Osgood man killed in accident

According to information from the Ripley County Sheriff’s Office, Travis W. Simers, 21, of Osgood, lost his life in a traffic accident on Saturday night, Feb. 14.

Lt. Randy Holt responded to the accident just before 10 p.m. about 2 1/2 miles west of Napoleon on Brownstown Road. Officers found a silver 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee, operated by Simers, had been traveling east on Brownstown Road, had apparently ran off the roadway on the right, overcorrected, causing the vehicle to overturn, coming to rest on its top.

Simers suffered massive head trauma and was pronounced dead at the scene by Ripley County Coroner Ron Buchanan. A passenger, James R. Gordon, 19, also of Osgood, was treated for minor injuries.
Simers is the son of Larry and Brenda Simers, of Osgood. He graduated from Jac-Cen-Del High School, attended the Southeastern Career Center and was a member of the Sons of the American Legion in Osgood.

Visitation will be today, February 17 from 4-8 p.m. at Neal’s Funeral Home, Osgood. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 18 at 10:00 a.m. at the Osgood Baptist Church with burial in the Greendale Cemetery, Osgood. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Neal’s Funeral Home.
