Cora "Corky" Mae Stevens
Cora "Corky" Mae Stevens, 88, of Dillsboro, passed away Saturday, October 24, 2009 at the Waters of Dillsboro, Dillsboro Manor. She was born June 29, 1921 in Elizabethtown, Ohio. She married George Harrell Mendel on April 16, 1941 and he preceded her in death on January 13, 1971. In 1977 she married Earl Stevens, who survives.
Other survivors include one daughter, Linda (Larry) Starker, of Aurora; two step daughters, Sharon (Robert) Cutter, of Aurora, and Debbie (Richard) Graver, of Enon, Ohio; three grandchildren, Jason Cutter, Jared Cutter, and Kyle Graver; one great granddaughter, Emma. She was preceded in death by her first husband, George Harrell Mendel, and her sister, Betty.
Mrs. Stevens worked for 35 years at the Elizabethtown Schools as a cook. She moved to Dillsboro in 1977 and was a member of the Dillsboro United Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, Oct. 28, at 10:30 a.m. at Filter-DeVries Funeral Home in Dillsboro. Burial will be in the Elizabethtown Cemetery in Ohio. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. Memorials may be given to Dillsboro United Methodist Church or to Dillsboro Life Squad. Mildred Ida Giblin
Mildren Ida Giblin, 85, of Batesville, passed away Thursday, October 22, 2009, at St. Andrews Health Campus in Batesville. She was born September 12, 1924 in Penntown, the daughter of William and Ida (Richter) Baas. She married Freeman Giblin in Penntown on June 18, 1947 and he survives.
Other survivors include one daughter, Sheryl (Paul) Voss of Batesville; two grandchildren, Amy (Joe) Rippe and Doug Voss; five great grandchildren: Addyson and Aidan Rippe and Kohlson, Lauren and Preston Voss; and one sister-in-law, Roberta Giblin. She was preceded in death by one sister, Elsie Scholl and one brother, Herbert Baas.
Mrs. Giblin was retired from McPherson’s in Sunman. She was a member of the St. John United Church of Christ in Penntown and belonged to the Church Ladies Aide.
Funeral services were held Saturday, October 24, at St. John UCC, Penntown with Rev. Peter Frye officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Meyers Funeral Home in Batesville was in charge of arrangements.

Frederick R. "Fred" Schene
Frederick R. "Fred" Schene, 58, of Oldenburg, passed away Saturday, October 24, 2009. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Oct. 28, at 10 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Oldenburg with burial following in the church cemetery. Warner (Jack) West
Warner (Jack) West, 68, of Osgood passed away Thursday, October 22, 2009 at the Norton Hospital in Louisville. He was born in Cincinnati on January 26, 1941 the son of Warner J. and Lena Ketenbrink West. He was married to Janice Johnston on January 19, 1961 and she survives.
Other survivors include two sons Matt (Stephanie) West of Versailles and Cory West of Osgood; two daughters Julie Harrington of West Alexandria, Ohio and Dawn (Walter) Fugate of Quercus Grove; 16 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Leonard, and his son-in-law David Harrington.
Mr. West was a veteran of the Vietnam War where he served in the Marines as a Lance Corporal. He served with the field artillery battalion and received the Good Conduct Medal and was a rifle marksman. Mr. West worked as a journeyman machinist. He was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Osgood, the Knights of Columbus Council #8487, Versailles Lions Club, and was a volunteer with St. Vincent de Paul. He had served with the Madison Township Volunteer Fire Department in Ohio and with the Aurora Life Squad.
Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, October 26 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Osgood with Father Shawn Whittington officiating. Burial was in St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery at Olean. James "Jim" Taylor Coldiron, 76, of North Vernon, passed away Thursday, October 22, 2009. Amy R. Thomas
Amy R. Thomas, 85, of Versailles, formerly of Osgood, passed away Friday, October 16, 2009 at Ripley Crossing in Milan. She was born at Osgood on August 23, 1924, the daughter of Omer and Mary Boutine Huntington. She was married to Price Thomas and he preceded her in death on August 1, 1990.
Survivors include four grandchildren, three great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son Jerry Hendrix, her brother Clifford Huntington and her sisters Marion Huelson, Maude Bradshaw and Emma Smith.
Mrs. Thomas was a member of the Versailles Church of Christ. She had worked as a bookkeeper in Osgood for several years for Sam Row and also for McCoy Motors. She was also a former deputy for the Ripley County Auditor’s office.
Funeral services were held Monday, October 19 at 1 p.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home with Dale Day officiating. Burial was in the Cliff Hill Cemetery, Versailles.
Memorials may be given to the Versailles Church of Christ, Versailles Baptist Church building fund or the South Ripley Classroom Teachers Scholarship Fund in care of the funeral home.

