Gentry
JoAnn Gentry, age 67, of Alexandria, KY, formerly of the Aurora,
Lawrenceburg, and Dillsboro area, passed away Wednesday, April
22, 2009 at Hospice of Bluegrass at St. Luke East Hospital
in Ft. Thomas, KY. She was born in Dayton, KY on April 4,
1942 to Wilbert Bechtle and Vera Woodruff Bechtle. She married
George Robbins and he preceded her in death. In 1963 she married
Claude Gentry "Tobby" and he preceded her in death
in 1995.
Survivors include one son, Barry Gentry, of Alexandria, KY;
a grandson, Jeffrey Jason Robbins; a great grandson, Jeremy
Robbins; and many nieces and cousins. She was also preceded
in death by a son, Jeffrey Robbins.
Mrs. Gentry was a stay at home mom for several years. She
became an RN and worked in nursing homes in Indiana and Northern
Kentucky. In 2001 she moved to West Palm Beach, FL, and became
the nurse at Armour Correctional Center. In 2006 she moved
back to Northern Kentucky.
The funeral service was on April 25 at Filter-DeVries Funeral
Home in Dillsboro. Burial was private at Oakdale Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to her son Barry.
Eunice Stamper Hughes Stegemoller
Eunice Stamper Hughes Stegemoller, 88, of Olean, passed away
Monday, April 27, 2009 at the Waters of Dillsboro Manor. She
was born at Farmers Retreat on May 24, 1920 the daughter of
William and Nancy Mitts Stamper. She was married to Louis
Stegemoller of December 29, 1990 and he survives.
Other survivors include one daughter, Vesta Ryan of Dillsboro;
three sons, Rev. Sherman (Muriel) Hughes of Dillsboro, Charles
Hughes of Westville and George Hughes of Anderson; nine grandchildren;
14 great grandchildren and one great great grandson. She was
preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Nancy, and
her sisters Ila Dennis, Thelma Bruce and Helen Davies.
Mrs. Stegemoller was a 1937 graduate of Dillsboro High School.
She had worked at the Blue Star Manor in Dillsboro and was
also a cook at Dillsboro Manor retiring in 1982. She was a
member of the Bear Creek Baptist Church in Friendship where
she was active in the ABWM.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 30 at 11 a.m.
at the Bear Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Sherman Hughes
officiating. Burial will be in the St. Peters Cemetery
at Olean. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. at the
Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles and from 10
a.m. until time of services Thursday at the church. Memorials
may be given to the Bear Creek Baptist Church or St. Peters
Cemetery in care of the funeral home.

Joseph L. Collini, 66, of Moores Hill, passed away Thursday,
April 23, 2009. Funeral services are being held today, Tuesday,
at 11 a.m. at New Life Southern Baptist Church near Man-chester

Ann Stout
Michal Ann Stout, 62, of Osgood, formerly of Versailles, passed
away Monday, April 20, 2009 at St. Francis Hospital in Indianapolis.
She was born at Milan on April 17, 1947, the daughter of Clyde
and Ruth Bocock Gutman. She was married to Gerald Stout on
July 8, 1990 and he preceded her in death on February 11,
2006.
Survivors include one son, Christopher (Connie) Mitchell of
Bright; three daughters, Melissa Mitchell Brown of Lawrenceburg,
Kim Roark of Versailles and Ronetta Roark of Osgood; nine
grandchildren and four great grandchildren; four brothers,
Tony (Mary) Gutman and David (Rosemary) Gutman, both of Versailles,
Rudy Gutman of Ohio and Bob (Ida) Gutman of New York.
Mrs. Stout was a former accountant at the University of Cincinnati
and was a homemaker.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 23 at 1 p.m.
at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with
Dale Day officiating. Burial will be in the Oakdale Cemetery
at Dillsboro. Visitation will also be Thursday from 11 a.m.
until time of services. Memorials may be given to the Versailles

