Raiders put a shine on the Shiners

The South Ripley Lady Raider Varsity basketball team literally
lit up the SRHS scoreboards in their Thursday night, January
15 battle against the Rising Sun Lady Shiners, to a final score
of 65-24.
The opening contest featured JV action between the Lady Raiders
and the Lady Shiners. SR got the evening off to a great start
with a 39-20 victory.

A wintery blast howled outside the gym along with frigid temperatures
around the zero mark. The cold shoulder shown the visiting Lady
Shiners was not much better on the inside.
The Lady Raiders controlled the opening tip, as freshman Jessica
Foster did the honors for SR. Lady Raider senior Jordan Vinup
quickly scored a FG, that led to a 16-0 run by the Lady Raider
team with 4:40 remaining, in the first period of play.
Scoring FG's in the early Lady Raider blast were seniors Vinup,
Erica Ester, Vinup, freshman Whitney Walker, Vinup, Walker,
Ester and Walker.
At 3:36, senior Rising Sun Lady Shiner Kayla Ferreira put in
a FG for their first score of the night. Lady Raider freshman
Kasey King and Shiner Ferreira traded FG's. Lady Shiner senior
Caitlyn Bowman and Ferreira added FG's taking the score to SR
18-8 with 1:27 left to be played in quarter one. Lady Raider
freshman Jessica Foster nailed a FG for the final scoring of
the first period.
The Lady Shiners had the ball out to begin quarter two. Lady
Raider Ester scored a FG, leading to a senior Lady Shiner Courtney
Weaver FG. Lady Raider Foster scored a FG and drained a three
from downtown, to put the Lady Raiders up 27-10 at the midway
point of the second quarter's action.
Lady Shiner freshman Megan Pickett scored three FG's. Lady Raider
King added two FG's and sophomore Rachel Mathes added 3 of 4
FT's, to end the half at SR 34-16 RS.
In the third period, Lady Raider scoring was delivered by Ester
with two FG's and 2 FT's, two Vinup FG's and a FG each by Foster
and King. Lady Shiner scoring came from a FG each by Ferreira
and Pickett.
The Lady Raiders entered the fourth period with a 48-20 lead.
Lady Shiner freshman Kendra Hudson opened the scoring with a
FG, answered by Lady Raider Foster draining of another downtown
three bomb. Lady Shiner Ferreira scored a FG which led to Lady
Raider FG's scored by Ester, Foster, Ester and Ester, before
RS called for a time out at the 3:30 mark.
Scoring for the remainder of the game came from Lady Raider
Kyla Sexton who drilled a three and added a FG and King, after
connecting on one of two FT tries, for a final score of SR 65-24
RS.
