Jac-Cen-Del girls basketball head coach Maurice Meyers is
presented HBCA Basketball Distinguished Service Award
Gary Franklin, Sports Writer
Playing of the Annual Hoosier Basketball Association's
2011 East/West All-Star games on April 17, at Tecumseh High
School, provided the site and time for former Jac-Cen-Del
Lady Eagle basketball coach Maurice Meyers to be presented
the HBCA's Distinguished Service Award.
The award is presented to a member of the basketball community
for distinguished service toward the advancement of the sport.
Coach Meyers was girls' coach at Lawrenceburg and at Jac-Cen-Del
High Schools for over two decades.
Meyers is a member of the Ripley Basketball Hall of Fame.
Upon retirement from the varsity level, he returned to coaching
at the JV and Jr, High, as well as being a varsity assistant
at Milan and JCD.
Recently, Meyers has came out of a second retirement to assist
in the rebuilding of the Milan Lady Indian basketball program
as a volunteer assistant.
Never far from the sport, Meyers has spent his retirement
years scouting for boys and girls HS teams, offering basketball
advice to coaches and occasionally judging track meets.
As was stated, "Basketball has no greater friend in Ripley
County and he is truly deserving of this award."
He and wife Pat reside in Osgood.
Congratulations
Coach Meyers!