Alfred J. Feldman, 70, of Greensburg, passed away on Sunday,

Wayne Jones
L. Wayne Jones, 88, of Brazil, passed away unexpectedly, in
Osgood on Wednesday, April 8, 2009. He was born in Carbon
on May 28, 1920, the son of Roy Edward and Bertha Josephine
(White) Jones. He married Margaret Anne Fisher on November
4, 1944 and she preceded him in death in 2002.
Survivors include a son, Wayne L. Jones of Greencastle; two
daughters, Suzanne (Carl) Osborn of Danville and Josephine
J. Jones of Osgood; grandchildren, Meghan (Eric) Fox, Jennifer
(Brian) Luczywo, Lora (Andrew) Stouder and Amy Martin; and
11 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death his wife;
two brothers, Charles W. Jones and Richard M. Jones in infancy
and Roy Jones, Jr., in 1976; son, Norman P. Jones in 2007.
Mr. Jones graduated from Brazil High School with the class
of 1938. Following high school he worked for Nehi Beverage
Company until being drafted into the United States Army in
1941. He served in England during World War II being honorably
discharged in 1945. He worked as a Prudential Insurance Agent
in Brazil and Greencastle and as Purchasing Agent for IBM
in Greencastle and Boca Raton, FL, until retiring in 1980.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 2, was active
in the Color Guard as well as a life member of the Veterans
of Foreign Wars Post 1550, where he served as Past Commander,
Eagles Lodge 274, where he served as Past Worthy President
in 1950, 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge No. 541, B.P.O.
Elks Lodge No. 1077 and was active in the Greencastle Little
League Baseball from its inception until 1973.
Funeral services are being held today, Tuesday, at Lawson-Miller
Chapel and Crematory (1702 E. National Ave, Brazil, IN), at
1 p.m. with Rev. Andrew Stouder officiating. Burial will follow
at Calcutta Cemetery with military honors provided by the
Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1127 and American Legion Post
2 as well as members of the United States Army.
Rita Elinor (Pickel) McElroy
Rita Elinor (Pickel) McElroy, 78, of Cross Plains, passed
away Wednesday, April 8, 2009. She was born in Clay County,
Illinois on February 20, 1931. She married C. Gene McElroy
and he survives.
Other survivors include children, Michael W. (Paige) McElroy
and Julianna (Donnie) Bowling; grandchildren, Sarah (Mike)
Palma, Shane McElroy, Nicholas Miller and Meaghan McElroy;
great grandchildren, Michael Palma III, Wade Palma, Camron
Palma and Lea Miller; brother-in-law, Chris Pickel; and several
nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Friday, April 24, at Church of Christ,
200 W. Market St., Vevay, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. A visitation
and celebration of life service will be held Saturday, April
25 at Cincinnati Christian University Chapel, 2700 Glenway
Ave., Cincinnati, OH, 45204 from 1:30 p.m. until time of service
at 3 p.m. Donations may be sent to Cincinnati Christian University.

Stephen Ray Livingston
Stephen Ray Livingston, 56, of Fishers, formerly of Milan,
passed away Thursday, April 9, 2009, at home. He was born
January 14, 1953, in Milan, the son of Charles T. Livingston
and Melvena (Keith) Livingston.
Survivors include son, Charlie (Gina) Livingston of Fishers;
brother, Tim Livingston of Sunman; sisters, Patricia (Hershel)
Byrd of Milan and Connie (Gene) Taylor of Indianapolis; and
one grandchild.
Mr. Livingston was a retired US Army Veteran and had served
in both US Army and Marine Corp. He was a member of the Disabled
American Veterans.
Funeral services are being held today, Tuesday, at 11 a.m.
at Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home in Milan with Pastor Tom Holt
officiating. Burial will be in the Craven Cemetery. Visitation
will be from 9-11 a.m. at the funeral home, also on Tuesday.
Memorials may be given to the Disabled American Veterans.

Elmer Meier
Elmer Meier, 84, of Dewberry passed away Friday, April 10,
2009 at the Dillsboro Manor. He was born at Dewberry in Brown
Township near Cross Plains on August 21, 1924 the son of Ernest
and Elizabeth Klusman Meier.
Survivors include a nephew and great-nephews and nieces. He
was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters Hilda
Meier and Elfreida Smith.
Mr. Meier was a lifelong member of St. Pauls Lutheran
Church in Dewberry and was a long time employee of the Ripley
County Farm Bureau where he worked at the Cross Plains branch
and also for Triple R Feeds at Cross Plains. He was a retired
farmer and had spent his entire life in the Dewberry and Cross
Plains communities.
Funeral services are being held today, Tuesday, at 10:30 a.m.
at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Dewberry with Pastor Ralph
Canpen officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until time of services Tuesday
at the church. Memorials may be given to the church in care
of the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles.

