Anna E. Lewis
Anna E. Lewis, 88, of Milan, passed away Friday,
August 21, 2009 in Columbus. She was born at Napoleon, on
June 1, 1921, the daughter of Edward and Cecil (Truitt) Palmer.
She married Gilbert A. Murray and later Estile Lewis. Both
preceded her in death.
Survivors include three sons, Harold (Lori) Murray of Columbus,
Gayle (Alexis) Murray of Ft. Mitchell, Ky., and Dennis (Teresa)
Lewis of Dillsboro; brother, Leon Palmer of Florida; sister,
Marie Schmaltz of Osgood; sister-in-law, Carol Lee Palmer
of California; six grandchildren; seven great grandchildren;
and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death
by her husbands, brothers: Warren, Darrell and Ralph Palmer,
and sister, Dorothy Bley.
Mrs. Lewis had worked at Thayers Dry Cleaners and Vines Poultry
in Osgood for several years, and was a homemaker. She was
a member of the Milan First Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held Monday, August 24, at Laws-Carr-Moore
Funeral Home in Milan with Rev. Harris Long officiating. Burial
was in the Craven Cemetery at Milan. Memorials may be given
to the Hospice of South Central Indiana. Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral
Home in Milan was in charge of arrangements.

Eileen Huber, 70, of Batesville, passed away
Thursday, August 20, 2009. Funeral services were held Monday,
August 24 at Meyers Funeral Home in Batesville with burial
in the St. John Church Cemetery in Penntown. Memorials may

George Michael Jr.
George Michael, Jr., 80, of Burlington, Ky.,
passed away Saturday, August 21, 2009 at his residence.
Survivors include his wife Mary Jo Michael of Burlington;
daughter, Cindy Jo Beard of Florence; sons, Jerry Dean Michael
of Union and Bob Wm. Michael of Independence; brother, Carl
Michael of Walton; ten grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son, Stephen Thomas Michael.
Mr. Michael was a retired transport operator with Consolidated
Freightways of Nashville, Tennessee. He was a member of Florence
#949 F&AM Masonic Lodge.
Visitation will be Wednesday, August 26, from 5-7 p.m. at
Linnemann Funeral Home in Burlington. Masonic service will
be at 7:15 p.m. Wednesday, with funeral service to follow
at the funeral home. Burial will be at Floral Hills Memorial
Gardens. Memorials may be given to the donors choice.

Janet M. Bressert
Janet M. Bressert, 67, of Versailles passed
away Wednesday, August 19, 2009 at the Dearborn County Hospital.
She was born at Dayton, Ohio on January 23, 1942 the daughter
of Earl and Doris Hiler Biddle. She was married to Charles
(Chuck) Bressert on September 11, 1964 and he survives.
Other survivors include one son Bob (Heather) Bressert of
Aurora; two daughters Carla Huff of Osgood and Darla (Jeremy)
Lathrem of Deputy; grandsons Curtis Bressert, Tristan Davies,
Keith Huff, and Brady Lathrem; granddaughters Morgan Bressert
and Autumn Lathrem; one sister Sue (Chuck) Huddleston of Versailles,
one brother Joe (Mary) Biddle of Denver, CO. She was preceded
in death by her parents, her brothers David and Doug Biddle,
and her nephew David Wayne Biddle.
Mrs. Bressert was a 1960 graduate of Cross Plains High School.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Cross Plains Church
of Christ. She enjoyed golfing, bowling, knitting, crocheting
and playing cards.
Funeral services were held Saturday, August 22 at the Stratton-Karsteter
Funeral Home in Versailles with Rev. Tom Fehrman officiating.
Burial was in the Grandview Memorial Garden near Madison.
Memorials may be given to Rescue 69 or the American Cancer
Society.

