The South Decatur Cougars provided the basketball
competition that the Jac-Cen-Del high school boys teams would
face on JCD's annual homecoming festivities night, Friday,
                    February 4.
                    JCD vs SD Varsity action
The Eagle varsity got out to a 5-0 run off a FG by senior
Eagle Trevor Arnett and an added 3 pointer released by senior
teammate Derek Lunsford. The Eagles connecting on every cylinder
ran the score to 13-2 before the undoing began to unfold.
That undoing, 10 points later, resulted in a mere one point
JCD lead at 13-12, heading for quarter two.
Early in the second quarter, the Cougars struck out for the
lead. They surmounted an 18-13 lead before being curtailed
by a JCD FG. A tie at 18 was grasped following Eagle seniors
Matt Speer's release of a 3 pointer followed by teammate Lunsford's
                    FG.
Back and forth, the lead would change its status, and at the
halftime break, the game score was knotted at 23 apiece.
The Cougars bolted to another five point edge at 28-23 early
in third period action, before seniors Lunsford and Arnett
and underclassman Tyler Smith combined scoring to answer for
another tie, this time at 30. SD managed to grab a 38-34 lead
by the end of the third.
With just two and a half minutes remaining in the fourth,
JCD's senior Arnett scored a FG that brought the game to a
tie at 47, even though the team had trailed by as many as
nine points in the process of getting there at 36-45.
A South Decatur time-out led to senior Eagle Lunsford's connecting
on a pair of FT's to put JCD up for the first time since the
end of period one. Seniors Arnett and Speer followed with
huge FG's to spread the JCD lead to six points at 53-47 with
                    43.8 seconds remaining.
A pair of FT's by Eagle Speer and 4/4 underclassman Jayson
Purdy clutch FT's solidified the JCD win at 59-51 by games
                    end.

The Greensburg Pirates provided the second half of the twin
bill weekend basketball competition that the Jac-Cen-Del high
school boys would face at JCDHS on Saturday night, February
                    5.
                    JCD vs Greensburg Varsity action
The Eagle varsity was not so lucky against the visiting Pirates
as they had been the night before against South Decatur, as
they fell to the Pirates 52-68 by games end.
A mere three point deficit after one period of play at 13-16,
and a single point edge for Greensburg at the halftime horn
at 32-31 made for an interesting start to the contest, but
the hump was too large for the Eagles to overcome by games
                    close.
