The Area
Planning Commission considered a rezone request presented by
the Town of Versailles at the regular meeting on Tuesday, April
6. Larry Eaton, counsel for the town, requested a rezone from
Residential to General Business for 119 North Adams Street,
formerly the Versailles Senior Center.
Eaton explained that property reverted to the town after the
senior center was disbanded. According to Eaton, the purchaser
has intentions to open an exercise unit at the location. Currently,
there is off street parking available, according to Eaton.
The board recommended the town rezone the property to limited
business, which would not require a site plan.
A letter from Pauline Linkmeyer, at 114 North Adams Street,
was submitted and read. According to the letter, Linkmeyer requests
that the board not allow the rezone with regards to increased
foot traffic as well as an increase of vehicles parking on the
street.
The board noted that when the senior center was open, several
events were held as well as operating as a daily meal site,
which increased traffic also.
The motion to send the rezone back to the Town of Versailles
with the Limited Business zone was unanimously approved.
In other business, the board granted primary approval of the
Beiler one-lot agricultural subdivision presented by Levi and
Fannie Beiler at 4925 West County Road 550S in Holton. County
Surveyor, Jeff French, abstained from voting.
All members were in attendance. The next meeting will be held
on Tuesday, May 11 beginning at 7 p.m. in the courthouse annex,
Versailles.
