Seven honored as 2011 Class of Ripley County Basketball Hall of Fame Inductees at 87th annual Ripley County Boy's Tournament consolation and championship

Gary Franklin, Sports Editor
The Ripley County Basketball Hall of Fame board members met in November of 2010 to consider and review nominations to be considered for the Class of 2011. At that time seven former Ripley County basketball players were selected to join the ranks of the current RCH of F lot.
Between the 87th boys varsity consolation and championship games played at South Ripley High School on Saturday, January 8, Milan Middle School Principal and Ripley County Hall of Fame board member Marty Layden introduced the new inductees to their Ripley County peers at center court.
Six men and one woman were introduced whom included:
Frank Samples (deceased) was a 1961 graduate of New Marion High School where he played as a Panther.
Richard Ebinger is a 1969 graduate of Holton High School where he played his high school career as a Warhorse before playing at Marian College where he also received honorable recognition in his sport.
John Siebert is a 1968 graduate of Jac-Cen-Del High School where he played as an Eagle under Coach Dave Porter.
David Voss is a 1985 graduate of Milan High School where he played as an Indian, (Voss later played a role in the movie "Hoosiers").
Gary Moorman is a 1979 graduate of Batesville High School, where he played as a Bulldog. He further played as a Knight on Marian College basketball and baseball teams.
Wilbur Schneider is a 1967 graduate of Sunman High School, where he played as a Tiger. After graduating, Schneider attended Mississippi State University on a basketball scholarship.
The lone lady of the night to be inducted was Jackie Meinders, a 1983 Milan High School Lady Indian stand-out graduate who played all four HS years on the varsity. She attended Manchester College where she was the starting center all four years and was named All Conference center for both the 1986 and 1987 seasons. Two years ago, Meinders became involved in body building competition and has since placed 1st in the United States and 2nd in the universe competing against contestants from 40 countries around the world.
Randy Young of the Ripley County Historical Society and member of the Ripley County Basketball Hall of Fame, along with current Ripley County Basketball Hall of Fame President, Charles Baurley, presented each inductee with a plaque at center court as they were introduced to their peers.
The annual Induction Banquet is once again set to take place in April, at the Bull Pen in Osgood.
Applications to nominate former Ripley County basketball stars are available from RCBH of F board members. However, supportive data, stats, etc. are very important to the furthering of the process.