Floyd Wm. Harlemert
Floyd Wm. Harlemert, 90, of Osgood died Friday, October 16, 2009 at Decatur County Hospital in Greensburg. He was born November 20, 1918 the son of Harry Wm. and Ella A. Bultman Harlemert. He married Erma Margaret Bergman on January 25, 1947 and she preceded him in death in January of 2001.
Survivors include one son, Kenneth F. and wife Janet Lustig Harlemert of Osgood; one brother, Paul Harlemert of Osgood; one sister, Evelyn Hardesty of Osgood; two grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Mr. Harlemert was a member of the St. Peter’s United Church of Christ and was an WWII Army veteran. He was a school bus driver for the Jac-Cen-Del School Corporation for 24 years. He had served as a sub mail carrier for the Osgood Post Office from the late 1960s to the early 1970s.
Funeral services were held Monday, October 19, at 11 a.m. at St. Peter’s United Church of Christ "Finks" Osgood. Military graveside services were conducted by the Osgood American Legion and the Napoleon VFW.

Mildred L. McCoy Starker
Mildred L. McCoy Starker, 98, of Aurora, died Saturday, October 17, 2009 in Dillsboro. She was born Friday, December 30, 1910 in Osgood, the daughter of Charles N. McCoy and Anna Fremdlin McCoy. She was one of four children, Lea, Bob, Bill and Mildred.
Survivors include sons, Gary Starker of Aurora, Larry and wife Linda Starker of Aurora and one brother, Bill McCoy of Seal Beach, CA. Her husband, Gerald Starker, preceded her in death.
She was a member of the Osgood Methodist Church, the Aurora First United Methodist Church, Eastern Star, Phi Beta Psi Sorority and the Retired Teachers Association. Mrs. Starker graduated from Indianapolis Teachers College. She retired from teaching in 1976 after over 32 years of teaching.
Visitation will be held today, Tuesday, October 20 at the Rullman Hunger Funeral Home in Aurora. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 21 at 11 a.m. with Pastor David Patterson officiating. Internment will follow in the Riverview Cemetery.

Wanda L. Wetzler
Wanda L. Wetzler, 80 of Auburn, Georgia, formerly of Moores Hill, passed away Friday, October 16, 2009 at her residence. She was born July 16, 1929 in Milan, the daughter of Charles A. and Sada Rae (Shanks) Martin. She married Charles Loren Wetzler Jr. who preceded her in death.
Survivors include sons Robert L. (Sally) Wetzler of Versailles, Thomas A. (Brenda) Wetzler of Osgood, Douglas J. (Deborah) Wetzler of Auburn, GA.; daughter, Barbara Wetzler of Smyrna, GA.; six grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
She was a retired employee of Seagram’s, a member of the Eastern Star and the Milan Legion Auxiliary.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 21, at 11 a.m. at Sibbett-Moore Funeral Home in Moores Hill with Pastor Tom Holt officiating. Burial will follow in the Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, October 20 at the funeral home. Eastern Star services will be held at 7:30 p.m. and Legion Auxiliary services will be held at 7:45 p.m. at the funeral home.

Donald R. Courter, 75, of Milan, passed away Friday, October 16, 2009 at Ripley Crossing in Milan. Graveside funeral services were held Monday, October 19 at 2 p.m. at the New Craven Cemetery at Milan with Pastor John Jones officiating.

Edward D. Prewitt
Edward D. Prewitt, 77, of Westport, formerly of New Marion, passed away Wednesday, October 7, 2009 at his home. He was born near Perry, Missouri on August 19, 1932 the son of William and Amy Maude Utterback Prewitt. He was married to Shirley Rucker on July 24, 1970 and she survives.
Other survivors include three step-sons Walter (Russanna) Lair of Westport, Robert Lair of North Vernon, and Paul Roane of Seymour; two step-daughters Dessie Lozier of Westport and Tammy (Jeff) Reynolds of Bath, Maine; 19 step-grandchildren, 35 step great-grandchildren, and one step-great-great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, his step-son Billy Lair, and one step-grandson.
Mr. Prewitt was a 1951 graduate of Perry High School. He was a former employee of Tom Tepe Chevrolet, Paul Walston Chevrolet, Conn Organ, and retired from Muscatatuck where he worked in dietary. He was a member of the New Marion Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held Monday, October 12 at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Rev. Karen Reynolds of the New Marion Baptist Church officiating. Burial was in the East Hill Cemetery at Rushville. Memorials may be given to the New Marion Baptist Church or the Hospice of Decatur County in care of the funeral home.