Lou
M. Hendricks
Lou M. Hendricks, 86, of Greenwood, formerly of Franklin and
Indianapolis, passed away Sunday, August 9, 2009. She was
born June 1, 1923 in Letcher Co., Kentucky, the daughter of
the late James M. and Loretta Caudill Halcomb. She married
Robert Peters and he preceded her in death in December of
1944. She then married R. Dale Hendricks on August 18, 1946,
in Indianapolis and he preceded her in death on September
15, 1994.
Survivors include sons, James E. (Jerri) Peters of Greenwood
and Robert D. Hendricks II of Indianapolis; daughter, Linda
L. Burchfield of Indianapolis; grandchildren: Cori (Pat) Clossey,
Doug Peters, Chad (Erin) Peters, and Michael (Emily) Burchfield;
six great grandchildren; sister, Orella Whicker of Indianapolis;
and brother, George M. (Shirley) Halcomb of Versailles. She
was also preceded in death by grandson, Brian (Lisa) Burchfield;
and brothers, Albert and Doug Halcomb.
Mrs. Hendricks was a member of the Southport United Methodist
Church and a 50-year member of Versailles Chapter No. 333
Order of Eastern Star.
Funeral services were held Thursday, August 13, at Singleton
Community Mortuary and Memorial Center with burial in the
Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Glenns Valley. Memorials may be given
to the Southport United Methodist Church.
Beatrice Boyd
Beatrice Boyd, 87, of Holton, passed away Thursday, August
13, 2009 at her home. She was born at Osgood on August 22,
1921, the daughter of Everett and Louise Stegmann Beach. She
was married to Donald Boyd on September 19, 1953 and he preceded
her in death on August 27, 1976.
Survivors include one son Donald (Mary) Nealis of Holton and
one granddaughter Rae Jean Auterson of Versailles. She was
preceded in death by her parents, her grandson Randy Nealis,
brothers, Jesse, Woodrow, Wilbur and George Beach and sisters
Mildred Cziek and Mary Adams.
Mrs. Boyd was a 1939 graduate of Holton High School and a
graduate of the Central Beauty School in Indianapolis. She
was a member of the Holton Christian Church. Her working career
included employment at Seagrams and Muscatatuck. She
also was employed as an accountant with Neals Ford in
Osgood and retired from the Ripley County Welfare Office.
She had served as Ripley County Historian, an appointment
she received in 1981.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 19 at 12 p.m.
at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with
Robert McCreary of the Holton Christian Church officiating.
Burial will be in the Holton Cemetery. Visitation will be
Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of funeral services.
Memorials may be given to the Holton Cemetery or to the Ripley
County Historical Society in care of the funeral home.
Grover P. Reese
Grover P. Reese, 76, of Milan, passed away Friday, August
14, 2009 at the Dearborn County Hospital in Lawrenceburg.
He was born February 6, 1933 in Drewsey, Oregon, the son of
Grover and Dorothy (Parvin) Reese. He married Thelma (Gulley)
Reese April 17,1954 and she survives.
Mr. Reese was a truck driver for the Aurora Casket Company
for 20 years and was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church
at Milan. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict
and was a member of the Milan American Legion Post 235, the
Milan F&AM Masonic Lodge #31, a member of the Scottish
Rite Valley of Indianapolis, Murat Shrine of Indianapolis
and the Southeast Indiana Shrine Club, Thrivent for Lutherans
and was a former member of the Milan Volunteer Fire Department.
He was very active in church and legion activities and was
an avid and accomplished woodworker.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years Thelma, son Paul (Pat)
Reese of Milan; two grandchildren Tyler and Kelsey Reese;
sisters Geraldine Pickett and Patricia Adlum both of Eugene,
Oregon.
Funeral services are being held today, Tuesday, August 18
at 10 a.m. at the St. Paul Lutheran Church north of Milan
with Pastor Ron Haseley officiating. Burial will follow in
the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery with military graveside rites
conducted by the Milan American Legion Post #235.

William D. Karst, Jr.
William D. Karst, Jr., 52, of Milan, died Saturday, August
15, 2009. He was born September 5, 1956 in Batesville, the
son of William D. and Delores (Rodmaker) Karst, Sr. He married
Jodi (Winters) Karst who preceded him in death and later married
Theresa (Haugh) Karst who survives.
Survivors include his wife Tracy of Milan, sons Nicholas,
Nathan and Jacob Haugh and daughter Amber Haugh all of Milan,
mother Delores Karst of Milan, brother Dale Karst of Olathea,
Kansas, sister Mary Johnson of Milan, one grandson Hunter
Haugh, two nieces, three nephews and one great nephew.
Mr. Karst was an insurance agent for 20 years with Winters
Insurance Agency in Milan and later was a personal lines manager
for Witkemper Insurance Company in Greensburg. He was a member
of the Hope Baptist Church in Dillsboro, was project manager
for Lamplite Villa Senior Citizens Housing in Milan and was
a member of Hoosier Links Golf Course.
Visitation will be held today, Tuesday, August 18 from 5-8
p.m. at the Hope Baptist Church. Funeral services will be
held Wednesday, August 19 at 11 a.m. at the Hope Baptist Church
in Dillsboro with Pastor Tom Holt officiating. Burial will
follow in the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery north of Milan.
Memorials may be given to the Milan Fire Department.

