Friday, June 19 and Saturday, June
20 the Holton Community Park will be the focal point for entertainment
as the Jamboree gets underway. Once again the Ripley County Showmobile
will roll onto the grounds and provide the stage for entertainers.
A group calling themselves the Holton Hometowners have been working
for an entire year getting plans complete for the event that will
showcase family fun through a variety of stage entertainment,
games, and tournaments.
Friday evening the festivities will kick off at 5 p.m. with the
band Over the Edge taking the stage. This will be followed with
the Strawhat Sam and Sunbonnet Sue Contest at 7 p.m. This is for
boys and girls ages 4 and 5. The girls are traditionally dressed
in old fashioned attire, complete with a bonnet. The boys are
free to wear bibs and a strawhat. You can call Alice McEvoy at
689-5968 or Cindy Moore at 767-4492 to register.
Following the naming of the 2009 Strawhat Sam and Sunbonnet Sue,
the popular group, Hoosier Hills Bluegrass will perform (from
8 p.m. to 10 p.m.).
Saturday stage entertainment will include an open stage for anyone
wanting to perform, along with karaoke. Groups or individuals
can call 689-5623 or 689-6844 if interested.
A euchre tournament will get underway at noon, followed by a corn
hole tournament at 2 p.m. The featured stage entertainment for
the evening will be Centerline Band starting at 8 p.m.
Throughout the two day festival there will be games, food, hourly
drawings for prizes, a fantastic bake sale, bouncers, dunk tank
and more.
Vendors wanting to set up a booth can still call Wilma Myers at
689-6844 to reserve a space.
Come bring your lawn chair and kick back for an evening of free
entertainment as the town celebrates summer with the festival
that promotes family fun.