Geneva G. Riley
Geneva G. Riley, 91, of Dillsboro, passed away Friday, October 9, 2009 at Dearborn County Hospital. She was born in Tipton County, on March 13, 1918 the daughter of David Partlow and Margaret Loring Partlow. In March of 1968 she married Joseph Riley, and he survives.
Survivors include one daughter, Nancy O'Brien, of Dillsboro; four step daughters, Patricia Sturn, of Ft. Wayne, Pamela Guest, of Fredericksburg, VA, Gracie Sowry, of Roseville, CA, and Monica Harper, of Columbus, OH; two step sons, Tony Riley, of Roseville, CA, and Albert Riley, of Florence, KY; three grandchildren, nine great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters, three brothers, one step daughter, Tillie Riley, and one son-in-law, Jimmy O'Brien.
Mrs. Riley was employed at Delco Electronics in Production Control for several years. She was a member of Dillsboro Church of Christ.
Funeral services are being held today, Tuesday, at 11 a.m. at Dillsboro Church of Christ, with Pastor Dave Fogle officiating. Memorials may be made to the church. Arrangements are being handled by Filter-DeVries Funeral Home in Dillsboro.


Leslie Jean Gast
Leslie Jean Gast, of Elizabethtown, passed away Friday, October 9, 2009. She was born on October 27, 1951 in Maysville, Kentucky, the daughter of Charles Hubert and Regina Deloris (Sexton) Gast.
Survivors include one brother, Garry Allen (Claire) Gast, of Madison; nephew, Charles "Butch" (Cary) Gast, of Elizabethtown; and niece, Melissa (Kelly) Gast Carf, of Dillsboro; six great-nephews and nieces and one great-great niece; and many friends. Preceding her in death were both parents and brother, Larry.
Miss Gast was baptized in the Lord on June 2, 2009. Leslie was a life-long accomplished singer and business manager.
Services celebrating Leslie’s life are being held at the Stratton - Karsteter Funeral Home today, Tuesday. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. followed by services with Clifton Hartley of Milton Christian Church officiating. Burial will be in the Greendale Cemetery in Osgood.

Melvin Dues Richardson
Melvin Dues Richardson, 80, of Osgood, passed away Sunday, October 4, 2009 at Ripley Crossing in Milan. He was born on November 30, 1928, the son of Roy and Nora Jewell Richardson. He married Mary Anna Barnes on June 10, 1950 and she preceded him in death on January 7, 1999.
Survivors include: daughter: Deborah Richardson Westerman of Osgood; brother: Donald Richardson of Osgood; two grandchildren: Kevin (Rebecca) Westerman of Lexington, KY and Mindy (Westerman) Potts of Osgood; and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, one brother and one sister.
Mr. Richardson did a tour of duty in the Korean War from 1952-1954. He was honorably discharged with a 3 star medal and honors. He retired from Hillenbrand Industries after 47 years of service and was a member of the Cedar Creek Community Church.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Oct. 8, at 10 a.m. at Cedar Creek Community Church in Osgood. Visitation will be Wednesday, from 5-7 p.m. at Neal’s Funeral Home in Osgood. Patti Jo (Smith) Buchanan
Patti Jo (Smith) Buchanan, 50, of Bennington, passed away Thursday, October 1, 2009 at Dearborn County Hospital in Lawrenceburg. She was born August 16, 1959 in Lawrenceburg, the daughter of Russell E. "Johnny" and Kay (Poling) Smith. She married Stephen Meyer of Bennington and he survives.
Other survivors include son, Nicholas (Lora) Buchanan of Canaan; grandson, Brylee Buchanan; her mother, Kay Smith of Fairview; brother, Jeff (Lori) Smith of Oakland City; sister Debra Smith and companion Levi Leverette of Holly Springs, North Carolina; nephew, Payton Smith; one step-nephew and three step-nieces, Kaleb, Heidi, Briana and Whitney; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father, Russell"Johnny" Smith on April 1, 2004; and her grandparents: Roy and Naomi Polin, Russell Harold and Doris Orem Smith.
Mrs. Buchanan was raised in the Fairview Community and was a 1977 graduate of Switzerland County High School. She owned and operated Patti’s Day Care for 20 years and was also a caregiver for her mother.