Cynthia L. Watts
Cynthia L. (Honeycutt) Watts, 84, of Milan, died Thursday,
August 13, 2009 at the Dearborn County Hospital, Lawrenceburg.
She was born January 27, 1925 in Knott County, Kentucky, the
daughter of Baxter and Elizabeth (Calhoun) Honeycutt. She
married Curtis Watts and he preceded her in death.
Survivors include son Tommy (Mary Ellen) Watts of Harrison,
Ohio; daughters, Patricia Collins of Osgood, Shirley (Ron)
Shelton of Versailles, Carolyn Sue (Gary) Rambo of Bonnieville,
Kentucky, Brenda (Randal) Brooks of Versailles; brothers Melvin
and Buford Honeycutt both of Milan and Paul Honeycutt of Sunman;
sisters Ruby Kincer and Shelby Jean Honeycutt both of Milan
and Betty Jane Shields of Indianapolis; seven grandchildren
and 11 great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday, August 17 at the Little
Memory Church with Brothers Robert Haney and Dee Mullins officiating.
Burial was in the church cemetery.

Evelyn G. Race
Evelyn G. Race, 92, of Dillsboro, passed away
Thursday, August 6, 2009 at Ripley Crossing in Milan. She
was born July 5, 1917, in Antioch, Harrison County, KY, the
daughter of Sidney Ecklar and Laura Kearns Ecklar. She married
John Elbert Race on March 28, 1942 in Cynthiana, KY and he
preceded her in death, Dec 4, 1993.
Survivors include two children, John. L.(Judy) Race, of Bear
Branch, and Velma (Basil) Peugh, of Lake Wales, FL; one grandson,
Jeffrey Dickerson, of Milan; two granddaughters, Heather Race,
of Bear Branch, and Lee Ann (Mark) Boggs, of Vevay; two great
granddaughters, Carlee Boggs and Maggie Dickerson; one step
grandchild, Brian Peugh, of Dillsboro, and one step great
grandchild, Cameron Peugh; many nieces, nephews, and many
friends.
Mrs. Race was a member of Dillsboro United Methodist Church
for 52 years and the American Legion Auxiliary Post 292 in
Dillsboro for 60 years. She was a homemaker and worked as
a nurse's aid at Dillsboro Manor for a few years. In 2007,
due to health problems, she moved to Ripley Crossing in Milan.
Funeral services were held Monday, August 10, at Dillsboro
United Methodist Church with burial in the Oakdale Cemetery
in Dillsboro. Memorials may be made to Oakdale Cemetery Trust
Fund. Filter-DeVries Funeral Home in Dillsboro was in charge

Gladys Halcomb Phillips
Gladys Halcomb Phillips, 73, of Lancaster,
passed away Friday, August 7, 2009. Funeral services will
be held Wednesday, August 12 at 1 p.m. at Morgan & Nay
Funeral Centre in Madison with burial in the Dupont Cemetery.
Visitation is today, Tuesday, from 5-8 p.m. and Wednesday
from 11 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home. Memorials

Jean Cross, 89, of Sunman, passed away Sunday,
August 9, 2009. Funeral services will be held Thursday, at

