'09 Raider graduate Jared Keck signs a Letter of Intent with IU Southeast

Gary Franklin, Sports Writer

At his home near Versailles, recent '09 South Ripley High School graduate Jared Keck made his college preference selection official, with the signing of a Letter of Intent with Indiana University Southeast of New Albany.
Beginning with the fall semester, he will take on a new role and uniform as a member of the Grenadiers baseball team, while pursuing a major in economics.
Keck and his father have enjoyed the sport of baseball from a young age and now find the game being able to help further Jared's education as he moves into the future.
Keck has enjoyed solid leadership and positivity from both former Coach Rodney Hite and current Coach Greg Hughes over his last two years of high school baseball, and states that they have each been very helpful in availing this type of an opportunity for him.
Young Keck's opportunity on the baseball field will be behind new IU Southeast Grenadiers Head Baseball Coach Ben Reel. Reel's hometown was Dillsboro. He graduated from South Dearborn in 2002. There he was a three year starting catcher for the Knights where he earned EIAC All-Conference First Team and All Region honors.
Coach Reel, at 25, is one of the youngest head coaches in collegiate baseball.
As a native of Aurora, one of Coach Reel's assistant coaches, Andrew Stanley, also in his first year at IU Southeast, was an area graduate of South Dearborn High School.
Stanley too played all four years of high school as a member of the Knights baseball team. His duties now include working with the outfielders, recruiting and academic success.
Other current local members of the Grenadiers baseball team include: Brent Bennett of Madison, Alex Brewer, Derek Mills and Alex Sedam of North Vernon, Paul Dunagan of Greensburg and Kyle Bishop and D.J. Hutchinson of Lawrenceburg.
IU Southeast has an enrollment of 6482 students. It is affiliated with the NAIA and a conference member of the KIAC (Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Association)
We wish Keck much success in his new role as a member of the IU Southeast Grenadiers crimson & cream.
