Another sports rivalry battle between the Jac-Cen-Del Eagles and the South Ripley Raiders produces no less excitement than has come to be expectd when the two schools meet in competition.
On Friday night, the two faced off on the JCDHS soccer field in a battle that would determine the 2010 ORVC champion.
Tied entering the game, all cards were on the table. Do or die and both knew the consequence all too well going into the game.
The Raiders had won the early season meeting between the two teams in a shootout at SRHS.
Again, with the game tied at nothing to nothing after regulation time had expired the teams would go to a shoot out to determine the winner, and again the Raiders did what was needed to secure the victory.
Although the Raider players out shot the Eagles 3-1 in the shoot out, the score is recorded as a 1-0 win for SR.
The Eagles had the opportunity in shoot out as did the Raiders but the goal was not friendly to JCD largely due to the defensive efforts of senior goalie Matt Brooks.
"Although the Raiders are to face Milan on Monday night, October 4, the game is basically irrevelant to the ORVC title outcome regardless of the game's final score as Milan was forced to concede early season games due to ineligibility of players in some of their games, stated Indian Coach Kevin Walter.

As evidenced in the above photo, one of the main reasons the SR vs JCD ORVC title match went to extended shoot out action to determine a winner, was the excellent and unrelenting defense applied by Eagle defender Duncan Wolff on Raider ace Dylan Groves for the entire game.
Pictured above center, Eagle Cody Gullion kicks the ball away from a charging Raider, Levi Yocum (3), as Eagle senior Dalton Garnett (17) blocks the advance of Raider senior Cody King (1).