Norma Lee Hill
Norma Lee Hill, 79, of Versailles passed away Thursday, October 1, 2009 at the Manderley Health Care Center in Osgood. She was born near Correct on October 13, 1929 the daughter of Clarence and Beulah Warfield Underwood. She was married to William D. Hill on June 17, 1950 and he survives.
Other survivors include two daughters, Jennifer Bartlow of Batesville and Christy Grossman of Versailles; six grandchildren Courtney (Brian) Hostetler of Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, Chris Bartlow of Westfield, Jordan Grossman of Casper, Wyoming, Joshua Grossman of Greensburg, and Jared and Jonathan Grossman of Versailles; one brother Robert (Marge) Underwood of Correct. She was preceded in death by her parents and her son-in-law Ed Bartlow.
Mrs. Hill was a 1947 graduate of Versailles High School. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, pie baking, and fishing. She was a member of the Versailles Baptist Church, the Versailles American Legion Auxiliary, the 8 & 40, Delta-Rho Chapter of Tri-Kappa, and the Correct Homemakers. She had been employed with the Southeastern Indiana REMC and had worked in the Ripley County Treasurer’s office.
Funeral services were held Monday, October 5 at the Versailles Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Cantrell officiating. Burial will be in the Cliff Hill Cemetery at Versailles. Elizabeth J. (Betty) Andrews
Elizabeth J. (Betty) Andrews, 79, of Milan, passed away Sunday, October 4, 2009, at Deaconess Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio. She was born March 28, 1930 in Milan, the daughter of Herman E. and Dorothy F. (Sheldon) Stutler. She married Verle W. Andrews on October 29, 1950 and he preceded her in death on March 4, 1995.
Survivors include brother, Herman (Patty) Stutler of Versailles; sister-in-law, Marilee Peters of Milan; special friend, Henry Westerman of Sunman; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband and one brother, Wayne F. Stutler.
Mrs. Andrews was a former employee of US Bank at Moores Hill. She was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church at Milan, Milan Legion Auxiliary, Milan Senior Citizens, and the Help Your Neighbor Club.

Darlene Vankirk
Darlene Vankirk, 72, of Napoleon passed away Thursday, October 1, 2009 at the Kindred Hospital in Greenwood. She was born at Batesville on June 23, 1937 the daughter of John and Eleanor Ollier Kreuzman. She was married to Garold Vankirk on August 11, 1956 and he survives.
Other survivors include two sons Bill (Jane Ann) Vankirk and Bob (Mouse) (Tena) Vankirk both of Napoleon; one daughter Kathy (Brian) Samples of Napoleon; six grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers Bill, John, and Paul Kreuzman.
Mrs. Vankirk was a member of the St. Maurice Catholic Church in Napoleon and was a homemaker.
Funeral services were held Monday, October 5 at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Father Rob Hankee officiating. Burial was in the St. Maurice Cemetery at Napoleon. Joan Haessig
Joan Haessig, 76, of Milan, passed away Friday, October 2, 2009 at Margaret Mary Community Hospital. She was born April 25, 1933 in Winchester, the daughter of Paul and Martha Mosier. She married Bob Haessig on October 30, 1962 and he survives.
Other survivors include son, Steve (Jeannine) Ashcraft of Guilford; three daughters, Shannon Ashcraft (Chuck) Evans of Lawrenceburg, Gretchen (Jim) Berger of Milan and Andrea Haessig of Bellevue, Kentucky; one sister, Marsha Mosier of Rising Sun; six grandchildren: Shaun Ashcraft, Mindy Rielman, Jim Beard, Joe, Josh, and Jessica Berger; and one great granddaughter, Payton Beard.
Mrs. Haessig worked with her husband in Haessig Market and was a homemaker.

Delores Grace House

Delores Grace House, 76 of Osgood, passed away at her residence on Saturday, October 3, 2009. She was born on August 20, 1933 in Kokomo, the daughter of Hayden and Laura Monroe Luckey. She married Raymond House on March 7, 1951 and he preceded her in death on December 12, 2008.
Survivors include sons: Hayden and Wm. House of Hamilton, Ohio and Michael House of Osgood; daughters: Kathy Brewer and Debbie Ogden, both of Osgood, and Deirdre Merz of Holton; brother: Kenneth Luckey of Hace Heights, CA; 19 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and five brothers and three sisters.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Oct. 7, at 10 a.m. at Neal’s Funeral Home in Osgood. Visitation is being held today, Tuesday, from 5-8 p.m. also at the funeral home.
