Michelle Riggle
Funeral services for Sandra Michelle Riggle, 26, of North
Vernon, IN, were held Monday, February 23, 2009, at Scott
Funeral Homes North Chapel, Jeffersonville, with burial
in Walnut Ridge Cemetery. She passed away Thursday, Feb. 19,
2009.
She was born in Jeffersonville, IN, a graduate of Jeffersonville
High School Class of 2001, Indiana University Southeast Class
of 2006, earned the Girl Scout Gold Award, a member of First
Presbyterian Church in Jeffersonville, and was currently working
as a science teacher at South Ripley High School.
She is survived by her parents, Walter Stephen Steve
and Sandy Riggle, Jeffersonville, IN; two brothers, Jonathan
Riggle, Jeffersonville, IN; Jeremy Riggle, Jeffersonville,
IN; two grandmothers, Betty Belschwender, Indianapolis, IN;
Betty Riggle, North Brook, IL; two uncles, Jack (Betty) Belschwender,
Indianapolis, IN; Michael (Stephanie) Riggle, North Brook,
IL; and her faithful companion, Chip. She was preceded in
death by both her grandfathers, Jack Belsch-wender and Walter
Riggle.

Gertrude Thurman
Gertrude Thurman, 90, of Cincinnati passed away Friday, February
20, 2009 at the Mount Washington Care Center in Cincinnati.
She was born at Irvin in Lee County, Kentucky on October 2,
1918 the daughter of Matt and Nettie Smith Hamilton. She was
married to Chester Thurman on June 10, 1972 and he preceded
her in death on July 21, 1996.
Survivors include three brothers, Bill, Glen, and Kenneth
Hamilton all of Lexington, Kentucky; one sister Martha Freeman
also of Lexington, along with many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Thurman was a member of the Forestville Baptist Church
in Cincinnati. She was a former hostess for Hudsons
Department Store.
Funeral services are being held today, Tuesday at 11 a.m.
at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles. Burial
will be in the Washington Cemetery at Elrod. Visitation will
be Tuesday from 10 a.m. until time of services. Memorials
may be given to the Washington Cemetery in care of the funeral
home.
Judith Diane Schaefer
Judith Diane Schaefer, age 63, of Milan, passed away Friday,
February 6, 2009 at the Waters of Dillsboro. She was born
March 3, 1945 in Indianapolis, the daughter of Herman Schaefer
and Shirley Schafer Schaefer.
Survivors include two sisters, Debbi Schaefer, of Palm Harbor,
FL, and Patti (Jack) Keene, of Indianapolis.
Ms. Schaefer was employed at New Horizons in Batesville for
many years. She was currently a resident of the Milan Group
Home, and was loved by the staff and other residents.
A memorial service will be held Friday, February 27 at Hope
Baptist Church on Hwy. 50 in Dillsboro at 5:30 p.m. Filter-DeVries
Funeral Home in Dillsboro is in charge of arrangements.
Virginia (Jinnie) L. Phillippe
Virginia (Jinnie) L. Phillippe, 78, of Versailles passed away
Thursday, February 19, 2009 at Ripley Crossing in Milan. She
was born at Liberty in Casey County, Kentucky on March 29,
1930 the daughter of Ebert and Stella Garner Durham. She was
married to Jesse Phillippe on April 15, 1949 and he preceded
her in death on August 16, 2007.
Survivors include one son Jay (Leanna) Phillippe of Versailles;
one daughter Rita (George) Speigelhalder of Crothersville;
grandchildren Megan (Michael) Hastings of Indianapolis, Jessica
(Sean) Holtzclaw of El Paso, Texas, and A.J. Phillippe of
Versailles. She was also preceded in death by her parents,
and her brothers Paris, Paul, Dallon, and Corbert Durham.
Mrs. Phillippe was a homemaker and had driven a school bus
for the South Ripley Schools for 16 years. She was also a
member of the Shelby Christian Church and the Milan Rebekah
Lodge.
Funeral services were held on Monday, February 23 at the Stratton-Karsteter
Funeral Home in Versailles with Rev. Larry Joe DeWitt of the
First Christian Church of Scottsburg officiating. Burial was
in the Cliff Hill Cemetery in Versailles. Memorials may be
given to the Cliff Hill Cemetery in care of the funeral home.
Donald H. Young