Donald Lawrence Browning, 75, of Batesville, passed away Wednesday,
April 8, 2009. Funeral services are being held today, Tuesday
at 11 a.m. at the Wesleyan Church in Greensburg. Burial will

George L. Hummel, 67, of Moores Hill, passed away on Wednesday,
April 8, 2009. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April
18 at 2 p.m. at Papaws Family Farm, 15671 Lewis Rd.,
Moores Hill, IN. (In the event of rain, services will be held
at the Moores Hill Fire Dept.) There will be no burial as
the body is being donated to the Cincinnati Anatomical Department.

Lonnie
Tyler, 65, of North Vernon, passed away on Wednesday, April
1, 2009 at St. Catherine Regional Hospital in Charlestown.
She was born February 13, 1944 in Kentucky, the daughter of
the late Charlie and Mary (Simpson) Gunter.
Survivors include four sons, Roy Dale Brown, Floyd Lynn Brown,
Kenny Lee Brown, and Ricky Dean Brown, all of North Vernon;
four brothers, Roy Gunter and Ray Gunter of Holton, Gene Gunter
and Willis Gunter of North Vernon; two sisters, Brenda Sandlin
of North Vernon and Susan Rice of Versailles; three grandchildren
and four great grandchildren.
Ms. Tyler was a homemaker and enjoyed gardening and fishing.
There will be no services. The family will host a gathering
at Holton Fire House on Saturday, April 11, at 1 p.m. Family
and friends are welcome. Sawyer-Pickett Funeral & Cremation
Service was in charge of arrangements.
Dennis Loren Vanderbur
Dennis Loren Vanderbur, 75, of Greensburg, passed away Friday,
April 3, 2009 at Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center at
Indianapolis. He was born August 28, 1933 in Greensburg, the
son of Nolan & Minnie Pearl (McKelvey) Vanderbur.
Survivors include: companion, Ruth Coble of St. Paul; one
daughter, Peggy Ann (Mike) Bishop of Versailles; two sons,
Dennis Jay Vanderbur of Columbus and Kenneth Loren (Sandy)
Vanderbur of Indianapolis; one step daughter, Samantha (Bryson)
Walke of Batesville; two step sons, James (Sarah) Coble of
St. Paul and Shannon (Jill) Scott of Greensburg; two sisters,
Blanche Wells of Greensburg and Marjorie Moore of Fowler;
one brother, Edgar (Alma) Vanderbur of Greensburg; and 14
grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two
sisters, Ruth Irene Kelly and Leota Mae Moore; three brothers:
Nolan "Pete" Vanderbur, Jr., Floyd Ernest Vanderbur
and Earl W. Vanderbur.
Mr. Vanderbur was a lifelong resident of Decatur County. He
graduated from Sandcreek High School and was a veteran having
served in the US Army. Dennis was a lifelong farmer and a
member of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church. He enjoyed
fishing, playing cards and spending time with his family.
Funeral services were held Monday, April 6, at Bass &
Gasper Funeral Home in Westport with burial in the Burks
Chapel Cemetery with military graveside rites. Memorial contributions
may be made to the Ripley County Red Cross through the Bass
Gasper Funeral Home of Westport.

Mary Caproni, 69, of Florida, formerly of Milan, passed away
on Monday, March 23, 2009. Heritage Gardens Funeral Home in
Niceville, Florida was in charge of arrangements. Burial was
in Dorcas Cemetery in Florida on March 27, 2009. Memorials

James Irvin Schuler
James Irvin Schuler, 81, of Versailles, passed away Sunday,
April 5, 2009 at his residence. He was born April 22, 1927
in Aurora, the son of George Christopher and Ardell Thalheimer
Schuler. He married Glenna Mae Hartig on March 31, 1951 at
Napoleon and she survives.
Other survivors include six sons: Michael (Caroline) Schuler,
Robert (Jane) Schuler, Ricky (Mary) Schuler, all of Napoleon,
Dennis (Sheila) Schuler of North Vernon, William (Terri) Schuler
of Osgood, Joel (Amy) Schuler of Colorado; three daughters:
Cathy Richmond of Greensburg, Brenda (Matt) Nickell of Las
Vegas, NV, Trina Kohlmeier of Lawrenceburg; 21 grandchildren
and 14 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his
parents, one son: Thomas Eugene Schuler, and two brothers:
George and Paul Schuler.
Mr. Schuler was a WWII Army veteran, member of Napoleon VFW
and a member of the St. Charles Catholic Church in Milan.
He retired from Jefferson Proving Ground of Madison, where
he had worked for 26 years. He farmed in the Napoleon area
from 1952-1975.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 8 at 11 a.m.
at St. Johns Catholic Church of Osgood. Burial will
be in the St. Maurice Catholic Cemetery in Napoleon. Visitation
is being held today, Tuesday, from 5-8 p.m. at Neals
Funeral Home in Osgood, with rosary service at 7:30. Memorials

