Residents living in the Jac-Cen-Del
School Corporation district were reminded to attend the 1028 hearing
regarding funding for the proposed remodeling projects at the
high school and elementary. This was announced at the regular
school board meeting held Wednesday, November 18. The meeting
will be held at the high school cafeteria on December 1 and will
begin at 6 p.m.
In his report, high school principal Johnny Budd explained the
testing scores for the junior high students. According to Budd,
changes in the test format could explain the slight difference
in scores for each semester.
The school is required to provide additional remediation for those
students who were below state standards. According to Budd, the
junior high class rotation provided the students with an additional
nine weeks of math and English classes.
Superintendent Bill Narwold read a letter from Lawrenceburg business
owner Rick Webber commending those JCD students and teachers who
participated in the recent Project Lead the Way presentation in
Rising Sun.
The parent/teacher conferences were well attended, according to
Superintendent Narwold. He reported that attendance at the elementary
was about 90% with the high school attendance at about 58%.
In personnel, the resignation of bus driver Andrea Meister was
approved. The recommendation to rescind the leave of absence for
bus driver Linda Starkey was approved.
Also approved were the employment of Renee Simon as corporation
bus driver; the temporary contract for Donald Barber; Kelvin Comer
and Michelle Sebastian as drivers education instructors.
In other business:
William Fogle and Ernie Ruble were commended by Principal
Budd for the organization of the Veterans Day program. Board member
Paul Hardy, who spoke on "Freedom isnt Free,
commended the student body for their attentiveness. You
have a fine school, Hardy told the superintendent.
The board unanimously approved the cost of $385 for the
drivers education course to be offered in the spring semester.
All board members, except Deanna Young, were in attendance. The
next meeting will be held on Wednesday, December 16 beginning
at 6 p.m. at the elementary library.
