Lisa L. McConnell
Lisa L. McConnell, 43, of Holton, passed away Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at the St. Vincent Jennings Hospital in North Vernon. She was born at Batesville on December 21, 1967 the daughter of Harley and Mildred Hamilton Roark. She was married to Tom McConnell on October 11, 1989 and he survives.
Other survivors include one son, Matthew (Paula) McConnell of Seymour; one daughter, Ashley McConnell at home; stepson, Thomas J. McConnell of Holton; granddaughters, Savanna and Olivia McConnell; her parents, Harley and Mildred Roark of Holton; father-in-law, Lester McConnell of Holton; mother-in-law, Norma Jean McConnell of Napoleon; sisters, Glynna (Rick) Halcomb of Linefort, Kentucky and Susie (Todd) Starkey of Milan. She was preceded in death by her sister Janet Roark and her grandparents Lou and Arna Roark and Addie and A. W. Hamilton.
Mrs. McConnell had worked in embroidering at the Batesville Casket Company.
Funeral services were held Monday, May 23 at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Tom Holt officiating. Burial was in the Little Memory Cemetery near Sunman. Memorials may be given to the donor’s choice.

James V. Oney
James V. Oney, 59, of Versailles passed away Friday, May 20, 2011 at the King’s Daughters’ Hospital in Madison. He was born at McRoberts in Magoffin County, Kentucky on April 23, 1952, the son of John and Fonsby McCarty Oney. He was married to Sandra Westerman on March 18, 1972 and she survives.
Other survivors include one son, James David (Glenda) Oney of Versailles; one daughter, Jamie (David) Magargel of Greensburg; five grandchildren; two sisters, Dean (Milidean) McCarty of Salyersville, Kentucky and Letitia (Bob) Lee of Madison; four brothers, Ronald Dale Oney of Osgood, Emmett (Pat) Oney of Versailles, David (Pam) Oney of Bloomington, and Raymond (Cathy) Oney of Fairfield, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother J. B. Oney, and his sisters Rebecca Johnson, Eunice Oney, Inez Herd, Joy Oney, and Bernice Dueroski.
Mr. Oney was a truck driver for Elrod Grain and also Demaree Trucking. He was a member of the Cedar Creek Community Church.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 25 at 11 a.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Rev. Garland Rudd officiating. Burial will be in the New Marion Cemetery. Visitation is being held today, Tuesday, from 5-8 p.m. Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society or the New Marion Cemetery in care of the funeral home.

Evelyn L. Libbert
Evelyn L. Libbert, age 90, of Dillsboro, passed away Friday evening, May 20, 2011 at Dearborn County Hospital. She was born October 8, 1920 in Friendship, to George Rosengarn and Amelia Linkmeyer Rosengarn.
She attended grade school through high school in Dillsboro, and graduated from Dillsboro High School on May 2, 1938. Evelyn was employed for some time at the Dillsboro Health Resort and Joseph E. Seagrams. Later she was employed at the G.C. Murphy Co. in Aurora.
She married Joseph Libbert on September 5, 1942. Evelyn was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Dillsboro and a member of its Ladies Aid. She was also a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary and a member of the Dillsboro Senior Citizens.
She enjoyed sewing, reading, and gardening in addition to being a loving mother and grandmother.
Survivors include two sons, William (Jean) Libbert, and Jonathan (Anne) Libbert, both of Greendale; two daughters, Merrilee Stano, of Dillsboro, and Melissa (Tom) Dierking, of Ross, Ohio; ten grandchildren, Scott Libbert, Chris Libbert, Joan Weaver, Beth Daugherty, Jill Nelson, Kate Roepenack, Jaclyn Stano, Elyse Dierking, Neal Dierking, and Karl Dierking; 11 great grandchildren; Josh, Matt, Taylor, Paddrick, Andy, Jacob, Chase, Charlize, Johannah, Teddy, and Kailyn. Evelyn was preceded in death by her two sisters, Dorothy Wilma Rosengarn, and Glenna Moeller and one brother, Wilford Rosengarn.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, May 24, at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Richard Kolaskey officiating. She will be laid to rest at Oakdale Cemetery. Memorials may be given in her memory to the Trinity Lutheran Church General Fund or the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Arrangements are entrusted to Filter-DeVries Funeral Home in Dillsboro.

