with questions for the Milan School Board will now have to request
to be put on the agenda. The procedure was explained at the
regular board meeting on Monday, October 18.

According to board president Doug Norman, the board meetings
are not a discussion type meeting and advised patrons to contact
the school ahead of time to be put on the agenda so their concerns
can be addressed. The proper process is to contact the
superintendent and if he deems it important enough, then it
will be put on the agenda, Norman said.

Interim Superintendent Steve Gookins noted that most patron
questions and concerns can be answered without board actions.

The explanation was given after patron Becky Hand asked for
details regarding the funding of the summer band program. In
response to her request to have fundraising information heard
at the meeting, Gookins explained that the information can be
                  found in the minutes.

Student Erin Seithel was recognized for her receipt of the National
Merit Scholar award. Also recognized was Brenda Walters as a
finalist for the Indiana Academic Coach of the Year and Aleisha
Freiman for her participation in the Math Matters program.
