The originally scheduled Lady Raider varsity softball
team's season opener on Monday, April 6, against the Jennings
County Lady Panthers at JCHS was postponed due to inclement
weather. The result allowed the Lady Raiders to open their
'09 season at home where they battled the East Central Lady
                    Trojans on Wednesday, April 8.
With the weather still hanging on to a bit of wintry bite,
the game began. Anticipation of a solid season rang high for
the Raiders as the two teams met at the plate for the normal
referee outlining of ground rules for the field.
Once finished, the Lady Raiders took the field on defense
as the Lady Trojan's initiated their battery on the offensive
                    side.
Lady Raider star pitcher Kyla Sexton provided the special
delivery from the mound for the home team as EC entered the
                    batters box, one by one.
Other than Sexton on the mound, Lady Raider starters included
Janna Lloyd in left field, Katie Landwehr in center field
and Jacque Castner in right field. Covering the infield were
Erica Ester at third base, Kasey King handled the short stop
duties, Rebecca Bodenberg covered second base with Rachel
Mathes controlling the bag at first. Kaitlyn Welch took care
of business behind the plate as the Lady Raider catcher.
The game ended in extra inning action after being played to
a 1-1 tie through the regular seven innings. Yet tied through
eight, an unexpected Lady Trojan eruption in the top of the
ninth left the Lady Raiders down by a score of 7-1. That became
the final score as the Lady Raiders could not recover.
Lady Raider Sexton went the full 9 innings on the mound. Hits
during the game were by: Bodenberg with two, King one, Mathes
one, Welch one and Landwehr with an RBI that scored King for
the only Raider run of the game.
The Lady Raider scheduled varsity and JV games against the
Madison Consolidated Lady Cubs on Friday, April 10 and the
varsity and JV games scheduled for Saturday, April 11, against