Katherine Martin
Katherine Martin, age 95, of Aurora, formerly of Dillsboro, passed away Sunday, May 15, 2011 at the Waters of Dillsboro, Ross Manor. Katherine was born March 23, 1916 in Center Square, to Paul Curry and Susie Brett Curry.
On June 11, 1938 she was married to Carl E. Martin, and they resided on a farm on Martin Rd. in Dillsboro for 49 years. Katherine loved to do quilting, and made many quilts, both lap quilts and bed quilts, and pin cushions. She loved flowers, and raised roses and African Violets.
In 1993 they moved to Aurora. Her husband, Carl, passed away on March 4, 1994. Katherine was a long time active member of Hopewell Presbyterian Church in Dillsboro.
She is survived by three daughters, Janet (Jerry) Reamer of Guilford, Linda (George) Farmer of Aurora, and Carolyn Sisson of Denver, Colorado; six grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; two brothers, Clinton Curry of Hanover, and Henry Paul Curry "PeeWee" of Rising Sun. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Carl, and her son-in-law, Don Sisson, and one sister and two brothers.
Funeral services will be held Friday, May 20, at 1:30 p.m. at Hopewell Presbyterian Church in Dillsboro, with Pastor Dana Stout officiating. Friends may meet her family on Thursday, May 19, 2011 from 5-8 p.m. at Hopewell Presbyterian Church. Memorials may be given to the Hopewell Presbyterian Church or to a charity of the donor’s choice. Jeanne Benjamin
Jeanne Benjamin, 58, of Versailles passed away Thursday, May 12, 2011 at the Christ Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio. She was born at Fayetteville, North Carolina on July 29, 1952 the daughter of Oliver and Martha VanderVelde Judd. She was married to Timothy Benjamin on December 31, 1986 and he survives.
Other survivors include her father Oliver Judd of Muskegon, Michigan; daughters Dannielle O’Brien of Gilbert, Arizona and Rhyannon (Larry) Sanders of Waddell, Arizona; stepsons Terry Benjamin and companion Tracy Little of Okeana, Ohio, Scott Benjamin and companion Kim Ackley of Cleves, Ohio, Randy (Kim) Benjamin of Versailles, and Mike (Valerie) Benjamin of Batesville; 11 grandchildren; two brothers Randy Judd of Boulder, Colorado and John (Elizabeth) Judd of Muskegon, Michigan; one sister Susan Fern of Muskegon, Michigan. She was preceded in death by her mother Martha Judd and her brother Jeffery Judd.
Mrs. Benjamin was a 1970 graduate of Muskegon High School and had worked in assembly for Hill-Rom at Batesville. She was a member of the Versailles Church of Christ.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 21 at 1 p.m. at the Versailles Church of Christ with Dale Day officiating. Visitation will be at the church beginning at 12 p.m. Memorials may be given to the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation or the Versailles Church of Christ in care of the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home.

William "Bill" Hance
William E. "Bill" Hance, 58, of Rexville, passed away Sunday, May 15, 2011 at Simon Cancer Center at Indiana University Medical in Indianapolis. He was born July 8, 1952 in Madison, the son of John W. and Velma Jayne Hamilton Hance. He married Marilyn Elliott on August 18, 1972 in Madison and she survives.
Other survivors include three daughters, Michelle Brock (Cliff) of Brownstown, Sherry Hance-Bright (Casey) of Greensburg, and Lindsey Hostetler (Craig) of Rexville; his mother, Jayne Hance of Rexville; grandchildren, Claire and Chase Brock, Payton Bright and William Trigg Hostetler; two sisters, Brenda Hance of Versailles, and Cathy Hance of Brownstown; uncle, David Hamilton (Donna) of Rexville; brothers-in-law, Keith Elliott (Sharon) of Dupont, Philip Elliott (Karen) of Chandler, Arizona; sisters-in-law, Jenny Franks (Bruce) of Dupont, Marlene Durbin (John) of Seattle, Washington; several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his father, John W. Hance, and his in-laws, Maurice and Ruth Elliott.
Bill lived in the Rexville community all of his life and was a 1970 graduate of South Ripley High School. He then attended Ball State University for two years. He had been a sales representative for Monsanto for 15 years and also had farmed all of his life.
Bill was a member of the Ripley County Farm Bureau, American Trap Shooting Organization where he had placed in the State Meet several times, Canaan Masonic Lodge No. 581 F&AM, Coffee Creek Gun Club and the Shelby Township Board. He enjoyed driving around with his dog Junior, spending his time farming, trap shooting and golfing. Bill was a devoted husband, son, dad, and papaw.
Funeral services will be held Friday, May 20, at 11 a.m. at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, Madison, with Brother Earl Hostetler and Todd Franks officiating. Entombment will be at Grandview Memorial Gardens near Madison. Visitation is being held today, Thursday, from 4-8 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. until the time of service, all at the funeral home.

