The desire to get people together for fellowship and riding horses prompted the formation of the Tri-State Saddle Club in October of 2009. According to Saddle Club President Christi Volz, the group caters to all ages and all breeds of horses.

The Tri-State Saddle Club will hold organized rides and camping trips to such places as O’Bannon Woods in May; Mammoth Cave in June; and Midwest Trail Ride in August. Plans are in place for additional rides in November and December as well.

A horse and tack sale will be held this Saturday, April 24 at the Ripley County Fairgrounds in Osgood. The event will begin at 9 a.m.

Booth spaces will be available for anyone interested in selling saddles; show clothes and other horse related items as well as stalls for those selling a horse.

Demonstrations on saddling and harnessing a horse will begin at 11 a.m. and again at 5 p.m. KMSHA examiners will be on hand for class and certification registration.

Other events planned include the Hoosier Open Horse Show in July, which is open to all breeds and features a jumping and driving class. The Turkey Show will be held in October where those competing will receive prizes instead of ribbons.

Tri-State Saddle Club currently has 79 members from Indiana, Ohio and Kentucky. “We cater to all those who want to show, to 4-H members, to those who just like to ride,” Volz told the Osgood Journal.
