Luella Schwipps
Luella Schwipps, 89, of Moores Hill, and formerly of Milan, passed away Wednesday, April 20, 2011, at Dearborn County Hospital at Lawrenceburg. She was born January 13, 1922, in Milan, the daughter of John Henry and Pearl (Blackmore) Puente. She married Clyde J. Schwipps on May 3, 1941 and he preceded her in death on December 19, 2004.
Luella was a member of the St. Charles Catholic Church, the Milan Legion Auxiliary, the Senior Card Club and was very active with the Milan Food Pantry. "Lou" was an avid reader and loved working puzzles.
Survivors include sons, Donald (Marilyn) Schwipps, Richard (Mary Lou) Schwipps, both of Milan and George Schwipps of Greendale; sisters, Hazel Steinfort of Petersburg, KY, Catherine Eiklor and Billie (Adeline) Lewis, both of Milan; grandchildren, Todd (Julie) Schwipps, Steve Schwipps, Tracy (Bill) Bryant, Ron (Michael) Schwipps, Greg (Alissa) Schwipps, Tim (Rachel) Schwipps, Ben Schwipps, and Andi (Terry) Allison; and 14 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister Dorothy, and brother Edward Puente, and grandson Jeffrey Dean Schwipps.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 23, at Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home, Milan, with Father Frank Eckstein officiating. Burial followed in the Hogan Hill Cemetery, north of Moores Hill. Rosary service was also held Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the Milan Food Pantry in her name. Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home, Milan, was entrusted with arrangements.

Esther Louise Wilhamena Knigga
Esther Louise Wilhamena Knigga, age 90, a lifelong resident of Dillsboro, passed away Friday evening, April 15, 2011 at Dearborn County Hospital. She was born in Bear Branch on July 31, 1920 to William F. Scholle and Emma Selmeyer Scholle.
Esther was baptized and confirmed at Bear Branch Lutheran Church. Her birth mother, Emma Selmeyer Scholle passed away when Esther was three years old, and she was raised by her stepmother, Alma Cutter Scholle.
Esther graduated from Dillsboro High School in 1938, and on September 12, 1942 she married Wilbur Fredrick Knigga at Bear Branch Lutheran Church. Esther and Wilbur moved to Wilbur's family farm on County Rd 550 in Dillsboro, where they both lived their entire lives. Esther was a loving farm wife, and loved gardening, taking care of the many chickens, and helped with the milking of cows. She enjoyed her cats, and loved her home and family.
For many years she and Wilbur were members of St. John's Lutheran Church in Farmers Retreat, where she was involved with Ladies Aid, and LWML. Esther would send care packages to her grandchildren that included many thoughtful, everyday items they would need.
On November 11, 2007 her husband, Wilbur passed away, and Esther continued living at the farm until two weeks ago, when she became a resident of The Waters of Dillsboro due to her health. It was on Friday evening, April 15, 2011 that Esther went home to be with her Lord, and her family gives thanks for her wonderful, long life.
Esther is survived by her son, Kenneth Knigga of Dillsboro; her daughter, Carol Lovins of Milan; two grandchildren, Tom and Becky Lovins and Denise and Anthony Roark; four great grandchildren, Norman and Tanner Roark, and Casey and Cody Lovins. Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son-in-law, William Lovins.
Funeral services for Esther will be today, Tuesday, April 19, at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Farmers Retreat, with Pastor Garry Wickert officiating. She will be laid to rest at St. Johns Lutheran Cemetery at Farmers Retreat. Her family received friends on Monday, April 18, at Filter-DeVries Funeral Home in Dillsboro. Robert G. (Bob) Caseltine
Robert G. (Bob) Caseltine, 70, of Moores Hill, passed away Thursday, April 14, 2011. Funeral services were held Saturday, April 16, at Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home, Milan, with burial in the Union Cemetery at Moores Hill. Memorials may be given to the Moores Hill Emergency Unit. Charles "Bud" Wagner