Bobby Arnett
Bobby Arnett Sr. age 71, of Osgood, passed away Sunday, May 15, 2011 at Margaret Mary Community Hospital, Batesville. He was born June 16, 1939 in Vicco, KY the son of Mack and May Baker Arnett. He married Connie Kay Barber on November 29, 1974 and she survives at home.
Other survivors include: sons, Robert Louis and Johnna Arnett of Sandusky, Kevin Lee and Angie Arnett of Sandusky, and Bobby Lee and Michelle Arnett, Jr., of Napoleon; daughters, Katie and Gary Moore of Adams, Kimberly Dawn and Charles Yeary of Dillsboro; brothers, Mack Arnett of Greensburg, Don Arnett of North Vernon, and Joe Johnson of AL; sisters, Marie Mullins, Faye Tatman and Sue England all of Greensburg, and Edith Sturgill of North Vernon; 15 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, James "Bud" and Billy Arnett.
Mr. Arnett was a taxi cab driver in Greensburg many years ago and also was a past employee of the Shell Station in Greensburg. He retired from Delta Faucet, located in Greensburg, where he had worked for 30 years plus.
Bobby and his wife Connie had attended the Bethany Baptist Church in Osgood. He had been an auto mechanic all of his life. After retirement, he continued to work as a mechanic for many friends and relatives.
Funeral services are being held today, Thursday, at 11 a.m. at Neal’s Funeral Home in Osgood with burial in the Greendale Cemetery, Osgood. Memorials may be given to the American Heart Association.

Henry Comer
Henry Comer, Jr., 89, of the Hopewell community near Holton, passed away Monday, May 16, 2011 at the Clark Memorial Hospital in Jeffersonville. He was born in the Otter Creek community near Osgood on August 27, 1921, the son of Henry and Rose Grossman Comer. He was married to Evelyn Dudley on May 18, 1947 and she survives.
Other survivors include one son, Donald (Gloria) Comer of Holton; one daughter, Sharon (Bob) Allen of Charlestown; grandchildren, Kevin (Sherri) Comer, Michele (Danny) Speer and Andy (Sara) Comer, all of the Hopewell community, Chris Allen of Wayne City, IL, and Daniel (Kelsey) Allen of Charlestown; seven great grandchildren; four step-great grandchildren; and five step-great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Thomas A. Comer, and daughter Connie Jane Comer.
Mr. Comer was a 1939 graduate of Osgood High School where he played for the Cowboys 1939 sectional championship team. Henry was an Army Veteran of WWII where he served in the Ardennes, the Rhineland, and Central Europe, taking part in the Battle of the Bulge. He received the EAME Theatre Ribbon with three bronze stars, the American Theatre Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal, and the WWII Victory Medal.
Mr. Comer was a farmer and had commercially raised Duroc hogs for many years and had sold his hogs in 17 states and three foreign countries. He was past president of the Indiana Duroc Association and helped form the Ripley-Dearborn Pork Producers Association. Henry was also a member of the Hopewell Baptist Church.
Funeral services are being held today, Thursday, at 11 a.m. at the Hopewell Baptist Church with Rev. David Shivers officiating. Burial will be in the Holton Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of services at the church on Thursday. Larry G. Nolte
Larry G. Nolte, 64, of Holton, passed away Wednesday, May 4, 2011 at St. Francis Hospital in Beech Grove. He was born in Indianapolis on August 7, 1946 the son of Joseph and Jean Drew Nolte. He was married to Anita Hoban on October 28, 1994 and she survives.
Other survivors include his father Joseph Nolte of Lawrenceburg; one son Dennis Wells of Greensburg; three daughters Natalie Nolte of Newport, Kentucky, Audrey (Adam) Harris of McLean, Virginia, and Jennifer (Chad) Ford of Georgetown, Texas; grandchildren Lane Wells, Aubrey and Remington Ford, A.J. and Anderson Harris, and Temperance Peters; three sisters Shirley Blair and Dee (Marvin) Wallace both of Greensburg and Sandy (Karl) Siebe of Indianapolis. He was preceded in death by his mother.
Larry was a 1964 graduate of Colerain High School in Cincinnati and received his BS degree in US History and an Associate Degree in transportation management from the University of Cincinnati. He was a former fleet manager for Pepsi of Cincinnati and had worked as a jailer for the Ripley County Sheriff’s Department.
Larry was a Marine veteran of the Vietnam War where he served two tours with the Force Recon First Marine Division, rising to the rank of Sergeant. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Meritorious Mast, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal.
Funeral services were held Monday, May 9 at the Hopewell Baptist Church with Rev. David Shivers officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery with military graveside rites by the Versailles American Legion of which he was a member. Visitation was held Sunday at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles. Memorials may be given to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society or the Hopewell Baptist Church in care of the funeral home.

