Pictured above Ryan Ooley, left, ROTC Army student from Sellersburg, presented a flag that had flown over Union Township to Sarah Thomas, right, who was surrounded by family and friends. Ooley also laid a wreath at the gravesite of fallen Marine Cpl. John C. Bishop at the Cliff Hill Cemetery on Saturday, May 14. The event was a memorial ride for the March of Dimes in honor of Bishop. The Southern Indiana Pipe and Drums played selections on bagpipes including the Marine theme song and Amazing Grace. They were the group that played for the funeral of Cpl. Bishop last year. Cpl. Bishop was killed in Afghanistan September 8, 2010 and laid to rest beside his father, Gene Bishop, who was a lifelong Versailles resident. Members of the Versailles American Legion attended the event on Saturday remembering the corporal who was the first veteran killed in action since the inception of the post. Not pictured, but also with the group was Steven Alexander, Sellersburg, who held the American flag for the ceremony. He will ship out for active duty with the Army in October.