Charles " Bud" Wagner, age 82, of Osgood, passed away Thursday, April 14, 2011 at his home in Osgood. He was born January 26, 1929 in Osgood, the son of Fred J. and Dorothea Strang Wagner. He married Elizabeth Louise Hopping on August 23, 1952 at the Aurora Presbyterian Church in Aurora and she survives at home.
Other survivors include son, Jeffrey and wife Ronda Wagner of Wichita, KA; daughters, Dorothy L. Goa of Lincoln, NE, and Janet L. Wagner of Osgood; brother, Bill J. Wagner of Osgood; four grandchildren, Ryan and Reagan Wagner, Trey and Turner Goa. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Marie L. Wagner in 1988 and one brother, James Wagner.
Bud graduated from Osgood High School. He had loved playing sports in high school where he was a leading basketball and baseball player. During his senior year in high school, he tried out for the UN of Kentucky Basketball Team. Between high school and college, he also tried out for the St. Louis Baseball Team. Bud played basketball and baseball while attending Hanover College. Just in the most recent years, he was inducted into the Ripley County Hall of Fame.
After graduating from Hanover College, he joined the US Air Force and graduated as a 2nd Lieutenant from Officer Candidate School. He received an honorable discharge as a 1st Lieutenant and joined the family bottling business.
He and his family moved to Muncie where he managed the RC Bottling Company. After selling the business, he opened the Great American Restaurant which he and his wife, Betty, ran until they purchased an HWI Redelman hardware and grocery store from which he retired. After retiring he and his wife returned to Osgood.
Mr. Wagner was a member of the Osgood Masonic Lodge # 603 A & FM. He also was a member of the Osgood United Methodist Church.
Services were held all in one day, Monday, April 18, at the Osgood United Methodist Church. Burial was in the Greendale Cemetery near Osgood. Memorials may be given to the Osgood Methodist Church or the Ripley County Basketball Hall of Fame.
Arrangements were handled by Neal's Funeral Home, Osgood.

Maxine Elizabeth Jarvis
Maxine Elizabeth Jarvis, 95, of Greenwood, passed away Thursday, April 14, 2011 at Regency Place of Greenwood. She was born on November 5, 1915 in Versailles, the daughter of Erby and Willa (Chandler) Horton.
Survivors include son, Bruce Jarvis and nine nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband Glenn Jarvis and her brother Wallace Horton.
Visitation will be at Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Service & Crematory, Greenwood Chapel, 481 W. Main St. Greenwood on Tuesday, from 10-11 a.m. with the funeral starting at 11 a.m. Burial will be at the Tanglewood Cemetery in Versailles. Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Service & Crematory, Greenwood, is handling arrangements.

Jeffery E. Benham
Jeffery E. Benham, 48, of Versailles, passed away Saturday, April 16, 2011, at the University Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was born at Huntington, Indiana on December 16, 1962, the son of James E. and Charleen Callaway Benham. He was married to Jan Lagle on December 16, 1988 and she survives.
Other survivors include his parents, James Benham of Greensburg and Charleen Benham of Indianapolis; two sons, Joseph (Alicia) Benham and Joshua (Brittany) Benham, both of Versailles; two daughters, Tasha Benham and friend John Moe of Versailles and Katie (Josh) Jessee of Osgood; eight grandchildren; two sisters, Candace Woodward of Greensburg and Cassandra (Marc) Lightner of Indianapolis.
Mr. Benham was a self-employed logger and was a member of the Eagles Lodge at Greensburg and the Sons of the American Legion in Greensburg.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 20, at 11 a.m. at the Cedar Creek Community Church near Osgood with Rev. Garland Rudd officiating. Burial will be in the Benham Cemetery. Visitation is being held today, Tuesday, from 5-8 p.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles and from 10 a.m. until time of services Wednesday at the church. Herschel Lee Addison
Herschel Lee Addison, 76, of Dillsboro, passed away Sunday, April 10, 2011 at his home. He was born November 9, 1934 in Heidelberg, KY, the son of Archie and Laura (Moore) Addison. He married Nancy (Elcott) Addison on October 3, 1952, and she survives.
Mr. Addison worked in the maintenance department for 30 years at Heekin Can Company.