Rabbi Charlie Benham
Rabbi Charlie Benham, 63, of Memphis, passed away Wednesday, May 4, 2011, at Floyd Memorial Hospital in New Albany.
A native of Ripley County, he was born in Milan on November 3, 1947, the son of John Robert and Marie (Hoyer) Benham who are both deceased.
On November 29, 1969, he married Jeanie (Cannon) Benham in Napoleon, and she survives in Memphis. Other survivors include son, Dusty (fiancé Sarah Laymon) Benham of Memphis; one brother, Lee Howard (wife Jackie) Benham of Scottsburg; one sister, Marilyn (husband Donnie) Chastain of Bullitt County, Kentucky.
Charlie was a former employee of Indiana Kentucky Electric in Madison until he received his calling to follow the Lord in Ministry. Rabbi Charlie received his associate’s degree in ministry from Louisville Bible College and lived to serve the Lord, he spent all his time and effort with the Burning Bush Ministries where he was a Messianic Rabbi. He enjoyed making staff’s and donating them to people all around the world.

John Cecil Thompson
John Cecil Thompson, 92, of Cross Plains and formerly of Allensville, passed away Friday, May 6, 2011, at the Hospice of Cincinnati, Blue Ash, Ohio. He was born April 4, 1919 in Little York, Indiana, the son of John C. and Virginia (Zaring) Thompson. He married Dorthey Kummings of Lafayette on October 5, 1942 in Louisville, KY, and she preceded him in death on October 10, 1995.
John was also preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Alta Fisher and Lota Jane Nichols.
He is survived by sons, Lee Thompson (Marla) of Holton, Fred Thompson (Mary Sue) of Benham, and Jim Thompson (Dorothy) of Milford, OH; daughter, Becky Freeman of Lancaster, CA; 11 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren.
Mr. Thompson was a 1937 graduate of Little York High School and a 1941 graduate of Purdue University’s School of Agriculture. He served during WWII as a US Army artillery officer with the 11th Air Borne Division in the Philippines and Japan.
John later worked for and retired from the (USDA) Farmers Home Administration, now called Rural Development, where he was instrumental in helping to bring city water to rural communities throughout Southeastern Indiana. He was a member of the American Legion Post #173 of Versailles and a good Democrat.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, May 14, at 11 a.m. at the Vevay Cemetery with Rev. Howard Bell officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the honor guard of the Versailles American Legion Post #173 at the Vevay Cemetery. The family requests memorials in memory of John to the American Cancer Society, contribution cards are available at the funeral home.