Fred Bodenberg
Fred Bodenberg, of Aspers, PA, born near the Napoleon area,
passed away on August 7, 2009. Funeral services are being
held Tuesday, August 11, at the Lutheran Church in Bendersville,
PA.
Matthew Thomas Meyers
Matthew Thomas Meyers, 19, of Dillsboro, passed
away Friday, August 7, 2009. He was born May 6, 1990 in Madison,
the son of Michael Meyers and Ginger Fryer Meyers.
Survivors include his parents; three sisters, Chelsea, Deanna,
and Megan Meyers; paternal grandmother, Nora Meyers of Dillsboro;
maternal grandparents, Jim and Linda Fryer of Milan; three
aunts, Jane (Duane) Ohlmansiek, Janet (Bob) Negley, and Leisa
Fryer; three uncles, Mark (Lois) Meyers, Jimmy Fryer, and
Adam Fryer; several cousins, and many friends. He was preceded
in death by his paternal grandfather, Murrell Meyers and his
uncle, Jerry Fryer.
Matthew graduated from South Dearborn High School in the class
of 2008, and was currently employed at NAPA Auto Parts as
a delivery driver. He was a 10 year member of 4H, and enjoyed
shooting sports and showing beef cattle and swine.
Memorial services are being held today, Tuesday, at 10 a.m.
at Dillsboro United Methodist Church, with Pastor Richard
Wilkie officiating. Memorials may be given to the Dearborn
County Shooting Sports Program, envelopes will be available
at the service. Arrangements are being handled by Filter-DeVries
Funeral Home in Dillsboro.
Evelyn Joyce Ankenbauer
Evelyn Joyce Ankenbauer, 80, of Cross Plains, passed away
Wednesday, August 5, 2009 at her home. She was born DEC 27,
1928 in Cincinnati, Ohio, the daughter of Theodore Blackburn
and Cecilia Fester Blackburn. On August 6, 1949 she was married
to Howard Ankenbauer and he survives.
Other survivors include three children: Cheryl Ankenbauer-Ruehl,
Mark Ankenbauer, and Lynn (Steven) Bolin, all of Cincinnati;
six grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.
Mrs. Ankenbauer enjoyed living in the country; she loved fishing,
hunting, and camping.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Aug 8, at Filter-DeVries
Funeral Home in Dillsboro. Memorials may be made to the National
Rifle Assoc. or to the Diabetes Foundation. Filter-DeVries

Vincent Miles Smith, 38, of Versailles, MO, formerly of Batesville,
passed away Thursday, August 6, 2009. Funeral services will
be Wednesday, Aug. 12 at 7 p.m. at Meyers Funeral Home in
Batesville with military rites following service. Visitation
will also be Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. Memorials may be given

Joyce Elaine Lucas Hart 58, of Dupont, passed away Friday,
August 7, 2009. Funeral services are being held today, Tuesday,
at 11 a.m. at Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre in Madison with
burial in the Grandview Memorial Gardens in Madison. Visitation
will be held from 9 a.m. until time of services on Tuesday.

Donn A. Snedaker
Donn A. Snedaker, 54, of Versailles, passed away Tuesday,
August 4, 2009, at his home.
A memorial service to celebrate the life of Mr. Snedaker will
be held this Saturday, August 15 at 5:00 p.m. in the Jac-Cen-Del
High School gymnasium with the public invited to attend.
Mr. Snedaker was a 32-year employee of the Jac-Cen-Del School
Corporation where the news of his death was devastating last
Tuesday morning, with Principal Leanna Phillippe canceling
the open house set for this week.
Currently serving as the assistant principal and sixth grade
teacher, Mr. Snedaker had held those positions for the past
seven years. He was also the resource person for the corporation
in special education, served on the school improvement planning
committee, school task force, gift and talented committee,
and the elementary and high school special education core
committee.
Mr. Snedaker also supervised many athletic and academic activities
at the school where he will be greatly missed by colleagues
and students alike.
He was born at Batesville on May 28, 1955, the son of Harold
and Wilma Lehman Snedaker. Survivors include his mother Wilma
Snedaker of Versailles; two sisters: Sarita (Walter) Kamman
of Holton and Barbara (Kenny) Myers of Versailles; one niece,
Courtney (Mike) Hughes of Osgood; three nephews, Brian (BJ)
Myers of Versailles; Wayne Wall of Osgood, and Travis Wall
of Versailles; three great-nephews and eight great-nieces.
He was preceded in death by his father, and his brother Leslie
Snedaker.
Mr. Snedaker was a 1973 graduate of South Ripley High School.
He received his BS degree and Masters degree from Ball
State University in elementary education and elementary administration.
He was a member of the Shelby Christian Church.
Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family
with burial in the Shelby Cemetery. Memorials may be given
to the Jac-Cen-Del Scholarship Fund in care of the Stratton-Karsteter
Funeral Home in Versailles.