Donald H. Young, 66, of Moores Hill, passed away Friday, February
13, 2009 at Dearborn County Hospital. He was born February
10, 1943 in Cincinnati, Ohio, the son of William Young and
Rosella Neiheisel Young. He married Carol Forbes on May 28,
1971 and she survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Anthony Wayne Young, of
Paint Lick, KY, and Donald H. (Michelle) Young, Jr., of Williamstown,
KY; one daughter, Susanne (Todd W.) Anderson, of Moores Hill;
one sister, Joyce Sprecker, of Cincinnati; and eight grandchildren.
Mr. Young was drafted into the US Army in May of 1967 and
served just short of 2 years during the Vietnam Conflict.
He retired from Cargill Salt Co. He enjoyed painting and woodworking,
and was an active member of the Vietnam Vets Chapter 71, and
a lifetime member of the VFW Post in Aurora/Rising Sun. He
and Carol were associated with the Grace Baptist Church in
Milan.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 17 at Filter-DeVries
Funeral Home in Dillsboro, with Pastor Charles Miller officiating.
Burial was in New Craven Cemetery. Memorials may be given
to the Vietnam Vets Chapter 71. Filter-DeVries Funeral Home
in Dillsboro was in charge of arrangements.
Audry Jean Clements
Audry Jean Clements, 77, of Rising Sun, passed away Thursday,
February 19, 2009 at Dearborn County Hospital. She was born
in Trimble County, Kentucky, the daughter of William Henry
and Leona Florence (Wingham) McCutchen. She married James
E. Clements on June 23, 1950 and he survives.
Other survivors include one son, Ronald H. (Paula) Clements
of Milan; two daughters, Alice C. Harper of Lawrenceburg and
Beverly J. (Ed) Garrett of Columbia City; two granddaughters,
Jessica A. (Chris) West of Wanesboro, MS, and Beth Harper
of West Lafayette; one brother, Ira (Nola) McCutcheon of Kent;
one sister, Rachel Ward of Versailles; and several nieces
and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and
one son-in-law, Terrence "Terry" Harper.
Mrs. Clements was a 1950 graduate of Cross Plains High School.
She was a homemaker and a resident of Rising Sun for the past
56 plus years. She loved to travel, having toured all the
states except Alaska. She took pride in quilting, crocheting
and needle work.
Markland Funeral Home in Rising Sun is in charge of arrangements.
Burial will be at the Vevay Cemetery. Memorials may be given
to the Rising Sun Life Squad or the American Cancer Society.
Gregory A. Baugh
Gregory A. Baugh, 37, of Versailles passed away Wednesday,
February 18, 2009 at St. Vincents Hospital in Indianapolis.
He was born at Greensburg on February 2, 1972 the son of Steven
and Lynn Hoban Baugh.
Survivors include his parents of Versailles; one brother David
(Lisa) Baugh of Versailles; niece and nephew Danielle and
Jacob Baugh; his paternal grandmother Emma Baugh of Greensburg.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather Keith
Baugh and his maternal grandparents Lavelle and Jean Hoban.
Mr. Baugh was a resident of Bluebird Estates in North Vernon.
A memorial service was held on Saturday, February 21 at the
Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Rev. Robb
Barlow of the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church at Shelbyville officiating.
Burial will follow at a later date in the Cliff Hill Cemetery

Travis Wm. Simers, 21, of Osgood, passed away Saturday, February
14, 2009. He was born November 3, 1987, the son of Larry Paul
and Brenda Lou Hollowell Simers.
Survivors include his parents, of Osgood; brother Tommy (Andrea)
Youngman, Jr., of Osgood; stepbrothers: Paul Simers of Arkansas
and Mike Simers of Indiana; sisters: Tina (Larry) Ashley of
Greensburg, Shelly (Brad) Sebastian of Osgood, Monica Malphrus
of Osgood; stepsister: Sherry Simers; grandparents: Betty
Culp of Oregon and Frances Simers of Osgood; great grandfather:
Sylvanus Palmer of Osgood.
Travis graduated from Jac-Cen-Del High School and had attended
the Southeastern Career Center in Versailles. He was a member
of the Sons of the American Legion in Osgood.

