Esther L. Dennis
Esther L. Dennis, 93, a lifelong resident of Bear Branch, passed away Tuesday, June 23, 2009 at Ripley Crossing in Milan. She was born on April 15, 1916 in Bear Branch to Henry Sommer and Adelia Longcamp Sommer. On May 16, 1936 she married Frank L. Dennis and he preceded her in death on May 15, 1974.
Survivors include one daughter, Judy (John) Race, of Bear Branch; a son-in-law, Everett (Janet) Walton, of Rising Sun; two grandchildren, Heather Race, of Bear Branch, and LeeAnn (Mark) Boggs, of Vevay; one great grandaughter, Carlee Boggs; one brother, Earl (Aldine) Sommer, of Bear Branch; and one sister, Juanita Hill, of Dillsboro. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her daughter, Wanda Walton; and one brother, Alfred Sommer.
Mrs. Dennis attended school in Bear Branch, was a lifelong member of St. Peters Lutheran Church in Bear Branch. She was a retired homemaker.
Funeral services will be Friday, June 26, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peters Lutheran Church in Bear Branch. Burial will be in Althoff-Marker Cemetery in Bear Branch. Visitation is being held today, Thursday, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Filter-DeVries Funeral Home in Dillsboro. Memorials may be given to St. Peters Lutheran Church, St. Peters Cemetery Fund, or to a charity of the donors choice. Filter-DeVries Funeral Home in Dillsboro is in charge of arrangements.

Nancy Carol Mergenthal
Nancy Carol Mergenthal, 62, of Indianapolis, passed away Saturday, June 20, 2009. Funeral services will be held Friday, at 11 a.m. at St. John UCC in Batesville with Rev. David Johnston and Rev. Bob Reister officiating. Visitation is being held today, Thursday, from 5-8 p.m. at Meyers Funeral Home at Batesville and one hour prior to services at the church on Friday. Burial will be in St. John Huntersville Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Hearing Loss Assoc. of America in care of the funeral home. Meyers Funeral Home in Batesville is in charge of arrangements.

Willard Roberts, Sr.
Willard Roberts Sr., 90, of St. Petersburg, FL, formerly of Lawrenceburg, passed away Sunday, June 21, 2009 in Florida. He was born January 18, 1919 in Rockcastle County, KY to Joe Roberts and Lilly Ward Roberts. He was married to Margaret Cash Roberts, and she survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Willard E. (Linda) Roberts Jr. "Gene", of Okeana, OH, and Gregory I. (Linda) Roberts, of Viera, FL; six grandchildren; five great grandchildren; one sister, Ora Alsop, of Cross Plains; two sisters-in-law, Margaret Roberts and Laverne Cutter. He was preceded in death by one brother, David "John" Roberts.
Mr. Roberts was employed for many years at E.I. Dupont prior to his retirement. Willard and Margaret have resided in St. Petersburg for 25 years, moving there from Lawrenceburg. He was a member of the Elks Lodge for over 40 years, and he and Margaret enjoyed square dancing. They attended many square dance conventions over the years.
Funeral services will be Friday at 3:00 p.m. at Oakdale Cemetery in Dillsboro, with visitation at Filter-DeVries Funeral Home in Dillsboro from 1:30 to 2:45 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. Connie McEvoy
Connie S. McEvoy, 52, of Holton passed away Monday, June 15, 2009 at her home. She was born at Charleston, South Carolina on February 23, 1957 the daughter of R. Keith and Pauline Weintraut Smith. She was married to Stephen McEvoy on February 14, 1989 and he survives.
Other survivors include her mother Mrs. Pauline Smith of Shelbyville; four sons Mark McEvoy of Holton, Kris (Danielle) Swain of Holton, Mike McEvoy of Napoleon, and Tom Ogden of Indianapolis; one daughter Mindy Bowling of Indianapolis; seven grandchildren; mother-in-law, Alice McEvoy; four sisters Lynda (Darrell) Curson of Bloomington, Valerie (Terry) Coen of Morristown, Teresa (Roger) Moore of Waldron, and Marcey (Jimmie) McCoy of Louisiana; three brothers Jim (Diana) Smith and Clifford (Pam) Smith both of Waldron, and Jeff (Cheri) Smith of Greensburg. She was preceded in death by her father.
Mrs. McEvoy was a 1975 graduate of Waldron High School and was a 25 year employee of Print Pak in Greensburg.
Funeral services are being held today, Thursday, at 10 a.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Rev. Karen Reynolds of the New Marion Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in the Greendale Cemetery at Osgood. Memorials may be given to the donors choice.