Mildred Gault
Mildred Gault, 91, of Milan, passed away Saturday, May 7, 2011 at the Dearborn County Hospital in Lawrenceburg. She was born near Dillsboro on August 21, 1919, the daughter of William and Mabel Lotshaw Meyer. She was married to Harold Gault and he preceded her in death on August 15, 1976.
Survivors include two sons, Gary (Karen) Gault of Cleves, Ohio, and David (Vanessa) Gault of Moores Hill; five grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Ernest and Leonard Meyer.
Mrs. Gault was a 1936 graduate of Versailles High School and was a homemaker. Mildred was a member of the Washington Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held Friday, May 13, at 10 a.m. at the Washington Baptist Church with Rev. Bruce Fitzsimmons officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, from 5-8 p.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles and from 9 a.m. until time of services on Friday at the church. Lura Lykins
Lura Lykins, 90, of Osgood passed away Friday, April 29, 2011 at the Manderley Health Care Center in Osgood. She was born at Salyersville in Magoffin County, Kentucky on April 28, 1921, the daughter of James and Carrie Ann Taulbee Wages. She was married to Willard Lykins on November 29, 1941 and he preceded her in death on May 22, 1996.
Survivors include one son Willard A. (Janet) Lykins of Osgood; four grandsons; two great-grandchildren; one sister Marie Gregory of Osgood. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Floyd Wages, and sisters Dee Keeton, Lilly Wages, and Telia Brown.
Mrs. Lykins was a 1939 graduate of Hazel Green High School in Hazel Green, Kentucky and was a member of the Cedar Creek Community Church. She was a homemaker and had done evangelistic work with her husband for several years.
Funeral services were held Monday, May 2 at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Rev. Garland Rudd officiating. Burial was in the Grandview Memorial Garden near Madison. Memorials may be given to the Kidney Foundation or the Cedar Creek Church in care of the funeral home.

Benjamin F. "Ben" Greenwood
Benjamin F. "Ben" Greenwood, 79, of Greendale, passed away Wednesday, April 27, 2011. He was born Saturday, March 26, 1932, the son of the late Benjamin and Ella (Oliver) Greenwood.
He is survived by his loving wife, Lila Greenwood; three sons, Dan (Paula) Greenwood, Mike (Sandy) Greenwood, and Rich (Karen) Greenwood; sister, Rosella Keck; and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Paul, Stanley and Gerald.
Mr. Greenwood served his country in the US Air Force. He was a member of the Grace Church of the Valley and had worked as a welder for Seagrams Distillery.
Funeral services were held at the Grace Church of the Valley on Saturday, April 30 with Pastor Roger Webb officiating. Burial was in the Greendale Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Grace Church of the Valley. Fitch-Denney Funeral Home, Lawrenceburg, was in charge of arrangements.

Virginia Marie Tyler Sierp
Virginia Marie Tyler Sierp, 89, of Bedford, KY, formerly of Madison, passed away Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at her daughters home near Bedford, KY. She was born December 14, 1921, in Jennings County, the daughter of Edward Ephriam and Mary Edith Demaree Tyler.
Survivors include two sons, Ed Sierp (Darlene) of Edinburgh, and Marion Sierp of Rutledge, TN; three daughters, Mary Ann Harmon of Bedford, KY, Cynthia Nesbitt (Bill) of Connersville, and Cecilia Barry (Tom) of Rising Sun; four sisters, Edna Whittaker of Indianapolis, Opal Pulis of Indianapolis, Marjorie Hauser of Trafalgar, and Martha Kvale (Harold) of Dennison, TX; 17 grandchildren; 51 great grandchildren; 14 great great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Edward Russell Sierp who died on December 13, 1993; sons-in-law, Ernie Farrell and Norman Harmon; and two great grandchildren, Brock Sierp and Justin Sierp.
Virginia was raised in Rush County and was a 1939 graduate of Rushville High School in Rushville. She was united in marriage to Edward Russell Sierp on March 31, 1940 in Greensburg. She moved to Madison in 1952 and was a member of the Westfork Baptist Church.
Virginia worked as a Final Inspector at Reliance Electric for 25 years and also enjoyed being a homemaker. She liked crocheting, gardening, sewing, 4-H, Sunday school, being a counselor and tutoring children in reading. She had a large collection of Fenton Hobnail Glassware. She moved to Edinburgh in 2000 and resided with her son and attended the Mount Auburn Christian Church. She moved in 2007 to live with her daughter near Bedford, KY, and attended the Hopewell Methodist Church in Carrollton, KY.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 30, at 2 p.m. at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, Madison, with Pastor Troy Hedges officiating. Burial was in the Grandview Memorial Gardens near Madison. Memorials may be given in memory of Virginia to the West Fork Baptist Church or Hospice of Louisville, contribution cards are available at the funeral home. Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, Madison, was in charge of arrangements.