Ann Johnson Lewis
Ann Johnson Lewis, 73, of Osgood, passed away Thursday, February
12, 2009. She was born May 31, 1936 in Magffin County, Kentucky,
the daughter of Dewey and Delia Wages Keeton. She married
Robert Curtis Johnson on August 28, 1954 and he preceded her
in death on November 18, 1982. She then married Bob Lewis
and he also preceded her in death.
Survivors include four sons: Robert Terry Johnson, Paul Michael
(Pam) Johnson, Gregory Charles (Leann) Johnson and Timothy
Darrell (Elizabeth) Johnson, all of Osgood; two daughters:
Tammy Janelle (Mike) Rork of Osgood and Deborah Hoeferkamp
of Holton; sister: Jannette Wright of Osgood; 23 grandchildren
and 24 great grandchildren.
Mrs. Lewis was a member of Cedar Creek Church in Versailles.
She was a past employee of US Shoe in Osgood and also worked
at Muscatatuck State Hospital of Butlerville. Funeral services
were held Sunday, Feb. 15 at Cedar Creek Church in Versailles.
Burial was in Grandview Cemetery in Madison. Memorials may

Cleo Marie Myers
Cleo Marie Myers, 75, of Milan, passed away Sunday, February
15, 2009 at Ripley Crossing in Milan. She was born January
2, 1934 at Chickashaw, Oklahoma, the daughter of George Albert
and Ada Elizabeth (Phillips) Myers. She married Homer F. Myers
on March 8, 1960 and he preceded her in death on May 20, 1997.
Survivors include daughters: Teresa (Tony) Veldhaus of Milan
and Rose Marie (Jeff) Ickenroth of Aurora; sons: Frankie Lee
Myers of Wisconsin and James A. (Dana) Myers of Brookville;
brother: Charles Myers of Oregon; sisters: Rosalee Von Bima
of California and Joann Grajek of Texas; three grandchildren
and several great grandchildren. She was preceded in death
by her husband, one grandchild and one sister.
Mrs. Myers was a homemaker, a member of the Milan First Baptist
Church and a lifetime member of the Milan VFW Auxiliary.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 18, at 11
a.m. at Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home in Milan with Rev. Harris
Long officiating. VFW Auxiliary services will be at 10:45
a.m. Visitation will also be held Wednesday from 9-11 a.m.
at the funeral home. Burial will be in the New Craven Cemetery
in Milan. Memorials may be given to the Milan First Baptist
Church.

