son-in-law James Ellerman, sisters Martha Burnett, Grace Jourdan, and Dorothy Lucas and his brothers, Ethol Andrew, Jr., and Dale Andrew.
Mr. Andrew was an Army veteran of WWII and was a member of the Washington Baptist Church. He had worked as a district foreman for the Ripley County Highway Department retiring in 1999 and also had driven a bus for the Milan schools for nine years. He was a former 4-H leader for the Elrod Stars and had driven a milk truck. He enjoyed his garden and coon hunting.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 11 at 11 a.m. at the Washington Baptist Church with Rev. Bruce Fitzsimmons officiating. Burial will be in the Washington Cemetery with military rites by the Versailles American Legion. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. at Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home, Versailles and from 10 a.m. until the time of services Thursday at the church.
Memorials may be given to a fund for the family at the US Bank in Dillsboro or through the funeral home.

Monta Irene Hawley, 90, of Osgood, passed away on Wednesday, December 3, 2008. Funeral services were held on December 6 at Neal’s Funeral Home in Osgood. Burial was in Mud Pike Cemetery in Osgood. Dora Ann Ernst
Dora Ann Ernst, age 76, of Dillsboro, passed away Tuesday, November 25, 2008 at Deaconess Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio. She was born October 21, 1932 in Irondale, Ohio the daughter of Elmer Golden and Margaret Dallas Golden. She married Richard Ernst in 1954, and he survives.
Other survivors include two daughters, Debra A. (Edgar) Tullius, of Cincinnati, and Dori L. (William) Martz, of Dillsboro; five grandchildren; two brothers, Walter and William Golden, and three sisters, Jean Bender, Alice Zoller, and Margaret Hutton.
Mrs. Ernst attended Ohio State University and later graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a teaching degree. She taught in grades K-2 for 18 years at Oak Hills local school district in Ohio. She was a member of Hopewell Presbyterian Church in Dillsboro for over 20 years, and served on session for 12 years and as clerk for 6 years.
A memorial service was held Saturday, Nov. 29 at Hopewell Presbyterian Church in Dillsboro with Pastor Dana Stout officiating. Memorials may be given to Hopewell Presbyterian Church. Filter-DeVries Funeral Home in Dillsboro was in charge of arrangements.

Deanna Elaine Miller
Deanna Elaine Miller, 69, of Dillsboro, passed away on Monday, November 24, 2008 at the Waters of Dillsboro, Ross Manor. She was born September 22, 1939 in Kentucky the daughter of Chester Kinnett and Lottie Slayback. In 1973 she married Harvey Miller and he preceded her in death in 1985.
Survivors include two sons, Terry (Cathy) Griffin and Tim Griffin, both of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; two brothers, Albert "Bud" Kinnett, and Lawrence (Doris) Kinnett; a special niece, Monna Ferreira; a nephew, John Kinnett; and sister-in-law, Lois Kinnett.
Mrs. Miller lived in Dillsboro for many years until moving to Versailles in 1988. She was involved in the Versailles/Osgood Amvets.
Funeral services were held Friday, November 28 at Filter-DeVries Funeral Home in Dillsboro, with Pastor Charles Hill officiating. Memorials may be given to the family. Filter-DeVries Funeral Home in Dillsboro was in charge of arrangements.

Ruth Fullmer-Federle, 97, of Batesville, passed away on Tuesday, November 25, 2008. Funeral services were held on Friday, Nov. 28 at Meyers Funeral Home in Batesville. Wilbur L. Reed, 93, of Madison, passed away on Friday, November 28, 2008. Funeral services are being held today, Tuesday, at 11 a.m. at Vail-Holt Funeral Homes- Hilltop Chapel. Betty E. Martin
Betty E. Martin, 91, of Milan, formerly of Fairmount, passed away on Tuesday, November 25, 2008 at Ripley Crossing in Milan. She was born at Marion on January 4, 1917 the daughter of John and Inez Vetor Seigel. She was married to William Kenneth Martin in 1940 and he preceded her in death in 1973.
Survivors include one son, Michael (Marsha) Martin of Milan; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild; one brother, George Seigel of Fairmount; brother-in-law Ralph Spence of Overland Park, Kansas; sister-in-law Jane Allen of Columbus. She was preceded in death by her parents and her grandson.
Mrs. Martin was a 1934 graduate of Fairmount High School. She was past president of the PIHICHI Sorority and a former manager of the OI Credit Union in Gas City.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 3, 2009 at the Fairmount Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Ripley Crossing or the American Heart Association in care of the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles. Online condolences available at skfuneralhome.com.

Nannie Cole
Nannie Cole, 90, of Milan, passed away on Saturday, November 29, 2008 at Ripley Crossing in Milan. She was born on September 27, 1918 in Knox County, Kentucky, the daughter of Thomas and Susie (Caldwell) Broughton. She married Chris Cole on July 30, 1945 and he preceded her in death on August 21, 1996.
Survivors include son, Jerome "Jerry" (Joy) Cole of Milan; daughters, Jeweline (Kenneth) Hosmer of Milan, Joyce (Jon) Alsup of Milton, Ky., and Shirley (Thomas) Raker of Madison; seven grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Mrs. Cole was a homemaker and a member of the New Testament Baptist Church at Penntown.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 3, at 11 a.m. at the New Testament Baptist Church at Penntown with Rev. Tom Fehrman officiating. Burial will be in the New Craven Cemetery in Milan. Visitation is being held today, Tuesday, from 6-8 p.m. at Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home in Milan.