Hazel Fugate
Hazel Fugate, 87, of Osgood, passed away Friday, March 27,
2009. She was born in Knott County, Ky., on August 6, 1921,
to Troy Terry and Sadie Ritchie Terry. She married Delbert
Fugate and he preceded her in death.
Survivors include five grandchildren: Tom Lovins, Denise Roark,
Joe Lovins, Wynona Lovins and Troy Lovins, Jr.; eight great
grandchildren; three brothers: Bill, Frank and Grady Terry;
and three sisters: Elma Hawkins, Thelma Terry and Eva Napier.
She was also preceded in death by children: Troy Lovins, Rodney
Lovins, and Bill Lovins; grandchildren: Traci Lovins and Billy
Lovins; and brothers: Russell, Dan and Sam Terry.
Funeral services were held Monday, March 30 at Hindman Funeral
Services Chapel in Kentucky. Burial was in Little Jink Ritchie
Cemetery in Talcum, Kentucky.
Victoria Ruth Richards
Victoria Ruth Richards, 18, Napoleon, passed away on Thursday,
April 2, 2009 at the Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.
Born, June 14, 1990 in Batesville, she was the daughter of
Howard Steven and Carolyn J. (McCullough) Richards.
Victoria was a senior at Jac-Cen-Del High School where she
was a member of the National Honor Society, a five year member
of the Flag Team, a member of the Drama Club and Art Club.
She had been a member of the Tree County Players for several
years. She was a member of the St. Maurice Catholic Church
in Napoleon.
She is survived by her mother, Carolyn Richards, Napoleon;
two brothers, Jacob Howard (Carla) Richards, Westport, Lucas
Steven Richards, Napoleon; one sister, Sarah Alyse (Garric)
Folsom, Westport; grandmother, Anna McCullough, Greensburg;
step grandmother, Janice Deffenbaugh, Hume, Il.; one aunt
living with the family, Kim Isaacs, and several other aunts
and uncles.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Visitation will be from 3-8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Porter-Oliger-Pearson
Funeral Home in Greensburg. A public rosary will be prayed
at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday,
April 8, 2009 at the St. Maurice Catholic Church in Napoleon
with Rev. Rob Hankee officiating.
Interment will be held in the St. Maurice Catholic Cemetery
in Napoleon, Indiana.
Memorials may be made to Victorias favorite charity
the Decatur County Relay for Life.

Mildred Thornton
Mildred Thornton, 87, of Versailles passed away Thursday,
April 2, 2009 at the Ripley Crossing in Milan. She was born
at Hamilton, Ohio on October 24, 1921 the daughter of Clinton
and Emma Gratiney Huffman. She was married to Noah Thornton
on July 24, 1939 and he preceded her in death on June 3, 1989.
Survivors include four sons, John (Ellen) Thornton of Versailles,
Bill (Ann) Thornton of Kokomo, Richard (Mary Ellen) of Adel,
Georgia, Jerry (Kathi) Thornton of Milan; two daughters, Sandra
(Gary) Hale of Henderson, Colorado, and Janise (Charlie) Blitch
of Tampa, Florida; 12 grandchildren Bo, James, Jeff, Andy,
Samantha, Rick, Johnnie, and Nancy Thornton, Nathan Hale,
Tammy=0 Schwagmeier, Tim Ryan, and Tina Ashe, and 16 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her brother Clyde and her sister
Deana.
Mrs. Thornton was a homemaker and a member of the North Vernon
Seventh Day Adventist Church. She was a community leader in
her church at Zephyr Hills, Florida and Deer Lodge, Tennessee.
Funeral services were held Sunday, April 5 at the Stratton-Karsteter
Funeral Home in Versailles with Pastor Manny Ojeda and Pastor
Gary Case officiating. Burial was at Collinsville, Ohio. Memorials
may be given to the activities fund at Ripley Crossing or
the Ripley County Humane Society.