Mr. Addison is survived by his wife of 58 years Nancy; sons Ronnie Addison of Dillsboro, Rick (Renata) Addison of Dillsboro, David (Karen) Addison of Metamora; daughters Judith (James) Mosier of Bloomington, Eva (Rick) Dean of Dillsboro, Peggy (Danny) Lacey of Butlerville, Connie (Dennis) Winters of Osgood, Laura Koger of Anderson; sisters Edith (Richard) Lane of Florida, Gladys (Melvin) Burton of Milan; 22 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; one great granddaughter; brothers Archie Addison, Jr., Robert Addison, Albert Addison; and sisters Clare Mae Wells and Alma Cornett.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 13, at 11 a.m. at the Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home, Milan, with Rev. Michael Addison officiating. Burial will follow at the New Craven Cemetery in Milan. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m., today, Tuesday, at the funeral home. David Wayne Meyer

David Wayne Meyer, 54, of Batesville, passed away Thursday, April 7, 2011 at his home. He was born January 8, 1957 in Batesville, the son of the late Glenn and Pearl (Woliung) Meyer.
Survivors include sister, Judy (Paul) Long of Pleasant Plain, OH; brothers, Ronald Glenn (Linda) Meyer of Cross Plains, William (Ella) Meyer of Batesville, Mark (Nancy) Meyer of Batesville, Ricky (Karen) Meyer of Purcellville, VA, and Randy (Linda) Meyer of Milan; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Holly Meyer.
Mr. Meyer had worked at New Horizons since 1977 up until he became ill. He was a member of the St. John United Church of Christ and a 1976 graduate of Jac-Cen-Del High School.
Visitation will be held Thursday, April 14, from 5-8 p.m. at Meyers Funeral Home, Batesville. Funeral services will be Friday, at 11 a.m. at the St. John United Church of Christ with Rev. David Johnston and Rev. Karyl Leslie officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Kenneth Sevier, II
Kenneth Sevier, II, 60 of Osgood, passed away Wednesday, April 6, 2011 in Fairfield, Ohio. He was born March 11, 1951 in Covington, Kentucky, the son of Kenneth and Florence (nee: Maines) Sevier.
He retired as a machinist at Batesville Tool and Die.
Mr. Sevier is survived by his parents; his children, Kenneth (Sabrina) Sevier, III, Rebecca Vanover, Pat Sevier, Brian Sevier, Kelly (Kevin) Borntrager, and Amanda (Adam) Street; 15 grandchildren; one great granddaughter, and two brothers, Bill and Jerry Sevier.
A memorial visitation was conducted on Saturday April 9, at the Versailles Church of Christ, Versailles, with Pastor Earl Thomas, officiating. A reception followed in the church fellowship hall. The Webster Funeral Home, Fairfield is serving the family.

John W. Stute
John W. Stute, 91, of Milan, passed away Saturday, April 9, 2011 at Ripley Crossing at Milan. He was born November 6, 1919, in Dewberry, the son of Walter H. and Ethel (Smith) Stute. He married Jean T. (Ketcham) Stute on December 21, 1939 and she survives.
John was the former owner/operator of W.H. Stute Furniture and Appliances at Milan for many years. He attended the Milan United Methodist Church and was a member of the Milan Volunteer Fire Department for 36 years.
John graduated from Milan High School and went on to serve his country in the Navy during WWII as a radio man on a PBY Catalina. He has received numerous citations of outstanding service for his work with military organizations. He served over 50 continuous years as a member and was a former commander of Milan American Legion Post #235. He volunteered placing flags on Veterans gravesites on Memorial Day, and served as Legion Firing Squad Commander for many years.
John was also a member of the VFW, and a 50 year member of the Milan F&AM Masonic Lodge #31, member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis, the Murat Shrine, and very active in the 40&8.
Mr. Stute is survived by his wife of 71 years, Jean, daughter Joan S. (Jim) Platt of Frankfort, grandchildren Jean Taryn Saylor, Tracy Platt and Molly Dahmen, and great grandson Jacob Dahmen. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son John Edward Stute and a sister, Kathryn Oliger.
Services will be at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 14 at Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home, Milan, with Rev. Tom Holt officiating. Burial will be at a later time in Craven Cemetery at Milan. Calling hours will be 5:30 until 7 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home. Military rites will be performed by Milan Legion Post #235.