Opal Hamilton
Opal Hamilton, 97, of Rexville, passed away Monday, June 8, 2009 at the Manderley Health Care Center in Osgood. She was born at Brooksburg on June 15, 1911, the daughter of Harry and Carrie Bliton Christman. She was married to Thomas Hamilton on July 12, 1928 and he preceded her in death on June 7, 1977.
Survivors include one daughter, Jane Hance of Rexville; one son, David (Donna) Hamilton of Rexville; five grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; and eight great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Roscoe Christman, her sister Ruth Meisberger, and her son-in-law John Hance.
Mrs. Hamilton had worked as a nurses aide at Kings’ Daughter’s Hospital and also at the Silver Bell Nursing Home. Along with her husband, she had also owned and operated Hamilton’s Grocery in Rexville. She was a member of the Calvary Wesleyan Church in Madison.
Funeral services will be held Friday, June 12, at 10:30 a.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Rev. Wayne Mahoney of Calvary Wesleyan officiating. Burial will be in the Grandview Memorial Garden at Madison. Visitation is being held today, Thursday, from 5-8 p.m. Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society or the Calvary Wesleyan Church in care of the funeral home.

Rosemary "Rosie" Kathan
Rosemary (Rosie) Kathan, 83, of La Crescent, MN, passed away Monday, June 8, 2009 at the Caledonia Care and Rehab Center in Caledonia, MN. She was born on July 8, 1925 in Milan, the daughter of Otto and Mary Elizabeth (Walker) Kinnett. She married Ralph Kathan on March 28, 1948 in La Crosse, and he preceded her in death in 2006.
Survivors include two sons, Richard (Debra) of Hudson, WI, and Gerald (Carol) of La Crescent, MN; five grandchildren, Scott of Hudson, WI, Angela (Michael) Martini of River Falls, WI, Andrew- serving with the US Army in Iraq, Bailey of Brookfield, WI, and Levi of La Crescent, MN; and two great grandchildren, Anthony and Elizabeth Martini of River Falls, WI. She was preceded in death by her husband, a grandson- Aaron Kathan, a brother- Forrest Kinnett, and a sister- Glenna Ferris.
Mrs. Kathan graduated from Milan High School and completed nurse’s training in Cincinnati, Ohio. She worked as an inspector at the Allis Chalmers plant in La Crosse for a number of years, and then partnered with her husband to run Ridgeview Apple Orchands in La Crescent. She also raised and sold raspberries on the farm for a number of years. She was a member of the La Crescent United Methodist Church and an active volunteer at the La Crescent Public Library.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, June 12 at 11 a.m. at the La Crescent United Methodist Church with Pastor Don Iliff officiating. Burial will be in the Prospect Hill Cemetery, La Crescent. Friends may call at the church on Friday from 10 a.m. until time of services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the La Crescent Public Library.

Anna Mae Bustle
Anna Mae Bustle, 77, of Jesup, Georgia, formerly of Versailles, passed away Sunday, June 7, 2009 at the Brunswick Southeast Georgia Medical Center. She was born near Correct on October 6, 1931 the daughter of Roy and Clara Hughes Handlon. She was married to Tom Bustle and he preceded her in death on April 18, 1999.
Survivors include three daughters Linda (Jesse) Owens of Jessup, Georgia, Sherri (Jerry) Dolan of White, Georgia, and Patti (Richard) Blankenship of Soldotna, Alaska; eight grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; three step-sons, Dean Bustle of Dabney, Jack Bustle of Holton, and Wayne Bustle of Louisville.
Mrs. Bustle was retired as a retail clerk for K Mart in Gainesville, Florida and was a member of the Faith Chapel in Jessup. Funeral services are being held today, Thursday, at 12:30 p.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Mrs. Bustle’s grandson Rev. Thomas Anderson officiating. Burial will be in the New Marion Cemetery. Visitation is also today from 10:30 a.m. until time of services. Memorials may be given to ARDS or the New Marion Cemetery in care of the funeral home.