M. Landes
Grace M. Landes, 94, of Osgood passed away Sunday, February
8, 2009 at the Manderley Health Care Center in Osgood. She
was born at Otter Village in Center Township on May 10, 1914
the daughter of John and Maud Huntington Stork. She was married
to Roy Landes on April 15, 1934 and he preceded her in death
on April 8, 1950.
Survivors include one daughter Patricia (Pat) Thomas of Osgood;
two grandchildren Roy (Jan) Thomas and Karen (Tim) Wilburn
both of Osgood; great-grandchildren Niki Wilburn, Paige and
Riley Thomas; one great-great grandson Brady Alcorn; two sisters
Ruby (Raymond) Reibel and Virginia Miller both of Osgood.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her son-in-law William
Thomas, her brother John Stork, and her sisters Mildred Stork,
Elizabeth Stork, and Mary Smith.
Mrs. Landes was a 1932 graduate of Osgood High School and
a member of the Osgood United Methodist Church. She had been
employed with Diems Osgood Frozen Foods and also with
Rices Grocery in Osgood. She retired in 1983 to provide
care for her great grandchildren which she did until 2008.
Mrs. Landes had worked on the election board in Center Township
for 13 presidential elections, her last being in 2004. She
was also a faithful supporter of Jac-Cen-Del basketball and
attended games until the last few years.
Funeral services are being held today, Tuesday, at 1 p.m.
at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with
Dale Day of the Versailles Church of Christ officiating. Burial
will be in the Greendale Cemetery at Osgood. Visitation will
be Tuesday from 10 a.m. until time of services. Memorials
may be given to the Greendale Cemetery.
Rebecca J. (Becky) White
Rebecca J. (Becky) White, 46, of Versailles passed away Thursday,
February 5, 2009 at St. Vincents Hospital in Indianapolis.
She was born at Madison on January 1, 1963 the daughter of
Bill and Jeanie Friszell Moore.
Survivors include one son Andy (Brittany) Hartley of Vincennes;
grandson Carson Hartley; her father Bill Moore of Holton;
two brothers Billey (Janelle) Moore of Versailles and Daniel
Moore of Butlerville; nine sisters, Laura (Ron) Prosser, Mary
Sizemore, and Kim (James) Hoover all of Versailles, Francis
McRoberts, Sharon Roark, and Crystal (David) Gresham all of
North Vernon, Jennifer (Dave) Pennycuff and Cherry (Wayne)
Pyatt both of Butlerville, and Sherry (Bob) Best of Columbus.
She was preceded in death by her mother and her brother Frank.
Ms. White was a 1981 graduate of South Ripley High School
and a 1993 graduate of Ivy Tech. She had been employed with
LMS Contracting in Madison and was currently employed as a
bookkeeper for Dave OMara in North Vernon.
Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 9 at the Stratton-Karsteter
Funeral Home in Versailles. Burial was in the Tanglewood Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society in care
of the funeral home.
Elva B. Pruss
Elva B. Pruss, 83, formerly of Milan, passed away Saturday,
February 7, 2009 at Wesley Manor in Frankfort. She was born
October 22, 1925 in Moores Hill, the daughter of Bernard and
Florence (Rollins) Goodpaster. She married Norman W. Pruss
and he preceded her in death.
Survivors include son, Stephen Dale (Mary) Pruss of Michigan;
daughters, Connie Jo (Ron) Myers of Milan, Bonnie Jean (Rich)
Hartman of Frankfort; brothers, Bernard Lee Goodpaster of
New Mexico and Edward Eugene Goodpaster of Arizona; nine grandchildren
and 11 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. She was
preceded in death by one sister, Patricia Mae Goodpaster and
one brother, Rollin Dale Goodpaster.
Mrs. Pruss was a graduate of Moores Hill High School and was
a former member of the US Marine Corps. She was also a member
of the Moores Hill Baptist Church.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, Feb. 11 from 2-3 p.m. at
Moores Hill Baptist Church with funeral services immediately
following. Rev. Ron Mann will preside. Burial will be in the
Forest Hill Cemetery in Moores Hill. Military rites at graveside
will be provided by Milan American Legion Post #235.

Robert "Bob" Prather
Robert "Bob" Prather, 89, passed away Friday, February
6, 2009 at Clark Memorial Hospital in Jeffersonville. He was
the son of Grover E. and Anna Marie Prather.
Survivors include sons, Grover A. (Kay A.) Prather and Scott
(Jean) Prather, both of Versailles; daughter, Beverly (Prather)
(Meinrad) Sprigler of Sellersburg; stepson, Bill (Missy) Thompson
of Jeffersonville; stepdaughter, Jane (Dennis) Carrol of Oklahoma;
brother, Russell Prather of Sellersburg; sisters, Mary Jane
Gallman of Charlestown and Margaret Dreyer of Sellersburg;
28 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. He was preceded
in death by his parents; wives: Lotus Scott Thompson and Martha
Matthews Prather; and his daughter, Myra Leigh Tisdale.
Mr. Prather served his country during WWII as a CB operator
in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the Butlerville Baptist
Church and a 50-year member of Local 181 Operating Engineers.
He was a heavy equipment operator.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Feb. 11, at 11 a.m.
at the Garr Funeral Home in Sellersburg with entombment to
follow at Graceland Memorial Park in New Albany. Visitation
will be from 1-8 p.m. on Tuesday and after 9 a.m. on Wednesday.

