Congratulations are in order for South Ripley class of 2010
graduate Lakin Davis who currently attends the University
of St. Francis as a freshman on a golf scholarship.
Her expertise demonstrated through high school warranted attention
from the college level, where she has proven to be an asset
to the University of St. Francis Lady Cougar golf team.
Recently, during the 2011 Heidelberg Spring Classic Golf Invitational,
held near Tiffin, Ohio, Davis played her game to earn the
top spot, capturing the "Medalist" honor.
The Invitational Meet was held at the 72 Par, Mohawk Golf
Course and Country Club, which has a yardage of 5800.
Freshman Davis played to a 12th place tie in first day competition,
followed by an excellent second day score of 75, shot in the
rain, to become Meet Medalist with a total tournament score
of 159. Her score bested the closest competitor of the 36
member tournament field by three strokes.
Davis' effort setting the mark at 75 was her best recorded
to date at the college level, earning her All-Tournament Team
recognition as well. She did however post a 77 last fall.
As a team, the Lady Cougars finished in second place with
a score of 672. First place among the eight colleges represented
was captured by Bethel with a final tally of 651.
St. Francis individual scoring included:
Lakin Davis 84+75=159
Katie Jones 84+86=170
Brittney Kyler 93+83=176
Abby Lauck 84+93=177
Darcy Allman 83+98=181
Congratulations Lakin!