Faye Demaree Sloan
Faye Demaree Sloan, 86, of Osgood, passed away Sunday, April 10, 2011 at the Manderley Health Care Center in Osgood. She was born March 18, 1925, in Versailles, the daughter of Charles E. and Irene White Demaree. She married James Sloan and he preceded her in death in 2007.
Survivors include sons, Danny W. Halcomb of Osgood and Charles D. Halcomb of Indianapolis; daughters, Penny J. Schornick of Osgood, Joy A. Cole of Milan, Gayla L. McAlister of Osgood and Amy D. Norman of Osgood; brothers, Jonathan (Jack) Demaree of Versailles and Carl E. Demaree of Osgood; sisters, Fern Strimple of Columbus, Norma Lee Meacham of IL, and Vivian Storie of Madison; 15 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Demaree and James Collinsworth, and one sister, Edna Horton.
Mrs. Sloan had attended the Versailles Baptist Church and was a past member of the Versailles American Legion Auxiliary. Faye loved to do flea marketing. She was a past employee of Crown-Zellerbach of Greensburg.
Services are being held all in one day, Wednesday, April 13, at Neal’s Funeral Home, Osgood, with visitation from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and funeral services immediately following. Eva Everage
Eva Everage, 81, of Covington, Kentucky, formerly of Versailles, passed away Saturday, April 9, 2011 at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Edgewood, Kentucky. She was born in Versailles on April 8, 1930, the daughter of Ralph and Ruth Neill Wilson. She was married to John P. Everage on January 22, 1954 and he preceded her in death on October 27, 2005.
Survivors include three sons John C. (Krista) Everage of Santa Monica, California, Brad (Susan) Everage of Simpsonville, Kentucky, and Chad (Kelly) Everage of Cornelius, North Carolina; three daughters Wendy Neill of Cincinnati, Michelle (Gene) Crawford of Louisville, and Tracey (Mike) Schutte of Cornelius, North Carolina; 12 grandchildren; her twin sister Reva McGowan of Monrovia and her sister Marjorie Pohle of Yalaha, Florida. She was also preceded in death by her parents and her brothers Gene, Wendell, and William Wilson.
Mrs. Everage was a 1948 graduate of Versailles High School and was a member of the Tyson United Methodist Church in Versailles. She and her husband were former owners of the Court House Inn in Versailles.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 14 at 2 p.m. at the Tyson United Methodist Church with Rev. James Byerly officiating. Burial will be in the Cliff Hill Cemetery at Versailles. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5-7 p.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles and from 1 p.m. until time of services Thursday at the church. Robert Cannon
Robert Cannon, 86, of Versailles, passed away Thursday, April 7, 2011 at the Palms of Sebring Assisted Living Center in Se-bring, Florida. He was born near North Vernon on October 11, 1924, the son of Oliver and Clara Cunningham Cannon. He was married to Mary Alice Updike on July 14, 1943 and she preceded him in death on December 21, 2004.
Survivors include one daughter Jeanie (Charles) Benham of Memphis; grandchildren Dusty Benham of Memphis and Michelle Cannon of Indianapolis. He was also preceded in death by his parents, his son Michael, sisters Lillian Stearns and Betty Johnston, and his brother Loring "Bud" Cannon.
Mr. Cannon was a 1942 graduate of North Vernon High School. He served three years with the Coast Guard during WWII as a radio operator aboard an LST that was first to land troops and supplies on Iwo Jima and Okinawa. After the war Bob attended the Valparaiso Technical Institute and was employed with the Indiana State Police Communications Division for 38 years in Indianapolis, Seymour, and Versailles retiring in 1986.
He helped organize the first PTA at Versailles and was district director for the Indiana Congress of Parents and Teachers. Bob also taught electronics at the Southeastern Career Center and assisted with construction and testing of WRBI radio in Batesville and served as their chief operator. He was licensed by the FCC as a First Class Radiotelephone operator, a Second Class radiotelegraph operator, and an Amateur Radio Operator (Ham) and was a member of the Ripley County Repeaters Association.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 14 at 11 a.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Rev. John Scudder officiating. Burial will be in the Vernon Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 10 a.m. until time of services. Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association in care of the funeral home.

Faith A. Cifuentes, 72, of Batesville, passed away Monday, April 11, 2011. Richard T. Ferris
Richard T. Ferris, 80, of Cincinnati, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at the Twin Towers in Cincinnati. He was born on January 11, 1931 in Cincinnati, the son of Oliver William and Grace Audry (Taylor) Ferris. He married the former Glenna M. Kinnett on September 14, 1958 and she preceded him in death on July 26, 2007.
Mr. Ferris was a former employee of the B&O Chessie, CSX Railroad for 41 years. He was a US Air Force Veteran, having served in the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the American Legion in Columbus, Ohio.