Joyce VanWinkle
Joyce Van Winkle, 62, of Dillsboro, passed away Thursday,
February 5, 2009. Funeral services are being held today, Tuesday,
at 11:00 a.m. at Hope Baptist Church at Dillsboro, with Pastor
Tom Holt officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Sinai Cemetery.

Robert T. Armbruster, Sr.
Robert T. Armbruster, Sr., 78, of Aurora, passed away Saturday,
February 7, 2009 at his residence. He was born July 18, 1930
in Aurora, the son of Thomas Louis and Anna (Hauntz) Armbruster.
He married Jacqueline (Simmermeyer) Armbruster on September
8, 1951 and she survives.
Other survivors include sons, Robert T. Armbruster and James
G. Armbruster, both of Moores Hill, Thomas L. Armbruster,
Charles J. Armbruster and Joseph A. Armbruster, all of Aurora;
daughters, Cathy McGuire of Texas, Ginny Nigh of Shelbyville,
Janie Deck of Illinois, Margie Goley of Madison, Beverly Bridget
of Indianapolis, Lois Baglione of Ohio, Rita Armbruster of
Kentucky and Ellen Bruce of Moores Hill; brother, Jerome Armbruster
of Ohio; sister, Mary Ann Lowe of West Chester; 35 grandchildren
and ten great grandchildren.
Mr. Armbruster retired as an industrial mechanic for Ford
Motor Co. in Sharonville in 1986. He also worked at Fernald
and was a farmer. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and woodworking.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Feb. 11, at 10 a.m.
at St. Charles Catholic Church in Milan with Father Frank
Eckstein officiating. Burial will be in the Riverview Cemetery
in Aurora. Visitation is being held today, Tuesday, at Laws-Carr-Moore
Funeral Home in Milan from 6-8 p.m. with a rosary service
beginning at 5:30 p.m.

Jack H. Furst
Jack H. Furst, 73, of Holton, passed away suddenly on Friday,
February 6, 2009 in the Winter Haven Hospital, Winter Haven,
Florida. He was born March 19, 1935 in Cincinnati, Ohio, the
son of Harry Furst and Ida (Parker) Drysdale. He married Mildred
J. Christian on April 5, 1958 in North Vernon and she survives.
Other survivors include son, Jack R. Furst of Holton; daughter,
Kelley (Ed) Holler of Dupont; brother, Robert (Peggy) Furst
of Holton; seven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren;
several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death
by his parents; son, Randy Furst; and grandchild, Jamie Holler.
Mr. Furst was a 1953 graduate of Holton High School. He retired
from Cummins Engine Co. in Madison in 1996 and had previously
worked at Arvin Industries in North Vernon. He served as Otter
Creek Township Trustee for 16 years. He was a member of the
Holton Methodist Church and Ripley County Democrats.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m., Friday, Feb. 13, and Saturday,
Feb. 14 from 9 a.m. until time of service at the Holton Methodist
Church. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. at the church
with Pastor Alice Champion and Pastor Dennis Hadler officiating.
Memorials may be given to Holton United Methodist Church or

Paul E. Rork, Sr.
Paul E. Rork, Sr., 67, of Merrillville, passed away Tuesday,
February 3, 2009. He was born in Holton, the son of William
Arthur "Art" and Mabel Gertrude Rork.
Survivors include loving companion, Carol Burgess of Merrillville;
son, Paul Jr. (Theresa), of Indianapolis; grandchildren, Heather
of Indianapolis and Christopher of Annapolis, MD; and brother,
Clayton of Crittenden, KY. He was preceded in death by his
parents.
Mr. Rork attended the Versailles High School. He worked for
Schererville Steel and was a member of Iron Workers Union
#473.

Pauline McQueen, 72, of Milan, passed away Monday, February
9, 2009 at Margaret Mary Community Hospital in Batesville.
She was born December 27, 1936, the daughter of L.D. Bingham
and Ruby Watkins Bingham. She married Kenneth D. McQueen on
September 22, 1956 in Harrison, Ohio and he survives.
Other survivors include daughters, Elaine (Kenneth) Walston
of Versailles, Kim (Bryan) Carpenter of Sunman, and Tracey
(Greg) Bice of Milan; son, Bobby McQueen of Milan; nine grandchildren
and 13 great grandchildren; sister, Earnestine Short of Milan;
brothers, Bill Bingham of Grand Junction, CO, Bud Bingham
of Elrod, Bob Bingham of West Plains, MO, and Bennie Bingham
of Greensburg.
Mrs. McQueen was a homemaker and loving mother. She was a
member of the Cave Hill Church of God- Versailles.