Kelly R. Baker, 90, of Aurora, passed away
Thursday, July 30, 2009. Funeral services were held Monday,
Aug. 3, at Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home in Milan. Burial was

Sotera "Carmen" Krieg
Sotera "Carmen" Krieg, 74, of Batesville, passed
away Sunday, August 2, 2009. Visitation will be Wednesday,
August 5, from 5-8 p.m. at Meyers Funeral Home in Batesville
with funeral services on Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. John Catholic
Church in Enochsburg. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Katherine M. Gray Bedford
Katherine M. Gray Bedford, 60, of Versailles, formerly of
Aurora, passed away Saturday, August 1, 2009. Visitation will
be from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 5 at the Rullman Hunger
Funeral Home in Aurora with funeral services Thursday at 11
a.m. also at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Washington
Park East Cemetery in Indianapolis. Memorials may be given

Ralph F. Smith
Ralph F. Smith, 67, of Ingalls, passed away Tuesday, July
28, 2009 at St. Johns Medical Center in Anderson. He
was born near Dillsboro on October 31, 1941 the son of Ralph
A. and Cozzie Baker Smith. He was married to Martha J. Lovins
on March 16, 1960 and she survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Robert (Tina) Smith of London,
Ohio and Rick (Margaret) Smith of Ingalls; son-in-law Randy
Buhrmester of Needham; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren;
two sisters, Grace Snelling of Pendleton and Martha Clark
of Dillsboro. He was preceded in death by his parents, his
daughter- Michelle Buhrmester, grandson- Richard Johns, and
sister- Thelma Dresselhaus.
Mr. Smith was a 10-year veteran of the United States Marines.
He served two tours and five campaigns of duty in Vietnam.
He was a self-employed truck driver for 33 years acting as
owner and operator. He was a life member of the Pendleton
Amvets, a life member of the Marysville, Ohio VFW, a member
of the Noblesville American Legion, the Mt. Carmel Masonic
Lodge in Richwood, Ohio, and the Bear Creek Baptist Church
in Friendship.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 31, at 2 p.m.
at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with
Rev. Sherman Hughes officiating. Visitation will also be Friday
from 11 a.m. until time of services. Burial will be in the
New Marion Cemetery with full military honors.
Norman L. Huelson
Funeral services have been set for Norman L. Huelson, 89 of
Versailles, who passed away Friday, July 31, 2009 at the Kings
Daughters Hospital in Madison.
Known to many in Ripley County and surrounding areas through
his dedication to law enforcement, Huelson was a 31-year veteran
of the Indiana State Police where he began his career at the
Connersville District in 1942.
His recruiting class was trained in the use of horses at the
Culver Military Academy. In 1956, he was assigned to the Versailles
Post and was promoted to corporal. He was promoted to 1st
sergeant in 1958 and lieutenant in 1970, where he became the
first lieutenant of the Versailles Post. He retired from the
state police in 1973.
But, Huelson didnt really retire. He then became the
special investigator for the Ripley County Prosecutors
Office, a position he held for 26 years, retiring in 1999.
Huelson was very active in his community where he was a member
of the Versailles Lions Club and was named Lion of the Year
in 2008. He attended the New Marion Baptist Church, was a
member of the Indiana State Police Pioneers and the Versailles
Masonic Lodge. He was a 1937 graduate of New Marion High School.
Born in Shelby Township near New Marion on November 22, 1919,
Huelson was the son of Fred and Mary Flick Huelson. He was
married to Rebecca Belew on December 16, 1940 and she preceded
him in death on February 7, 1979. He was married to Wanda
Hawley Fields on August 16, 1980 and she survives.
Other survivors include three daughters: Norma Jean (Ron)
Evans of Seymour; Mary Jane (Wayne) Williams of Scottsburg;
and Judith Ann (Chris) Hassfurder of Madison; three stepsons:
Jeff (Jennifer) Fields of Hereford, Arizona; Scott (Denise)
Fields of New Marion; and Todd (Tricia) Fields of Liberty;
four stepdaughters: Jackie (Jerry) Flannery of Batesville;
Robin (Bill) Cannarito and Marsha (Bruce) Spivey, both of
Napoleon; and Jodee Fields and her fiancÈ Bruce Coy
of Versailles; ten grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren,
five great-great grandchildren, 15 step-grandchildren, and
11 step-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held today, August 4 at 11 a.m. at
the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Rev.
Mark Walker officiating. Burial will follow in the Holton
Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to the New Marion Baptist Church, the
Gideons, the Holton Cemetery or the Alzheimers
Association in care of the funeral home.
