Raider Thad Fleming claims Regional T&F Discus Throw first
place while tying SR school record
Gary Franklin, Sports Writer
"SR Raider Track & Field team member Thadaus
Fleming is only the fourth trackman representative to qualify
for state level T&F competition, states Coach Sam Durham.
Fleming lofted the Discus for a distance of 158' 11"
in his first place winning regional event which gave him a
tie for the South Ripley HS all time record throw as well.
Fleming has worked most dilligently this entire season to
improve his distances in both the Discus and Shot Put competitions.
By doing so, he also qualified to regional competition from
the sectional with a fourth place overall distance toss of
the Shot Put.
We wish Thad well at the state competition which will feature
his event on Friday, June 5 at 3 p.m. at the Indiana University,
Bloomington Campus.

Raiders light up the ball field with their bats in sectional
game one bid
Gary Franklin, Sports Writer
A weather forced delay of the South Ripley Raider
vs Switzerland County Pacer intended sectional baseball hosted
by Lawrenceburg HS, caused the scheduled game to become a
Saturday morning affair.
A scoreless game after the Pacers had batted in their third
inning led to an explosion by Raider batters, resulting in
a 7-0 score by innings end.
With bases loaded, Raider senior Andy Miller stepped into
the batters box, only to be nailed by a pitch, forcing home
the first run of the game. That was followed by senior Jared
Keck stepping into the batters box to deliver the ever desired
long ball for a Grand Slam, clearing the base path and moving
the Raiders to a 5-0 count.
Not ready to cease the fun, Raider Blake Richmond singled
and senior Thomas Welch stepped in the batters box to deliver
a second Raider Home Run of the inning, taking the Raider
lead to 7-0.
The inning ended after batting all the way around as Kile
Huss went down on strikes, Chase Grider grounded to first
and lead off batter of the inning Tyler Landwehr flew out
for the third out.
Raider Brian Thomas walked SC's first batter in the top of
the fourth and was singled on by the second, leading to an
error on Jerad Walters in left field that allowed the Pacers
to get on the scoreboard before being retired. A second run
was added by SC before they were retired.
An uneventful SC fourth & fifth inning led to another
Raider score in the bottom of the Raider fifth for the 8-2
lead.
Again Thomas held the Pacers in their sixth inning at bat
and again, SR added another run in the bottom for a 9-2 edge
heading to the top of the seventh.
Raider Thomas on the mound retired the Pacers in the seventh
with a 1-3 put out and 2 K's to clinch the 9-2 victory.
