'09 JCD Eagle winter sports celebration is a memorable one

Gary Franklin, Sports Writer

Excitement continues to grace the Jac-Cen-Del Eagle lot, following their recent sports accomplishments. The hype during the annual winter sports award program would be no less exciting. The final morning of the three time rescheduled event, April 6, due to the boys State Championship Title claiming run, found disclosure that two Eagle seniors had also won the Ripley County Lilly Scholarships.
The two Ripley County full ride Lilly Scholarship recipients named in an early morning session at JCDHS were Gerald Hardesty and Valorie Wagner. Following Hardesty's notification and a meeting with his parents, he and the rest of the State Champion Class 1A Jac-Cen-Del Basketball Team were taken by charter bus to participate in the '09 Cincinnati Reds Opening Day Parade to join the JCDHS High School Band under the direction of Glenn Unklesby.
Following their departure, Valorie Wagner was notified that she too had captured the second scholarship available in our area. Neither scholarship award had anything to do with the basketball state championship, as all interviewing, etc., had preceeded the Eagle's run, however, the old cliche of "Winning breeds winning" comes to mind.
Congrats to both of the Eagle students on their accademic and athletic accomplishments.