Tanya Louise Good, 46, of Burlington, Kentucky, formerly of

Betty Lou Vinson, 74, of Batesville, formerly of Manchester,
passed away Wednesday, February 4, 2009. Funeral services

Everett Dean Emsweller, 76, of Batesville, passed away Thursday,

William
Hurst Lovins
William Hurst Lovins, 62, of Milan, passed away Saturday,
January 31, 2009 at Margaret Mary Hospital in Batesville.
He was born December 5, 1946 at Talcum, Kentucky, the son
of William Lovins and Hazel (Terry) Lovins. He married Carol
Jean (Knigga) Lovins on December 6, 1965 and she survives.
Other survivors include son, Tom (Becky) Lovins of Dillsboro;
daughter, Denise (Anthony) Roark of Dillsboro; mother, Hazel
Fugate of Osgood; and four grandchildren. He was preceded
in death by two brothers, Rodney and Troy Lovins.
Mr. Lovins was the superintendent for the Town of Moores Hill.
He was a member of Milan F&AM #31 Masonic Lodge.
Funeral services are being held today, Tuesday, at 11 a.m.
at St. Johns Lutheran Church at Farmers Retreat with
Pastor Richard Wilkie officiating. Burial will be in the church
cemetery at Farmers Retreat. Memorials may be given to St.
Johns Lutheran Church. Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home

Erma Eaglin
Erma Eaglin, 81, of Elrod, passed away Thursday, January 29,
2009 at her home. She was born near Milan on November 16,
1927 the daughter of Ernest and Marie Rupp Raffignone. She
was married to Ivan Eaglin on July 16, 1949 and he survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Terry (Rita) Eaglin of Versailles
and John (Debbie) Eaglin of Elrod; four grandchildren, Craig
(Stacey) Eaglin of Friendship, Corey (Krista) Eaglin of Elrod,
Mark (Stephanine) Percifield of Pinellas Park, Florida, and
Mindy (Brian) Bernahrdt of Clearwater, Florida; six great-grandchildren;
two brothers Lovell Lee Raffignone of Elrod and Lowell Raffignone
of Dillsboro. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Mrs. Eaglin was a 1945 graduate of Versailles High School.
She was a 75 year member of the Washington Baptist Church
and served on the Washington Cemetery board for several years.
She had also been the bookkeeper for Elrod Grain.
Funeral services were held Monday, February 2 at the Stratton-Karsteter
Funeral Home in Versailles. Burial was in the Washington Cemetery
at Elrod. Memorials may be given to the Washington Cemetery
in care of the funeral home.
Ralph Eugene Morton
Ralph Eugene Morton, 84, of Pleasant, passed away Wednesday,
January 28,2009 at Swiss Villa Nursing & Rehabilitation
Center in Vevay. He was born June 16, 1924 in Pleasant, the
son of Oliver Perry and Elizabeth (Westrick) Morton. He married
Carolyn Mae Copeland on November 10, 1945 and she survives.
Other survivors include two daughters: Rosemary (Garry) Jessup
and Rita (David) Shelley, both of Pleasant; one son: Ronald
(Darlene) Morton of Center Square; six grandchildren: Brian
and Robert Morton, Amy Combs, Andy Jessup, Adam and Jenna
Shelley; five great-grandchildren: Brittany, Kinley, Kallie,
Garrett and Shelby Morton; three step-grandchildren: Andrew,
Neal and Jacob Haskell; one step-great grandchild: Casen Haskell;
and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by
his parents; sisters: Frieda Laverne Kiesel and Mary Opal
Morton; brothers: Kenny and Curtis Leon "Shorty"
Morton.
Mr. Morton was raised in Pleasant and was a 1943 graduate
of Vevay High School. He was inducted in the United States
Navy on April 3, 1942, rising to the rank of Apprentice Seaman,
serving during WWII and was honorably discharged on July 17,
1943 at Great Lakes, Illinois. He owned and operated the Mortons
General Store in Pleasant from 1969-1984. Ralph was a soil
technician for the Ripley County Soil and Water Conservation
Office. He retired from the Jefferson Proving Ground in Madison
as an observer and as a high explosive technician in the assembly
branch.
Mr. Morton was a 50 year member of the Switzerland Lodge #122
F&AM and a member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis.
He was a member of the Brushy Fork Baptist Church in Pleasant,
where he served as a deacon for 34 years.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 31, at Brushy Fork
Baptist Church in Pleasant with Rev. Ron Lee officiating.
Burial was in Brushy Fork Cemetery in Pleasant. Military rites
were conducted by the honor guard of Jefferson Post #9 of
the American Legion at the cemetery. Masonic services were
conducted by the Switzerland Lodge #122 F&AM at the funeral
home. Memorials may be given to the Brushy Fork Baptist Church.

