The Milan Town Council had the first reading of the golf cart ordinance
at the regular meeting held Monday, April 11.
According to the proposed ordinance, the carts can be operated within
the town limits by those 16-years old or order who hold a valid
driver’s license. They cannot be operated on the sidewalks
or in the town park other than the parking areas.
The carts cannot be used on either SR 101 or SR 350. Motorized carts
may cross the highways at the intersections only and at a right
angle.
The carts will be required to have headlights, taillights, windshield,
break lights, turning signals and seat belts. A slow moving emblem
is required. Annual registration is required through the Milan Police
Department who will issue a decal. The registration fee will be
$30.
Violation of the ordinance will result in the impounding of the
vehicle and a fine of $50 for the first offense, $100 for the second
offense and $300 for the third offense if occurred within one year
of the second offense with registration revoked.
The ordinance will have a second reading at the May meeting. A copy
of the ordinance is available at the town hall.
Town marshal Gary Skaggs reported the police department investigated
a burglary, one report of theft and four domestic calls made. The
department made six traffic arrests and issued 38 traffic warnings.
There were 58 calls for service with 11 assists to other agencies.
The reserve officers donated 94 hours in March.
In other business:
• The board approved a resolution for additional appropriations
from the state for up to $60,000 to be used in the general fund.
• A railroad permit for the storm water project at a cost of
$4,000 was approved.
All board members except Paul Hildebrand were in attendance. The
next meeting will be on Monday, May 9 beginning at 6:30 p.m. at
the town hall. |
