Hunter Education was a “big bang” at the Laughery Valley Fish and Game facility near Versailles on Saturday, according to information from local conservation officers.

The hunter education course, which was described as being “very successful”, was presented by Indiana conservation officers and certified volunteer hunter education instructors to a class of mostly young attendees.

“This is an excellent facility to have hunter education courses,” noted ICO Andy Cline. “Being able to have simultaneous use of multiple ranges makes it ideal,” he continued. Those who attended the event received instruction on the range in shotgun, rifle, handgun, archery and muzzleloading.

“We really like getting kids involved,” noted Mike Kissell, who is the vice president of LVFG and also a hunter education instructor. “It is important that they are able to ‘do’ in addition to getting classroom instruction,” he said. The hunter education course is just one of the many youth-based events held at the LVFG.

Laughery Valley Fish and Game has been active in hunter education for decades and has a group of members certified as hunter education instructors. The group holds two courses each year, usually one in the spring and another in late summer.