Fred Edward Emley
Fred Edward Emley, 73, of Moores Hill, passed away Saturday,
January 31, 2009, at his home. He was born November 27, 1930
in Middletown, Ohio, the son of Vernon and Nola Quinby Emley.
He married Dolores Erb on September 1, 1950 and she survives.
Other survivors include one son, Edward (Joyce) Emley of Cleves,
Ohio; two granddaughters, Lisa Sierra and Eve Emley; and three
great grandchildren.
Mr. Emley graduated from high school and attended college
at the Conservatory of Music studying trumpet. He joined the
US Navy and served his country for three years. He joined
the Cincinnati Fire Dept. and attained the rank of Lieutenant
before retiring in 1983. Following retirement he and his wife
moved to Moores Hill. Fred was the founder and publisher of
"Over 50 Magazine" until selling it to the Register
Publications. He was a proud member of the American Legion
Post 292 in Dillsboro and played the trumpet at military funerals
for years. He was a member of the Southeast Indiana Shrine-
Murat Temple. He was a past president of the S.E. Indiana
Shrine Club. He owned Queens Vineyard for several years
and was appointed to the board of SEI. He was a member of
Dillsboro Church of Christ and the Chamber of Commerce.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Feb. 4 at 12 noon
at Dillsboro Church of Christ. Visitation will be from 10
a.m. until time of services at the church. Burial will be
in the South Sparta Cemetery with full military rites by American
Legion Post 292. Memorials may be given to the Southeastern
Indiana Shrine Club. Filter-DeVries Funeral Home in Dillsboro
is in charge of arrangements.

Alvin Frederick Stegemiller, 90, of Batesville, passed away
Saturday, January 31, 2009. Funeral mass will be held Wednesday,
Feb. 4 at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Pius Church in Sunman with
Rev. Frank Eckstein officiating. Visitation is being held
today, Tuesday, from 4-8 p.m. at Cook Funeral Home in Sunman
with a rosary service at 7:30 p.m. Burial will be in the St.
Pius Church Cemetery with military honors. Memorials may be
given to the St. Pius Church. Cook Funeral Home in Sunman
is in charge of arrangements.
Lois O. Feller
Lois O. Feller, 103, formerly of Versailles, passed away January
27, 2009 at Woodland Hills. She was born September 1, 1905
at Chesterville, the daughter of Joseph and Mabel (Mackey)
Warner. She married Clarence Feller on August 23, 1924 and
he preceded her in death on September 29, 1994.
Survivors include three daughters: Christine Stuart of Leesburg,
FL, Martha Barrett of Versailles and Janet Webster of Greendale;
sister, Dorothy Kennedy of Lawrenceburg; eight grandchildren
and several great grandchildren. She was preceded in death
by her husband and two grandchildren.
Mrs. Feller was a member of the Church of Christ in Versailles.
Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 2, at Sibbett-Moore
Funeral Home in Moores Hill with Rev. Dale Day officiating.
Burial was in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Moores Hill. Memorials
