The application for a special exception to permit a cemetery at 2572 W. County Road 800 S. in Versailles was considered by the Board of Zoning Appeals at the regular meeting held on Tuesday, July 28. The application for the special exception was submitted by Christ Stolzfoos, who will be the caretaker of the cemetery.

Stolzfoos also submitted an application for a variance from the required ten acres to one acre for the same cemetery. The BZA approved the variance as well as granted the special exception with a vote of 3-0-1 with Maureen Sheets abstaining before the application was considered.

The board also granted the variance request submitted by Robert and Connie Hunger from the required side line setback of 20 feet to 10 feet in order to permit the construction of a pole building at 3365 W. County Road 250 S in Versailles. According to Robert Hunger, the proposed site is the best location for the pole barn because buried electric cables prohibit building at the required setback.

Also the pole barn will be too close to the house if built at the county requirements. The board unanimously granted the variance.

All board members were in attendance with Mike Baker absent. The next BZA meeting will be held on Tuesday, August 25 beginning at 7 p.m. in the meeting room of the courthouse annex.