Glenn F. Luke
Glenn F. Luke, 84, of Dillsboro, passed away early Thursday morning, March 31, 2011 in Dillsboro. Glenn was born November 5, 1926 in Harmon, Illinois to Fred Luke and Lucille Bollivar Luke. In 1955 he was married to Freda Hallgarth, and they were the parents of two sons, John and Denton.
Glenn and Freda farmed on Farmers Retreat Road in Dillsboro for over 50 years, and Glenn was a true farmer at heart. He totally enjoyed the farm, and all that it gave him.
Mr. Luke served his country in the US Army from 1945-1946. Seven years ago Glenn and Freda moved into Dillsboro.
Surviving is his wife, Freda; two sons, John (Joanne) of Georgetown, KY, and Denton (Pam) of Jacksonville, FL; seven grandchildren, Jonathan, Anna, Alan, Jenna, Desi, Darby, and Shannon; three great grandchildren; one sister, Mary Stevens. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and Harold, and one sister, Helen.
Funeral services for Glenn were held Monday, April 4 at Filter-DeVries Funeral Home in Dillsboro, with Pastor Tom Fehrman officiating. He was laid to rest at Oakdale Cemetery. Rita Vanosdol
Rita Vanosdol, 47, of Madison, passed away Saturday, April 2, 2011 at the Waters of Clifty Falls at Madison. She was born at Milan on March 16, 1964, the daughter of Albert and Rosemary Poling Vanosdol.
Survivors include one sister, Rhonda (Randy) Thieman of Cross Plains; one brother, Rick Vanosdol of Versailles; nephews, Brian (Lisa) Thieman of Versailles and Adam (Lauren) Thieman of El Paso, Texas; nieces, Angie (Ben) Fagan of Laurel, Beth Thieman of Cross Plains, and Ashley Vanosdol of Versailles. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Jeff Vanosdol.
Rita was a 1982 graduate of Madison High School and was a member of the Cross Plains Baptist Church. She was a former employee of US Shoe in Madison and also Grote Industries.
Funeral services will be held Friday, April 8, at 11 a.m. at the Shelby Christian Church at Versailles with Minister Randy Thieman officiating. Burial will be in the Cross Plains Baptist Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church from 10 a.m. until time of services. Memorials may be given to the Cross Plains Baptist Cemetery in care of the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles.


Jarvis R. Castner
Jarvis R. Castner, 80, of Greensburg, formerly of Versailles, passed away Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at Decatur County Memorial Hospital, Greensburg. He was born October 5, 1930 in Ripley County, the son of Grover and Florence May Jarvis Castner.
Mr. Castner had worked as a supervisor for Delaney Wood Heel of Versailles many years ago. In his earlier years he had also enjoyed bowling and doing woodworking.
Survivors include sons, Craig (Ginger) Castner, Gregory (Annette) Rose Castner, Timothy Castner, all of Modesto, CA and Todd (Donna) Castner of Indianapolis; daughter, Marybeth Castner of Versailles; sisters, Mary Millerd and Ada Castner both of Coarsegold, CA; seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Estol and Glenn Castner, and one sister, Arwilda Ellerbrook.
There will be no services. Neal's Funeral Home, Osgood, was in charge of arrangements.

Daniel Yoder, 68, of Madison, passed away Thursday, March 31, 2011. Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 7 at 9:30 a.m. at the Fairhaven Mennonite Church in Goshen, Indiana with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation is being held today, Tuesday, from 5-7 p.m. at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre in Madison and Wednesday, April 6, from 2-4 p.m. and from 6-8 p.m. at the Miller-Stewart Funeral Home in Middlebury, Indiana. Memorials may be given in memory of Daniel to his family in care of the funeral home. Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, Madison is in charge of arrangements.

Woodrow A. "Woody" Bell, 89, of Madison, passed away Thursday, March 31, 2011. Funeral services are being held today, Tuesday, at 1 p.m. at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre in Madison with burial in the Grandview Memorial Gardens near Madison. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home on Tuesday. Memorials may be given to the First Baptist Church Organ Restoration Fund.
